Chapter 108: Chapter 108: The Wonderful Dream Is Not a Dream

Xiao Heqing didn’t expect him to agree so quickly. She swiftly sat up. ”Really?”

Lin Zhengran answered her matter-of-factly. ”Of course. Since I said I’d grant you a wish, I’ll naturally keep my word. As long as it isn’t too outrageous, I’ll agree to whatever you say.”

”Ah? You’ll agree to anything...”

Although she was very happy, Xiao Heqing inexplicably felt like she had been shortchanged. She couldn’t help but feel that if she had asked for something a step further just now, he might have agreed to that too.

”Can I change my wish?” she asked.

”Of course not. How can you take back a wish? You only get one chance,” Lin Zhengran flatly refused.

Seeing her looking so flustered, wronged, and shortchanged, Lin Zhengran patted his own shoulder as a form of compensation.

At first, Xiao Heqing didn’t understand. ”What is it?”

But she quickly realized what he meant, her face flushing and her heart pounding.

Lin Zhengran picked up his book again. ”Lean on me and rest for a bit. Otherwise, sitting up like that, I don’t think you’d get sleepy even if the whole night passed. Besides, even though you didn’t get hurt today, you must be exhausted after playing matches all afternoon, right? You won’t recover if you just sit there. Leaning on me will be a bit more comfortable.”

Xiao Heqing pursed her lips. It felt as if everything happening tonight wasn’t real.

”He’s being so good to me today...” she thought.

Even though it felt like a dream, she hurried to scoot her bottom closer to Lin Zhengran. Whether it was a dream or reality, she just wanted to snuggle up to him. However, she still asked one more time to be sure, ”Can I really... lean on you?”

”Yeah, go ahead.”

Her small hands gripped the fabric of Lin Zhengran’s pajama sleeve. Slowly and tentatively, she shifted the weight of her upper body onto his shoulder. With her hair down, Xiao Heqing looked exceptionally relaxed.

Feeling Lin Zhengran’s sturdy arm and breathing in his scent, an indescribable happiness bloomed on her face. It was as if colorful bubbles were floating all around her.

”Lin Zhengran smells so nice... Oh right, Wenwen told me to ask him if I smell nice... I haven’t asked yet... They say two people who like each other can smell a specific fragrance on one another. I can smell his, but I wonder if he can smell mine,” she wondered to herself.

To Lin Zhengran’s surprise, Xiao Heqing fell asleep very quickly after leaning on his shoulder. It didn’t even take two minutes for her breathing to even out as she fell into a deep slumber.

He stared at her sleeping profile. The little girl had long eyelashes. Even though they spent all their time together—and no matter how pretty someone was, one tended to overlook it after seeing them so often—Lin Zhengran could still occasionally notice the sheer sweetness in He Qing’s features. It was a sweetness that many beautiful girls simply couldn’t compare to.

The little girl truly was exhausted today. She hadn’t been able to sleep earlier just because her mind was preoccupied with all sorts of messy thoughts. Once she finally relaxed, she drifted off to dreamland in an instant.

Lin Zhengran carefully got out of bed. He scooped He Qing up in a bridal carry, brought her into the bedroom, and tucked her in under the blanket.

A blissful expression lingered on Xiao Heqing’s face as she murmured in her sleep, ”Lin Zhengran, we’ll be together for the rest of our lives, right...”

Lin Zhengran patted her head. ”Of course.” Then, he closed the door and left the room.

The next morning, the sun shone brightly.

Xiao Heqing woke up comfortably in bed. Upon seeing her surroundings, she realized she was in Lin Zhengran’s house. Her memories of the previous night were still fresh. She abruptly sat up. ”No way! Was everything last night really a dream?! It can’t be!!”

Lin Zhengran knocked on the door. ”What are you making a fuss about? Hurry up, change your clothes, get up, and come eat.”

Hearing Lin Zhengran’s voice, Xiao Heqing hurriedly called out, ”Lin Zhengran! Don’t go! I have something to ask you!”

Lin Zhengran opened the door, long accustomed to her airheaded nature. ”What is it?”

Wearing her pajamas, Xiao Heqing blushed and stammered, ”I mean, last night... did I go... did I go looking for you...”

Lin Zhengran stared at her with a deadpan expression. Xiao Heqing stared blankly back at him.

”I carried you over here after you fell asleep last night,” Lin Zhengran said. ”It wasn’t a dream like you were just yelling about. Now get up.”

Xiao Heqing was instantly overwhelmed with happiness, too overjoyed to speak. A radiant joy bloomed on her face as she offered him a sweet smile. ”Mhm! I’m getting up right now!”
