Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 266: Chapter 256: Delivered to the Doorstep

When Tang Mo returned to the base tent, Duoyang was helplessly holding a crying Xianxian, completely at a loss.

He’d never even been in a relationship; he had no idea how to comfort a girl. ’This is just too much to ask!’

The moment he saw Tang Mo enter, Duoyang felt as if a great weight had been lifted. But before he could speak, Tang Mo pulled him into the room where the bear cub was being kept.

Ever since Tang Mo had started staying there, Duoyang had been eating and sleeping with the little bear every day.

”Do you want to send it back to the forest?”

Tang Mo asked, getting straight to the point.

Duoyang was stunned for a moment, then nodded.

Of course he did. Although he was very fond of the bear cub, he also knew his tent was no home for a bear.

Watching the little bear grow bigger and bigger, he knew he would soon be unable to protect it.

Once it was discovered by Qiangba and his people, a fate too tragic to imagine would await it. He couldn’t bear the thought, but he was powerless to stop it.

He knew, of course, that returning it to the forest to be with its own kind was the best possible outcome.

”But we have no way of getting it to the forest. The area around the forest is full of adult bears. The moment they find us with a bear cub, they’ll tear us to pieces.”

If it were possible to return the little bear to the forest, Duoyang would have been more than willing; he was just helpless because there seemed to be no way.

”I have a way. You’re coming with me.”

Tang Mo took out a large bag and stuffed the little bear inside.

”You be good now. I’m taking you home,” Tang Mo instructed before zipping up the bag, pushing the little bear’s head inside.

The zipper wasn’t completely closed, so the little bear inside wouldn’t have to worry about breathing.

Duoyang watched Tang Mo, and recalling the formidable power he had recently witnessed from her, he ultimately decided not to ask any more questions. He obediently shut his mouth and followed behind her.

If Hulan Base had any merits, its only one was freedom.

As long as you passed the challenge to earn the right to enter the base, no one would check you coming or going afterward.

There weren’t many people in the base, so the gate guards could still tell strangers from familiar faces. There was no need for complicated technology like ID Watch authentication.

Just like that, Tang Mo swaggered out with Duoyang, a huge bag on her back.

Behind them, several shadowy figures furtively tailed them out of the base.

Tang Mo’s bag was so large and conspicuous that anyone would assume there must be something good inside.

Only after they had walked a good distance did Tang Mo finally stop.

She had noticed her ”tails” long ago, but with the bear cub with her, it wasn’t convenient to cause trouble near the base.

Now that they were out on the plains, she naturally had no more reservations.

She was already in a bad mood. After witnessing the bears’ friendly attitude toward humans and their pain at losing their children, Tang Mo was utterly disgusted with the people of Hulan Base.

”Drop the bag, and we’ll spare your lives.”

Seeing that they had reached an open area and their targets were only two people, the men who had been following them jumped out from the tall grass.

What a coincidence. The men standing before them were the very same ones who had gone out with Lin Yu to steal a bear cub that day.

When they saw Lin Yu get discovered by the mother bear near the forest, they had immediately fled back to the base, saving their own skins.

After returning to the base, they first told Lin Yu’s sister the news of his death.

But only later did it occur to them: Lin Yu’s sister was all alone now. With Lin Yu having been so strong, he must have left behind plenty of good stuff. Wouldn’t it all belong to them now?

But when they went back, they found Lin Yu’s sister was gone. The empty tent left behind had no treasures, not even a single daily necessity or scrap of food.

After searching the base, they finally heard the little girl’s voice coming from Duoyang’s tent.

They were certain the little girl had taken her things and sought refuge with Duoyang and this outsider woman; they just didn’t know how they had all gotten hooked up.

They couldn’t let someone else get the spoils. Now, seeing Tang Mo and Duoyang leave the base with such a large bag, they were even more convinced it was the ”inheritance” Lin Yu had left behind.

And that was what led to the current robbery.

But unfortunately for them, today was their unlucky day.

What they didn’t know, of course, was that to protect his sister to the greatest extent, Lin Yu had long ago acquired a small Space treasure and had her wear it as a necklace.

Xianxian was the one who carried all their supplies and food with her at all times.

That way, if Lin Yu ever met with an accident, Xianxian wouldn’t be left unable to survive.

Now, these unlucky bastards had a rough idea of the woman’s strength, but there were several of them. Their opponents were just one woman and a softy who only knew how to feed animals. Naturally, they felt they had nothing to fear.

”Hold the bag.”

Tang Mo handed the bag with the bear cub to Duoyang and cracked her knuckles.

With no outsiders around, Tang Mo no longer had to hold back.

Her spiritual power materialized into countless Wind Blades, which coiled into a small whirlwind that rushed toward the men.

The people of Hulan Base were used to bare-fisted brawls; they had never seen a spectacle like this.

The men were still stunned when the whirlwind swept over them.

By the time the Wind Blades had circled them once and retracted back into Tang Mo’s body, the men had collapsed to the ground, covered in blood.

Each of them looked as if they had been subjected to a death by a thousand cuts, with countless wounds all over their bodies, from which blood gushed out.

What was most terrifying was that they weren’t dead. Their vital points hadn’t been hit, but the countless bleeding wounds and the flesh carved from their bodies plunged them into a pain so excruciating they wished for death.

”The pain you inflict on other creatures will come back to you one day. Sooner or later.”

Tang Mo watched as their faces twisted in pain, then as they slowly lost consciousness from blood loss, and finally died.

These men before her were from the team most enthusiastic about hunting bears. They were also the ones who tortured the Baby Bears the most, and in the most depraved ways.

After these men were dead, the stone weighing on Tang Mo’s heart seemed to shift slightly, and she felt a great deal lighter.

”They really just served themselves up for me to vent on. How nice. Let’s go.”

Tang Mo tossed her hair. In a much better mood, she took the little bear out of the bag, held it in her arms, and strode toward the forest.

Meanwhile, Duoyang’s eyes were wide as he stared at the gruesome deaths of these men, who were known for bullying the weak and acting tyrannically around the base. A feeling of immense satisfaction washed over him.

’Good heavens,’ Duoyang thought, ’this woman is really not to be messed with.’

He silently made a mental note to himself: never, ever provoke the woman ahead of him. Then, he quickened his pace to catch up to Tang Mo.
