Wizard: Scamming a Demon God

Chapter 277: Chapter 211: Siwal’s Trial

”My second condition is that I want to add a research project to our topic—the creation of the Moon’s Favored!!!”

”!!!”

Hearing Siwal’s second condition, Isaac’s pupils constricted slightly. He stared at Siwal in shock. ’According to my intel, isn’t this guy supposed to be researching the conversion of Magic into Divine Arts and Divine Arts into Magic? Why is he dabbling in something like this?’

The Moon’s Favored were a product of the Moon Goddess Siya’s authority. Anyone trying to create them would be, in effect, seizing that authority from her!

’This is the work of a Mad Witch!’

’No!’

’This is even fucking crazier than a Mad Witch!’

’Because even Mad Witches don’t go after True Gods!’

This was even more outrageous than Isaac’s own plan. While he also intended to steal the authority of the God of Credit, he never planned to take it completely for himself, nor could he. That deity’s authority was extremely useful to all High-level Mages. So, once he had it, he could simply pass it on, turning it into a method that all Wizards could learn—much like the Truth Association’s Book of Privileges. Then, the God of Credit would have nothing to complain about.

But the authority to create the Moon’s Favored was different. While this ability would also enhance a Wizard’s power, the boost wasn’t significant, and not all Wizards would be keen on such power. Therefore, the risk was definitely higher than Isaac’s plan.

However, after his brief shock, Isaac smiled. He didn’t reject the condition. Instead, he nodded and said, ”No problem. But this will have to wait until after my own project, and I’ll only proceed if there’s a viable plan. After all, you understand the risks involved better than I do.”

At these words, Siwal looked at Isaac with surprise. He now had a more complete understanding of Mad Witches. ’These guys really are a bunch of lunatics, and lunatics with no reverence for Deities, or for that matter, any powerful being.’

’But right now, this kind of madman is exactly what I need!’

”In that case... I’ll be waiting for your good news.” As he spoke, Siwal handed over a piece of parchment. ”If you succeed, use this to contact me.”

Surprise flashed in Isaac’s eyes. ’Does he... not believe in my strength?’

’After all, we both belong to the Flesh Sect and could contact each other directly through the Sect Magic Book. There’s no need for such a hassle; this kind of communication parchment is generally just for temporary use.’

’So, the only thing I can think of is that while Siwal acknowledges my guts, he doesn’t acknowledge my strength. After all, I’m just a newly-promoted High-level Mage. Even though I have the terrifying battle record of defeating a Tier Three High Knight as a newly-promoted Tier Two... but...’

’Many Wizards feel superior to Knights. To them, a High-level Knight barely even counts as Tier Three.’

’So, it’s only normal for Siwal to want to test my strength.’

So, Isaac didn’t say anything more. He just took the parchment, stood up, brushed off his Wizard Robe, and walked towards the exit.

”Wait for my good news.”

With that said, Isaac left the Truth Association’s station directly with Liu Li, making no further promises.

’Although I’m very confident in my own strength, I still know nothing about that Demon. It’s better to be cautious.’

Therefore, after leaving the Truth Association’s station, Isaac first headed to the largest Adventurers’ Tavern in Nebula City, preparing to gather some information on Isman Valley.

Unfortunately, this was where the disadvantage of his rapid advancement showed. Because his power had increased too quickly, some of Isaac’s perceptions hadn’t caught up.

For example, the Adventurers’ Tavern, which he thought was a convenient place to gather intel, actually sold information that was mostly related to Tier One Demons and Transcendents. Information on Tier Two was rare, and as for High Tier...

There was basically none.

This was because the adventurers of this world were different from the Adventurer’s Guilds Isaac was familiar with. Adventuring was actually a dead-end profession. In this world’s stories, whenever chaos threatened the land, it was always adventurers who saved the day. Nobility, too, would often become adventurers to venture out and gain experience.

But in reality, the gap between fantasy and the real world was immense!

In fantasy, adventurers lived the high life, feasting and drinking. They were either raiding labyrinths or fighting Evil Gods, their lives exceptionally exciting.

But in reality, adventurers often didn’t know where their next meal was coming from. They resorted to petty theft and trickery. Those who could consistently hunt wild Demons were already considered high-end adventurers.

Furthermore, there were two other major differences from the stories. The first was the environment. In stories, after an adventurer arrived in any town, they could just casually go out, slay some Demons, delve into a few dungeons, and make a ton of money. But in reality, for the sake of a town’s stable development, there were basically no Demons outside the city walls—the exception being goblins, as there were simply too many of them to kill off. As for labyrinths, if one were to appear, the local Lord would take care of it with their own people. There was no way adventurers would get a piece of the pie.

Places like Philis Town were specifically created for adventurers. There were no ordinary civilians there—only merchants and adventurers. After all, adventurers were all Transcendents, and even the weakest among them had greater combat strength than ordinary people. Naturally, they had to be given something to do, which also conveniently generated more tax revenue.

Then there was the second problem, which was also the biggest and most serious of all:

Power!

This was, after all, a world where the strong reigned supreme, and the strongest adventurers were merely Tier Two...

For one, most of the Extraordinary Professions for adventurers were garbage, with a ceiling of just Tier Two. For another, even the few who were proper Knights or Wizards were either nobles gaining experience who would go back after a while, or they had joined some large organization in order to advance further.

After all, while Transcendent advancement in this world wasn’t like in the mortal-path Cultivation novels from his previous life where you needed a specific pill to advance, there were similar things, and they were even more strictly controlled!

Even the few lucky ones who obtained one of the rare advancement Techniques scattered about or found in ruins would seek to join a major power after advancing to Tier Three. If they had a choice, who the fuck would want to be an adventurer?

But Isaac hadn’t known any of this. He had advanced too quickly, and the one legitimate adventurer he knew, Lorna, had spent most of her time living a life even worse than an adventurer’s... So in his mind, his impression of them hadn’t changed.

”Sigh...” Walking out of the Adventurers’ Tavern, Isaac let out a heavy sigh. ’I never thought advancing too quickly would have this kind of drawback...’

’I should’ve just looked it up at the Truth Association. They definitely have intel on a sub-plane containing a mere Tier Three Demon. Unfortunately, the nouveau riche atmosphere there is just too thick—so thick that I felt extremely uncomfortable just being there...’

’But it’s not a big deal. This trip wasn’t a total waste. At least I know the location of Isman Valley now. I can leave the rest to the Dimension Apostles. Since they can’t truly die, they’re the perfect expendables for scouting!’
