Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 251: Chapter 241: Escape

Of course, Tang Mo knew it wasn’t a fish. She had learned that whales were mammals back in elementary school.

Tang Mo’s heart relaxed a little upon learning that the creatures of the sea wouldn’t actively hunt and slaughter humanity.

After all, the number of creatures in the ocean was practically infinite. Humanity was already struggling to survive; if they had to add these to their list of enemies, their circumstances would be truly terrifying.

It seemed her trip to Donglin City hadn’t been in vain. At the very least, she had solved the most important question that had been weighing on her mind.

After politely bidding farewell to Da Jing, Tang Mo withdrew her spiritual power.

A few hours later, when everyone had come down from their houses to carve up food for a meal, Tang Mo spoke up.

”Do you want to get out of here with me?”

”If we could get out, we would’ve left ages ago. Don’t you come in here, little girl, and start making empty boasts.”

The tone of Uncle Bao’s current woman was caustic. She had taken a dislike to Tang Mo the moment she arrived.

After all, before Tang Mo’s arrival, she had been the youngest and most attractive woman there. But now that this girl in her early twenties had shown up, she felt her status was in jeopardy.

Everyone else here seemed to have some connection to the ”small fishing village” they spoke of. She was the only one who had been out at sea somewhere else, accidentally fallen overboard, and been unlucky enough to be swallowed by the giant beast.

In fact, before Uncle Bao arrived, this mutant beast had swallowed plenty of other humans.

But ever since Uncle Bao had built his house on the ”wall,” people had realized there was another way to survive.

After all, who else could maintain such composure in a crisis and find a way to save themselves?

Not just anyone could build a small house on those slippery walls.

The woman’s life had been saved by Uncle Bao’s house. To ensure the relationship—and her own survival—would last, she had simply seduced the man.

’For men and women, it’s the only way to forge a lasting bond.’

”I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t have my reasons. You’re more than welcome to stay behind.”

Tang Mo couldn’t be bothered to argue with the woman.

”How do we leave?”

Uncle Bao was the first to ask how.

Tang Mo had dared to enter so rashly because she hadn’t pinned all her hopes on successfully negotiating with the giant beast.

Naturally, she had figured out an escape plan before she ever came in.

It was just that the escape plan was, well... not exactly perfect.

”I’ll use my spiritual power to create a ball of light around us. Then, the next time that highly corrosive fluid flows in, we’ll ride it out inside the ball, along with the digested food.”

Tang Mo’s explanation was tactful, but everyone understood what she meant: they would be excreted by the giant beast.

It wasn’t that they hadn’t considered this method before. But after experimenting, they had discovered the liquid was far too corrosive.

A person couldn’t survive in it for even ten seconds without being completely dissolved.

”Are you sure that ball of light of yours can withstand the strong acid without being destroyed?”

Uncle Bao was a cautious man, and his decision was essentially the decision of everyone here.

Everyone wanted to get out, but if the chances of leaving alive were too slim, then perhaps Life itself was the most important thing.

”A fifty percent chance of getting out alive. What do you say? Want to give it a shot?”

In truth, Tang Mo knew exactly what her Spiritual Light Ball was capable of.

It could withstand not just strong acid, but even the attack of a mutant beast.

She never would have come in if the chance of success wasn’t one hundred percent.

But now, she wanted to see what these people’s attitudes truly were about escaping.

”I’m not going! My child and I are not going anywhere!”

The woman shrieked immediately.

’Fifty percent... That’s a one-in-two chance of dying. I’m not taking that risk.’

She had already experienced the early days of the apocalypse before she ended up in here. It was a dog-eat-dog world.

Here in this little world, she didn’t have to worry about food or clothing, and she didn’t have to do anything.

’Where else in the world could you find a deal this good? There’s no way I’m risking it by going outside.’

”We’re going!”

Da Yu’s parents were the first to decide.

”We’re parents. Our child is still out there. For all this time, the only thing that’s kept us alive is the thought that we might see our child again someday. Never mind a fifty percent chance—even if it were only ten percent, we would still have to go!”

The look in the eyes of Da Yu’s parents was identical—one of unyielding resolve.

Tang Mo nodded, then turned to Uncle Bao.

”I’m going too. I have to go home.”

Uncle Bao didn’t hesitate, merely muttering with his head lowered.

”Go home? Are you abandoning me and your son? You don’t want your son anymore?”

The woman shrieked once again.

Her current comfortable life was entirely thanks to Uncle Bao.

If he left, she and her child wouldn’t be able to survive.

She had heard stories about Uncle Bao’s previous wife, so the moment she heard him say he wanted to go home, she flew into a rage.

’If he goes home, what will happen to her and their child?’

But no matter how the woman screamed, cried, and beat at him, Uncle Bao remained silent.

He said nothing, head bowed, allowing the woman to have her fit. But no one could change the decision he had made.

”Alright. Then the next time the corrosive liquid comes will be the day we leave.”

Tang Mo didn’t want to interfere with anyone’s decision. It was their life; whether to go or stay was a choice they had to make by listening to their own hearts.

According to Da Yu’s parents, it would only be three days until the strong acid came again.

For these three days, Tang Mo had no choice but to stay on her plank high up in the air.

Although Tang Mo didn’t have to worry about food or drink for those three days thanks to her supplies from her Space, the harsh living conditions were still almost unbearable.

The ”walls” constantly secreted a viscous liquid, which was the other survivors’ source of water.

The entire space would also tremble suddenly from time to time, and the ”walls” would often contract and squirm.

The fish on the ground had piled up in a thick layer. They had died from lack of water long ago and now emitted a foul odor that made one want to retch.

And because of their hunger, when there was no fresh food, the others had no choice but to eat these spoiling fish.

’What kind of iron stomachs must they have, to eat this stuff every day and still have the energy to argue.’

Tang Mo couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of admiration as she watched the daily scene of the woman from the other house throwing tantrums at Uncle Bao.

Tang Mo found it even harder to imagine what it must feel like to be stuck here for years, let alone a lifetime.

Fortunately, the three days passed quickly.

Not long after a wave of heat washed over them, the highly corrosive liquid began to pour in from above.
