Raising Yanderes to save the world

The more Kael heard the person in front of him speak, the more he felt like he was losing his mind. He wanted to cover his ears and tune out the outside world, but he had a feeling that it would not help him.

Ignoring the situation was not going to change the outcome.

”You are not a vessel of the corruption. That is the first thing I checked when I met you. You have almost no trace of corruption inside you.”

Leon assured Kael, and that made him sigh in relief.

Kael knew that he was fine due to the effects of the World Magic, but hearing someone else say it still made him feel at ease.

As for the rest of the situation...

”Do you have a plan for what you are going to do? We cannot leave a situation like this unresolved.”

Kael pointed out, and Leon immediately nodded to show that he understood.

”Of course! I know that it might be a little difficult for you to believe me right now, but I do have a solution to this problem. And that is to lock the corruption back inside a cage, just like before. It is not a perfect solution, but this way, it will become a problem for future generations.”

Leon proposed a solution that could be repeated. It sounded perfect at first glance, but Kael still had his doubts.

The idea sounded simple, but the fact that no hero before Leon had tried it likely meant that it was incredibly difficult and risky. There was no point in assuming it would be easy.

”Kael, are you worried that the magic will fail? There is no need to doubt us. We were able to reverse time and even bring you back. There is no way we will fail this. Please believe us!”

The thing was...Kael did trust Leon a lot, and he knew that the hero would not lie to him.

But somewhere in his heart, he was still harboring a shred of doubt that made him feel guilty toward Leon.

”I will see what you do from here before deciding whether I am on your side or not.”

Kael told Leon, and the younger man nodded to show that he understood. A burden seemed to have lifted from his shoulders, making him suddenly look his age.

”Ugh, finally! I thought I was going to go mad hiding all this from you. If the situation had been different, then I would never have told you any of this.”

Leon looked apologetic and relieved at the same time, and Kael simply nodded, feeling numb.

He was not surprised that Leon had tried something this dangerous. Now that he had seen the hero’s true self, he could tell that Leon was a reckless fool.

But the fact that Seraphina and even Iris had tried something this reckless made Kael feel like he had misjudged them.

Moreover, if Leon’s memories had returned, then did that mean...

”Are Iris and Seraphina like you as well? Do they have memories of their past lives?”

He already knew that Elena had her memories, but they were locked away inside her mind and were being absorbed slowly.

But Iris and Seraphina as well? He felt a little betrayed.

Leon noticed the look on his face and decided that he did not want to face Kael’s anger and disappointment.

”I am sure they had their reasons for keeping this a secret from you. So I won’t make excuses for them like I did for myself. But if possible, can you give them a second chance as well?”

Leon asked, and Kael let out a sigh.

”I will think about it.”

He told Leon, and the conversation ended there.

...

Kael headed back to his room and threw himself face-first onto his soft bed. The softness beneath his body made his sore muscles feel better.

But while his body relaxed, his mind was a mess.

”Too much is happening. I don’t think I can keep up with all this. I just want to fall asleep and not wake up for a long time.”

Kael closed his eyes in an attempt to do just that, but sleep would not come. In fact, he suddenly felt wide awake in the middle of the night with nothing else to do. So he started thinking back on everything that had happened.

Once again, his thoughts returned to the World Magic.

He had often wondered why the World Magic had been invoked, why it had chosen him to save the world, and why it had chosen such a dangerous method.

But now he was beginning to understand, little by little.

This was the World Magic’s way of telling him that he needed to take responsibility for what had happened because of him.

His death had caused the others to lose their minds (not that it was his fault), and it had ended with them reversing time and invoking the corruption’s authority.

The world had sensed this change and started preparing a counterattack against the corruption.

But just as many questions remained unanswered.

If the corruption was also a form of World Magic, then what had created it, and who had cast it? It could not have been the world itself since the world naturally sought to preserve its own existence.

Where had the first World Magic come from, and what did it truly represent?

There was still so much that remained a mystery, and Kael wanted to uncover the truth behind it all.

/Are you thinking about the truth? I admire your courage. But I am afraid that the truth of this world is something a human like you will never be able to glimpse. But if you would like, I can show it to you./

The corruption whispered inside Kael’s mind, but he no longer felt afraid of it.

He had been worried that he would lose his body to the corruption, but that fear was slowly fading the more time passed.

If the corruption had wanted to take over his consciousness, then it would have done so already. The fact that it had waited this long meant that it had another goal.

And Kael wanted to know what that goal was.
