I'm Pretending to Cultivate in Kindergarten

Chapter 72: Chapter 72: The Little Fox Who Never Tires of Making Trouble

Three more days passed. There were now seven days until the New Year.

Early this morning, Han Wenwen, her long hair draped over her shoulders and wearing strawberry pajamas, sat at her computer and launched a competitive game.

There was a knock at the door.

A look of pleasant surprise appeared on Han Wenwen’s face. ”Classmate Lin Zhengran?”

”Yeah, it’s me.”

”I’m in a game. Let yourself in, Classmate Lin Zhengran.”

Lin Zhengran took the spare key out of his pocket. After opening the door, he saw the Little Fox sitting in her chair. ”You’re up so early today?”

Han Wenwen clicked her mouse. ”Gotta make a living. I’m using the winter break to play more and build up a backlog of footage.”

Lin Zhengran put the breakfast aside, grabbed a chair, and sat down next to Han Wenwen.

Han Wenwen’s screen recording software was on, but it wasn’t capturing audio. She smiled and asked, ”What did you buy for breakfast, Classmate Lin Zhengran?”

”Steamed buns.”

”I’ll transfer you the money later. What kind?”

Instead of answering, Lin Zhengran lightly tapped the Little Fox on the head. ”You missed a minion. Stop talking and play properly.”

Han Wenwen pouted.

’For some reason, whether it was He Qing or Jiang Xueli, neither of them had a scent as rich as Han Wenwen’s, even though they both smelled nice. When they first met, Lin Zhengran had assumed it was her shampoo or body wash, but he later discovered she used the exact same brand as him. To this day, he still had no idea where that wonderful fragrance came from.’

”First blood!” As her character recalled to base, Han Wenwen happily leaned over and bumped Lin Zhengran with her shoulder. ”Aren’t you going to praise me, Classmate Lin Zhengran?”

Lin Zhengran said with a deadpan expression, ”Amazing. Keep going.”

Those foxy eyes glanced at him, and she changed her form of address. ”Brother Zhengran can be so tsundere sometimes~ He doesn’t know how to give a proper compliment~”

Lin Zhengran tapped her on the head again.

The Little Fox played along with a little ”Awoo!”

After the game, Lin Zhengran took Han Wenwen’s phone and checked her video platform’s analytics. For several days in a row, she had earned over forty yuan a day.

”The New Year’s traffic is no joke. It’d be great if I could make this much money with my usual update schedule during the school year.”

Han Wenwen leaned closer to Lin Zhengran, placing a hand on his leg for support. Their faces were only half a fist’s distance apart.

”But I only earn this much during winter break. Normally, I only make about twenty yuan. After paying for rent and other miscellaneous things, there’s not much left. I’m still very content with it, though.”

”Don’t worry. I’ll play more games with you this winter break. We can post a few New Year’s videos, and if we catch this wave of high traffic, it might be enough to cover your rent and living expenses for half a year.”

Han Wenwen’s eyes, now inches away, stared at the side of Lin Zhengran’s face as he spoke. She suddenly remembered the guide she’d given Qingqing on how to win over Lin Zhengran.

’I wonder, are the tactics I wrote down really useless against Lin Zhengran?’

Slowly, she blew a puff of fragrant air into Lin Zhengran’s ear.

This made Lin Zhengran, who was in the middle of talking, choke on his words. He turned to look at her, speechless, and asked, ”What are you doing? Are you crazy?”

Han Wenwen bit her lower lip and retorted shyly in a low voice, ”Why are you scolding me? I read in a novel that when a girl blows in a boy’s ear, his heart rate speeds up. Does yours, Brother Zhengran?”

She reached out to touch the spot over Lin Zhengran’s heart, but he grabbed her arm.

Another tap on her head. ”Behave.”

Han Wenwen unhappily clutched her head with both hands. In a move that seemed both intentional and unintentional, she rested her forehead on his shoulder, peeking up at him.

”Always hitting me, so violent. But even if Brother Zhengran is mean to me all day, I won’t get mad. I’ll just worry if your hand hurts from hitting me~”

Lin Zhengran really couldn’t be bothered to trade barbs with this girl. He pushed her head off his shoulder. ”On my way here, I saw some other apartments already have their Spring Festival couplets up. Are you putting any up this year?”

Hearing this, the Little Fox pulled her chair closer to him again and said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world, ”Of course! Why wouldn’t I? I want to.”

”Didn’t you say you were out of money?”

She retorted, looking at him from inches away, ”You can always squeeze some out. Especially since this is my first New Year after moving out on my own. How could I not prepare for it properly?”

Not wanting to be so close to her, Lin Zhengran stood up and headed for the bed to read his book. ”In that case, once you finish the voiceover for your latest video, I’ll go with you to the market to buy some couplets for the door. They’re not expensive, actually. A pair of vertical scrolls and a horizontal one will do.”

Han Wenwen smiled and nodded. Then, out of the blue, she turned to her computer and said suddenly:

”Having Classmate Lin Zhengran here with me this year... I’m really happy.”

Lin Zhengran’s eyes glanced up from his book, watching her as she started to record the audio for her video. He didn’t say anything.

After she finished the voiceover, Lin Zhengran checked it over one more time. Seeing no issues, he uploaded it to the video platform.

Soon, some of her loyal fans started posting comments.

[Grandpa, the creator you subscribe to has finally updated!]

[Finally a new video! Posting once in over a week... at this rate, you’ll never get popular.]

[Love your stuff, post more! I just love listening to the creator’s voice. It’s so rare to see a girl who’s this good at gaming.]

’Aside from the gaming skills I taught her,’ Lin Zhengran thought, ’this fox really does have a natural advantage in this area.’

A short while later, Han Wenwen finished her breakfast with Lin Zhengran. She picked a few items of clothing from a trunk and headed for the bathroom, reminding Lin Zhengran, ”Brother Zhengran, don’t you dare peek while I’m changing~ Even though I’ll be wearing underwear.”

Lin Zhengran kept his eyes on his book. ”Can’t you just lock the door?”

”But I don’t like locking the door.”

”That’s fine too. I won’t peek anyway. I’m not interested.”

Han Wenwen blinked and smiled. ”Oh really? In that case, I’ll just change here. It’s such a hassle to go to the bathroom.”

”Suit yourself.”

Han Wenwen said ”Oh,” and actually seemed to start taking off her pajamas. As she did, she even made some faint sounds of exertion.

”My pajamas seem to be stuck~ Brother Zhengran, come help me~”

A vein throbbed on Lin Zhengran’s forehead. He grabbed a pillow and threw it at the annoying fox. ”Stop acting! Those pajamas are so loose, how could they get stuck? Go change in the bathroom!”

Han Wenwen caught the pillow with lightning speed. Biting her lip, her face flushed, she let out a little giggle and said softly, ”Looks like Brother Zhengran isn’t completely uninterested in girls after all. Qingqing and Jiang Xueli just haven’t found your weak spot yet.”

He gave her a disdainful look. ”No. You’re just distracting me from my book.”

Han Wenwen gave him a meaningful smile, her eyes seeming to say, ’Brother Zhengran is getting shy.’

With that, she ignored Lin Zhengran’s murderous glare and fled to the bathroom, though she quickly poked her head out to add a reminder:

”Actually, no matter how bold I am, I’d never change clothes right in front of Classmate Lin Zhengran. I was just teasing Brother Zhengran, that’s all. I’m a girl, after all. I get shy too.”

Lin Zhengran had to hand it to her. He was also very curious—when did she start calling him ”Brother Zhengran”?

’He had a feeling it had started during the last break. This fox had certainly been using it more and more these past few days. But Lin Zhengran knew he couldn’t tell her to stop. Otherwise, this rebellious fox would surely say, ”Brother Zhengran doesn’t want me to call you Brother Zhengran? Fine, Brother Zhengran. No problem, Brother Zhengran. I just won’t call you Brother Zhengran anymore, Brother Zhengran.” She would absolutely do that...’

After changing, the Little Fox emerged wearing a skirt and a sweater jacket.

’Even in winter, this fox seems to care a lot about her appearance. Most girls her age are like that.’

Walking down the street, Han Wenwen held out her small, slightly red-from-the-cold hands to look at the recent comments on her phone. She smiled and said, ”You know, Brother Zhengran? All these people praising me don’t make my heart flutter as much as a single word of praise from you would~”

Lin Zhengran walked beside her. ”Do you have fun saying such pointless things every day?”

Han Wenwen glanced at Lin Zhengran and pursed her lips. ”How is it pointless? If Brother Zhengran doesn’t like to talk, then I have to be the one to start conversations. I just want to talk with Brother Zhengran a little more, that’s all.”
