Reborn As Noble

Meanwhile.

Tybalt East Border.

”General!!!” a soldier shouted, rushing toward the main command tent where the general was meeting with his captains and unit leaders.

”General!!!!”

”What!!!? How dare you barge in during an important meeting!” The general glared hard at the soldier, who was being held back by elite guards at the tent entrance.

”General! The Armand army is landing and marching toward our positions!!”

”What!! How!? They only just arrived not two hours ago! And I was in this meeting!!” the general shouted, gritting his teeth before turning to stare at the map spread across the table.

”What should we do, General?” one of the captains asked, his voice tense.

”I’m thinking!!!”

He paced back and forth. ”We just sent our fastest messenger to Garka Estate! I thought Armand wouldn’t land or advance so quickly!”

He gripped the hilt of his sword. ”How!!!? Tybalt wasn’t supposed to be able to reach Garius or get to Armand in time! There’s no way they could have secured aid that fast!”

”Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!!!” The general slammed his fist on the map table. ”If we march, we don’t know what will happen. If we fire with our current cannons and the new magic bows, we don’t know if we can even put up a fight against Armand’s soldiers!”

”Shit!!!!!” He kicked over a nearby table, sending plates and mugs clattering to the ground.

He bit his thumbnail, mind racing. ”If we retreat now, Lord Garka will be furious! But if we march... there’s no guarantee any of our men will survive.”

Another elite scout stepped forward and bowed.

”General, the two times the Human Kingdom waged war against Armand... both ended in total loss. The first was the noble coalition for the Saint of Three Gods. The second was when the late King Edmund attacked the Armand border. Even with a force of five thousand elite wyvern riders... they were completely wiped out.”

”I know that, shithead!!! I was the one Lord Garka sent! If we weren’t stationed at the back lines, we would’ve been wiped out like the front! Lucky for us, Princess Kliatana stepped in and stopped it before our soldiers were slaughtered.” He glared at the scout and the other captains.

”I was there. I watched those strange flying machines chase down the fastest Elite Wyvern units and their riders. Even two thousand mages on the front lines, hurling countless fireballs toward Armand’s northern border, none of their magic got through. Everything exploded mid-air.”

He gripped his hair, his voice dropping to a haunted whisper. ”You all don’t know because you didn’t live through it. Seeing those riders fall after their wyverns exploded from something we couldn’t even see. Bodies scattering everywhere... We were terrified when one of the heads flew right toward us.”

Everyone fell silent, the air thick with dread.

”Screw Lord Garka! Tell everyone we’re retreating!! Make sure to raise white cloth so those Armand soldiers don’t attack! And listen...” He glared at every captain and squad leader in the tent. ”Don’t even think about raising a weapon or attacking. I don’t want to die for free here. It’s not worth it!”

”But General...”

”No buts!! I’ll take responsibility and meet Lord Garka personally. Tell everyone to retreat and leave as soon as possible. If you don’t attack them, they won’t attack you!”

”As you command, General!” everyone said in unison, saluting before rushing out to carry the order.

The general shouted at the elite guards standing watch.

”Tell them to prepare my horse now!”

”Yes, General!!!” both of them saluted and rushed out.

The general glanced at the elite scout. ”You best pack your gear now. I’m leaving. Tell the others to pack up everything and move!”

”Yes, General!”

The general stepped out in a rush.

I don’t want to stay here. If one dumb soldier tries to attack them, those Armand soldiers will strike without mercy.

I was at the back lines last time and saw those strange armored soldiers attacking with weapons faster than our new musketeers. There’s no way I’m risking my life here.

Screw the title. If Lord Garka strips me of my rank, so be it. I’m leaving this area.

He glanced up and noticed, hovering in the air in the distance, dozens of strange flying metal shapes.

Oh shit!

The general rushed to his horse, where his soldiers were hastily preparing it.

”Move over!!!” the general shouted, shoving past a stable hand and climbing into the saddle.

”Leave the area now!”

”Yes, General!!”

The general kicked his horse into a gallop, the elite guards scrambling to mount and follow in his frantic wake.

The elite guards chasing the general exchanged bewildered glances.

Why was their general, the stern, strongest among them, a holder of the Giant-Killer title, a Dervish-class advanced warrior, fleeing in such a panic?

”Pardon me, General!” one of the elite guards managed to close the distance.

”What!?”

”Why aren’t we waiting for our soldiers?”

”It’s better to reach the border first! Then we wait there! Anyone who survives will survive!”

”But General... the captains have already passed the order not to attack...”

”Yeah!?” the general shouted over the pounding of hooves. ”And what if there’s one or two dumbasses who ignore it and attack them anyway, huh!? It’s better we fall back fast!”

The elite guards looked at each other, then glanced back at the commotion rising in the distance behind them.

Most of Garka’s knights were on horseback, following them at a distance, their own retreat turning into a disorganized scramble.

The general kept his focus on the retreat, shouting toward his elite guards.

”You see those knights on horseback back there!? They’re the same units who were with me during the late King Edmund’s attack on Armand. They know how terrifying Armand is. They were waiting for my command to retreat because they can’t just abandon their posts without authorization!”

The elite guards swallowed hard and glanced back. The knights were riding their horses at a breakneck pace, their faces etched with the same urgency.

”General!” one of the knights shouted, closing the gap.

”Don’t wait and don’t look back! Retreat as fast as you can!”

”Yes, Sir!!!”
