Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 51: Chapter 45: A New Beginning

The people in the cafeteria soon trickled out until it was empty. They had been trapped here for over half a year. The once beautiful ivory tower was now like a prison to them—a prison full of dangers where death could come at any moment.

No matter how dangerous the outside world was, no one wanted to spend another second here.

Tang Mo, however, wasn’t in a hurry to set off. Instead, she called her mother. The fog across the world had dissipated at the same time. Since she wasn’t ready to return to S Base to see Lin Yi, she knew she had to call so her mother wouldn’t worry.

As expected, when Lin Yi heard Tang Mo’s plans over the video call, she was furious.

She had been worried about her daughter for half a year, and now that they could finally see each other, Tang Mo was saying she wasn’t coming home and wanted to go out and train. There was no way Lin Yi could accept that.

’Train?’

Thinking of all the terrifying things out there, Lin Yi grew so anxious that tears welled up in her eyes.

”Mom, don’t worry. I’m really strong now, seriously!” Tang Mo tried to comfort her mother.

”I promise, I’ll definitely come back when the baby is born, okay?” Lin Yi was only four months pregnant, so there was still half a year to go until the baby was born. Tang Mo said this simply to placate her mother for the time being.

Lin Yi wiped away her tears. She knew her daughter’s temperament well. Once Tang Mo set her mind on something, no amount of persuasion could change it.

”Momo, it’s Uncle Wen. If you really don’t want to come back for now, you must protect yourself out there alone. If you run into any danger, call me immediately. Don’t be afraid, I’ll bring people and take a plane; we’ll be there in no time.”

Wen Jianshu squeezed into the video frame. Having lived on his own for over forty years, he had come to see Tang Mo as his own family, and he was extremely protective of his family.

Besides, as one of the current leaders of the Alliance, he understood her choice and inwardly commended her for it.

A child with this kind of drive was the type who could truly make something of themselves in the apocalypse. All he could do was protect and support her.

Although he could have protected her like a delicate flower, what Tang Mo was choosing to do now was what he truly admired.

”I’m going too!” Lin Yi shouted while wiping her tears.

”Honey, you should stay here. I’m powerful enough to protect Momo. You just focus on resting at home,” Wen Jianshu said meekly.

”No! I’m going! I’ll go even if it means giving birth on the plane!” Lin Yi insisted, her resolve unshakeable where Tang Mo was concerned.

”Okay, okay, okay, the whole family will go. Zhima will go too. We’ll all go,” the henpecked Wen Jianshu immediately agreed.

Tang Mo burst out laughing.

She laughed so hard her stomach ached. She knew all about Zhima, her mother’s Labrador, from her frequent chats with Lin Yi.

After another long round of reminders, Tang Mo was finally able to hang up.

Although she might have seemed impatient, she felt a warmth spreading through her chest.

She now had Qin Ling, her mother and unborn sibling, Uncle Wen, and Zhima.

Having people (and a dog) waiting for her, having a home to return to—it felt so good. Even if she had to face crueler things ahead, she was no longer afraid.

’Perhaps this is what people mean when they say love makes you brave.’

Taking advantage of the solitude, Tang Mo reorganized her Space. The original area had been completely filled, and the extra room she gained from the upgrade was now also packed with the supplies she’d taken from Qin Ling’s dorm. There wasn’t an inch to spare.

As usual, Tang Mo stuffed two bottles of mineral water, some cookies, bread, candy, and a few daily necessities into her backpack.

She didn’t team up with anyone, choosing instead to set out by herself after everyone else was gone.

She didn’t really have a specific destination. Tang Mo recalled the places where famous abnormal treasures had appeared in her past life, wondering if she could snag any overlooked treasures.

She couldn’t remember the others very clearly. The only one she recalled was a Desert Flower in B City. Back then, the person who got the flower had auctioned it off for twelve Intermediate Spirit Stones.

Twelve Intermediate Spirit Stones of different attributes were worth 120 attribute points. So why would someone still pay that price for that abnormal treasure?

It was because that abnormal treasure had the highest attribute value of any discovered at the time: 100 Spirit Attribute Points.

That happened about a year into the apocalypse. By then, people already knew the immense power of spiritual power, and a Spirit Attribute Value of 100 was a critical threshold. Exceeding that value would elevate one’s spiritual power to a whole new level.

Of course, the benefits of an abnormal treasure worth 100 attribute points weren’t limited to that. The energy it contained also provided a massive boost to one’s physical constitution.

This was something Tang Mo had already discovered when she used her Intermediate Spirit Stone.

The 100 attribute points and physical enhancement were just the benefits for an ordinary person. For Tang Mo, however, there was another, crucial benefit.

Expanding the area of her Space!

Last time, an Intermediate Spirit Stone worth 10 attribute points had increased her Space by a full square meter. Tang Mo didn’t even dare to imagine how much a 100-point abnormal treasure could expand it.

In her previous life, the Desert Flower was acquired by a family. Twelve Intermediate Spirit Stones was a significant sum, not just for an individual, but for any family.

They poured all their resources into acquiring the Desert Flower, all to cultivate a genius in their family: Lin Yu.

By that time, people had already understood that developing All Attributes was not the correct path.

No matter how high one’s Comprehensive Attribute Value was, in a fight, they were not as formidable as someone who focused on developing a single attribute.

The Comprehensive Attribute Value combat power rankings were simply based on total attribute values; it didn’t mean that the top-ranked person could necessarily defeat the tenth-ranked one.

There were far too many other factors to consider, such as a person’s physical conditioning, coordination, and flexibility. Their equipment, weaponry, and capacity for strategic thinking were also crucial elements in any battle.

Lin Yu was a very famous figure in her last life. He was already a genius in spiritual power, and after obtaining the Desert Flower, no one knew just how powerful he had become.

The applications of spiritual power depended entirely on an individual’s insight, and Lin Yu was undoubtedly a genius in that regard.

’If I could get my hands on that Desert Flower...’

Tang Mo indulged in the fantasy for a second but quickly snapped out of it.

’That was a legendary treasure from my past life. I shouldn’t get my hopes up.’

However, B City was right next to T City, where she was now. Due to massive topographical changes, it had become a huge desert.

’In any case, I don’t have a destination right now, so it wouldn’t hurt to go take a look.’

The map function on her ID Watch would ensure that even in the current situation, Tang Mo would still have accurate reference points and directions, so she wouldn’t get lost.

Tang Mo made up her mind quickly. She shouldered her backpack, straightened her clothes, and walked out of the school gates, heading in the direction of B City.
