Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 87: Chapter 79: Gray Monkey Battle

The trip to the Alliance Beast Fighting Arena hadn’t been a complete waste for Tang Mo. At the very least, she had learned a useful piece of information from Qin Fen.

Namely, that mutant beasts could be tamed.

Truth be told, Tang Mo wasn’t accustomed to fighting in a team.

She was far too guarded to entrust her back to anyone she didn’t know well. So, having a tamed mutant beast as a combat partner would be ideal.

However, Qin Fen had been vague about the requirements for bonding with a mutant beast. Back home, Tang Mo decided to research the matter thoroughly.

Such information was available online, but the latest findings from the research institutes came with a price.

Tang Mo paid for access to an authoritative research institute’s forum and found the relevant information on taming mutant beasts.

After reading the 28-page research paper back and forth several times, Tang Mo finally began to understand the process.

It turned out that mutant beasts, like humans, were born with spiritual power.

But their spiritual power and independent consciousness were weaker than those of humans. This meant that if a person could use their own spiritual power to envelop the beast’s and force it into complete submission, the beast could be tamed.

To be tamed meant the beast would obey you wholeheartedly, accepting you as its master.

However, the backlash from a spiritual power confrontation was immense.

This required the tamer to possess not only powerful spiritual power but also a high Comprehensive Attribute Value and strong physical conditioning.

Taming was still just a theoretical concept. In practice, no one had yet succeeded.

”Spiritual power can be used this way?” Tang Mo murmured.

Tang Mo’s mind raced. ’If spiritual power can be used to confront and subjugate, then theoretically, it should work on humans too, not just mutant beasts.’

Of course, the spiritual and physical requirements for that would be far greater.

’But what if it wasn’t about subjugation, but temporary control? That would probably be much easier.’

But that was a problem for another day. For now, she had to focus on how to tame a mutant beast.

Regarding the requirements for taming, although Tang Mo didn’t have one hundred percent confidence in herself, she felt it was worth a try.

She had just enhanced her Life Force, her Spirit Attribute Value was extremely high, and she possessed countless Crystal Cores and several abnormal treasures.

If her overall ranking was only one hundredth in all of Huaxia, she was confident her spiritual power ranking could make the top ten.

’Someone has to be the first to try, so why can’t it be me?’

Once an idea took root in her mind, impatience was sure to follow.

With almost no preparation or delay, Tang Mo got up, left S Base, and headed for a jungle in the wilderness.

The jungle was where mutant beasts were most numerous. Tang Mo didn’t dare get overconfident; she knew she couldn’t possibly tame a mature, adult Intermediate Beast.

But the young of a Basic-level Mutant Beast was a much more certain prospect. That was her goal for this trip.

As if sensing the powerful spiritual power radiating from Tang Mo, the lone Basic-level Mutant Beasts didn’t approach; instead, they scattered and hid.

Mutant beasts were growing more and more intelligent, which Tang Mo didn’t consider a good thing.

After wandering the jungle for over half an hour and killing a roe deer and a rabbit, Tang Mo still hadn’t found her target.

Mammals that were too weak were no good either. If it couldn’t help her in future battles, taming it would be a waste of effort.

’Perhaps I’m being too hasty. The right kind of mutant beast is a matter of luck, not searching.’

Tang Mo sighed and started walking toward the edge of the jungle. She decided to head back for now and deal with the taming matter later, when a suitable opportunity arose.

But fate is a funny thing. Just as she was about to leave the jungle’s edge, she saw a small, bloodstained monkey on the ground.

The monkey was tiny, looking like it had only been born a few days ago. It was wounded and trembling on the ground.

It looked like it had just been attacked by something.

’This is the one!’ A jolt of delight went through Tang Mo.

’Could there be a more suitable target?’

No longer hesitating, her mind made up, Tang Mo approached the little monkey and released her spiritual power.

Her spiritual power inched closer to the little monkey’s head until it had fully probed inside.

Tang Mo clearly saw a small point of light in the little monkey’s brain—it was spiritual power, a sight she was all too familiar with.

The point of light wasn’t large and was somewhat dim. At that moment, it seemed to be baring its fangs at Tang Mo, the foreign invader.

’There’s a chance.’

Tang Mo gauged her own spiritual power against the monkey’s and felt that the taming should be successful.

Her spiritual power crept closer and closer to the other’s point of light, but just as it was about to make contact, a sharp pain shot through Tang Mo’s leg.

She looked down and saw that an adult Gray Monkey had attacked her with incredible speed before swiftly blocking the little monkey from view.

That must be the little monkey’s mother. Seeing its child covered in blood, it must have mistaken Tang Mo for the attacker.

The monkey couldn’t see the spiritual power, but it could sense that this human was trying to control its child.

It couldn’t let that happen.

’So close!’

Tang Mo wasn’t about to give up. Withdrawing her spiritual power at this point wouldn’t be easy either.

’I might as well risk it and finish the taming.’

But the Gray Monkey clearly wasn’t going to let the human achieve her goal so easily.

It swiftly scooped up the little monkey and leaped into a large nearby tree. After settling its young, it rushed back down, ready to attack Tang Mo.

The Gray Monkey’s series of actions completely interrupted Tang Mo’s taming attempt. Because she couldn’t control the direction of her spiritual power in time, it snapped away from the little monkey.

Before she could fully retract it, it slammed head-on into the Gray Monkey.

That directionless, exposed wisp of spiritual power plunged uncontrollably into the Gray Monkey’s body.

It was a halo of light far more powerful than the little monkey’s.

’No, I have to retreat.’

After getting a clear look at the spiritual power inside the Gray Monkey, Tang Mo made a quick assessment and immediately prepared to withdraw her own.

A monkey’s spiritual power was already considered very strong among animals, and this Gray Monkey was in its prime. There was no way she could subjugate it.

But the enraged monkey wasn’t about to let Tang Mo retreat so easily. Its raging instincts subconsciously drove its own spiritual power to launch an attack on her.

’Too late. I’ll have to bite the bullet and face it.’

The situation was no longer one she could choose to leave. She could only steel herself and prepare for this battle of spiritual power.

If she succeeded, the rewards would be immense. If she failed, she might not make it out of this forest today.
