I'm Pretending to Cultivate in Kindergarten

Chapter 58: Chapter 58: The Bestie’s Confession Scene

Early Sunday morning, Jiang Xueli went to the door of the practice room at the Child Star Studio.

Although the studio’s singing equipment was reasonably professional, Jiang Xueli rarely came here to sing. She usually practiced at home or had Lin Zhengran teach her.

But even though she had only been here a few times, she had instantly hit it off with a little blonde girl named Liu Xinyue, who also wore her hair in twin pigtails.

Liu Xinyue was mixed-race, and her appearance was very different from others. Her eyes had a hint of blue, and she was a little older than Jiang Xueli.

But from the moment they first met and their eyes locked, they knew they were kindred spirits.

When she arrived at the practice room to meet her, she found that, just as she’d expected, the other girl was already waiting. The little blonde girl was standing by the door in a floral dress. Unlike Jiang Xueli’s low ponytail, hers was a high ponytail.

”Lili, you’re here?” Liu Xinyue said, hurrying over when she saw her.

Jiang Xueli met up with her. ”Yeah. Xinyue, why did you suddenly hang up last night?”

Liu Xinyue said shyly, ”The older boy I like came over to my house yesterday, so I had to hang up. Come on, I’ll tell you all about it. I need your help today, or there’s no way I can do this on my own.”

Jiang Xueli agreed, and the two left the practice room, heading toward the mall.

As they walked, Liu Xinyue started explaining the whole story.

The girl named Liu Xinyue said:

”I’m going back abroad next week, so before I leave, I want to confess to the college guy who lives next door. If he says yes, I’ll come back in half a year. But if he says no... I probably won’t come back at all.”

Jiang Xueli already knew she was going abroad.

Liu Xinyue said, her voice fraught with anxiety, ”But I’m so nervous! Because that guy has a childhood sweetheart who’s always liked him. Her name is He Qingqing!”

’He Qingqing...’ Jiang Xueli felt a strange sense of déjà vu.

Liu Xinyue continued as they walked:

”I actually didn’t know he had a childhood sweetheart before. I only found out after I started middle school. The girl is really cute because she has a lot of freckles, and she’s always liked him. Recently, I discovered that she and her best friend are plotting something big. I suspect she’s planning to confess to him!”

Jiang Xueli blinked. She suddenly remembered that He Qing and Han Wenwen had also been acting a little strange lately, as if they were plotting something.

Liu Xinyue continued her description:

”I think he likes her a little bit, too. He even makes time to hang out with her sometimes! So if she really confesses, he might actually say yes, and then I won’t have a chance!”

She looked down, conflicted. ”I kept hesitating before. I know I have a proud and standoffish personality, so I never dare to say things directly.

But ever since I heard you talk about how you took the initiative and asked the boy you like to the movies, I feel like I should be more proactive too! You only get results if you take the initiative!”

Jiang Xueli had only briefly mentioned her sole glorious victory because she saw how frustrated Liu Xinyue was about her love life and wanted to give her some confidence. She never expected her friend to treat it as a shining example ever since.

Jiang Xueli felt a little awkward. ”I get it, Xinyue. I support you unconditionally! So, when are you planning to confess?”

”Tonight!”

”Today? Why so soon?”

”Mhm, today is his birthday. That’s why I wanted to ask for your help. To go with me to buy some flowers, candles, and balloons to set everything up. And then tonight, you can witness that even a proud girl like me can find happiness! Witness this historic moment!”

She was fired up.

Jiang Xueli nodded without hesitation. This was her first time helping someone set up a confession scene. ”Okay, let’s go right now!”

The two best friends went to the mall and bought a huge pile of things for the confession. Along the way, Liu Xinyue kept saying that she had never done anything like this before.

Because of her proud personality, she had let opportunities slip by to He Qingqing so many times.

Jiang Xueli felt that strange sense of déjà vu again...

Carrying the things they’d bought, the two picked a spot, finally settling on a flowerbed in a deserted section of a park. They arranged everything in an orderly fashion.

They blew up the balloons, tied them with string, and weighed the strings down with rocks. Then they arranged the candles into the shape of a heart.

In the middle, they scattered rose petals.

By the time they finished, it was already late afternoon. The winter days were short, so it got dark quickly.

Liu Xinyue held a large bouquet and took a few deep breaths.

Basking in the candlelight, she mustered her courage and said to Jiang Xueli, ”Okay, I’m going to call him. I’ll succeed, right?”

Jiang Xueli nodded. ”Mhm, you can definitely do it.”

Liu Xinyue excitedly took out her phone and found his number, but just as she was about to press the call button, her face grew redder and redder with shyness.

”I... can I really do this? I’ve never taken the initiative to do anything like this before.”

Her nervousness was starting to make Jiang Xueli a little tense too. ”You can do it! Go for it, Xinyue!”

Liu Xinyue’s hand moved toward the call button again, but she immediately pulled back, clenching her little fist. ”No, no, I’m not ready yet! Can I really do this? How am I even supposed to ask him to come out?”

Jiang Xueli knew this was just how her proud friend’s personality was, so she wasn’t impatient. She just kept reassuring her. ”Just say it directly! You can do it!”

”Can I really do it?”

”You can!”

Liu Xinyue looked at her best friend, clenched her little fists, and shouted with her eyes closed as if to pump herself up, ”You’re right, I can do it!”

”You can do it!” Jiang Xueli cheered her on.

Liu Xinyue continued to shout, ”I can do it!”

Jiang Xueli continued to cheer, ”You can do it!”

”I can do it!”

”You can do it!”

Who knows how long this back-and-forth of hesitation and indecision went on. Suddenly, a passerby walked over, making both girls blush with embarrassment.

The passerby said, ”Huh? Are you two here to confess to someone, too? What a coincidence. This park is usually empty. I can’t believe there are two confessions happening today.”

Jiang Xueli and Liu Xinyue glanced at each other, and she asked curiously, ”There’s another one?”

The passerby grunted in affirmation and pointed into the distance. ”Right over there. It looks like a little girl is confessing to her childhood sweetheart, and he even said yes. If I didn’t have to go home for dinner, I’d definitely stick around to watch.”

Liu Xinyue was curious. ”Really?” She looked at Jiang Xueli indecisively and chuckled. ”Lili, why don’t we go take a look at how other people confess? To learn? Maybe if I watch, I won’t be so anxious anymore.”

Jiang Xueli thought that was a good idea, so she went over with Liu Xinyue.

When they arrived at the other confession scene, they found that quite a crowd had already gathered. The female lead’s setup was very simple—just a single candle on the ground and a bouquet in her hands.

The girl confessing was a young lady in a white dress with a face full of freckles. While not stunning, she was still quite cute. As for the male lead, he was very tall.

’As for his looks and aura,’ Jiang Xueli thought, ’he’s not even one-tenth as handsome as a certain big idiot.’

The cute girl held the flowers, her voice filled with excitement. ”You really agreed to be with me?!”

The boy had a gentle expression and nodded shyly. ”Of course. Since you were brave enough to confess, how could I say no?”

The cute girl said, enunciating every word, ”I like you!”

The boy also replied, enunciating every word, ”I like you, too.”

The scattered onlookers started to clap and tease, ”Kiss! Kiss!”

The two of them shyly drew closer and kissed.

Jiang Xueli felt too shy to watch and turned to Liu Xinyue with a smile. ”Xinyue, see? It’s actually pretty simple. You just have to tell him you like him and... and... Why are you crying?!”

She hadn’t noticed that Liu Xinyue had been frozen still the whole time, her trembling gaze fixed on the couple. The bouquet in her hand fell to the ground.

Her heart shattered into a million pieces.

”Th... that boy... my boy...” she stammered, tears streaming down her face as she watched the boy she liked kissing his childhood sweetheart. ”No! No!”
