After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 240: Chapter 240: Fern Spencer’s Plan

”Who keeps a dog this big nowadays? They must not be worried about how much it eats.”

Edric Lewis pulled free from Fifth Mr. Stone’s grasp.

”There’s only one household in this entire base that keeps a dog, so you’d better keep your mouth shut when you see her from now on.”

Fifth Mr. Stone warned.

She’s someone not even Hugo Crawford dares to mess with right now.

”You mean...”

”Forget about the dog. Stone, where the hell is that activity camp? We still haven’t been. I heard there’s a vault there where you can get Gold Coins?”

Someone else asked from the side.

”It’s not far. In fact, you could say it’s very close. If you want to get Gold Coins, they have to take a liking to you. I’m just going to have some fun...”

In the distance, Nina Jacobs had already walked quite a way, to the point where the men behind her could no longer see her.

But she’d heard every single word of their conversation.

Before Claire Warner was rescued by Heath Chandler, that guy Lysander Vaughn had also mentioned the activity camp.

Many things were forbidden within the City D Base, including all sorts of vice and gambling that were illegal even before the apocalypse.

Nina Jacobs guessed the activity camp was likely a place that had sprung up to evade the base’s jurisdiction.

”Brought you out for a walk and ended up hearing so much.”

Nina Jacobs said this to Treasure.

Treasure wagged his tail and marked a spot on the wall.

She was just about ready to head back.

She needed to package more ”Blood Stopping Spray” tonight.

Ever since Levi Stone’s and Chester Pearson’s teams started using the ”Blood Stopping Spray,” several other captains had come to Claire Warner one after another to purchase it.

Fortunately, she no longer had to worry about a lack of containers.

However, aside from the base’s rescue teams, purchases were still limited for everyone else.

But that afternoon, Fern Spencer showed up at the little shop looking utterly dejected.

”Claire, I’ve got a business proposition. Are you in?”

Fern Spencer bought a bottle of Blood Stopping Spray and spoke as she sprayed it on a wound on her body.

”What kind of business?”

The two had gotten familiar with each other over this period. Even when she wasn’t buying anything, Fern Spencer would stop by to say hello whenever she saw the little shop.

”A heist. But it’s a little dangerous.”

Fern Spencer didn’t look like she was joking.

”Why not take your Space Superpower User?”

Even though they were friendly, Nina Jacobs knew their interests weren’t necessarily aligned.

”Thorne, she...” Fern Spencer’s voice choked with emotion.

”It’s all because those bastards attracted a horde of zombies. I looked away for one second, and Thorne... she was infected.”

Fern Spencer lowered her head.

After being scratched by a zombie, while she was still conscious, Sharon Thorne had taken out all the supplies from her personal space for her...

Nina Jacobs fell silent as well.

She vaguely remembered her as a kind, cheerful girl who loved to smile.

”I failed to protect her.”

Fern Spencer said sorrowfully.

”What does this have to do with the heist?”

Nina Jacobs asked, handing her a pack of tissues.

”It does. Those bastards were dead drunk. They were the ones who crashed their car into Thorne’s, driving recklessly. They’re all from the activity camp.”

Fern Spencer’s face was filled with resentment. She shouldn’t have led everyone in that direction that day.

She’d forgotten it was near the activity camp.

”So the place you’re talking about is the activity camp?”

Nina Jacobs finally understood.

She had no interest in other places, but if it was the activity camp, it might be worth a shot.

Besides, Fern Spencer seemed to know its exact location.

”I heard it was set up by the Crawford Army, but as you know, many teams are under the Crawford Army’s protection and even cooperate with them. You could say the place is ’shared.’”

Since the men and women who went there to earn supplies did so voluntarily, and it wasn’t inside the base, everyone who knew about it tacitly accepted its existence.

”So where exactly is this place?”

”In some old alleyways, over on Ariden Road.”

”...”

’The old alleys of Ariden Road...’

After hearing this, Nina Jacobs could barely stop herself from cursing out loud.

’Isn’t that the alley where my house is?’

It was also where she and her family had hidden at the beginning of the apocalypse.

’Damn it, has my house been robbed?’

”What’s wrong?”

Fern Spencer asked.

”What’s your plan?”

Although the house in the old alley was uninhabited, she was sentimental about her old things.

If those people had really taken it over, she definitely had to go.

”You’ll do it?”

Fern Spencer had just been trying her luck.

It was for no other reason than that she had witnessed Claire Warner’s skills firsthand.

She wasn’t a Space Superpower User who could only store things.

”Actually, there are a few other female Space Superpower Users in the team who want to get revenge with me, but they don’t even have the ability to escape. Taking them would be like leading lambs to the slaughter.”

Fern Spencer confessed honestly.

This decision was a desperate gamble. She didn’t care about giving up the supplies; she just wanted to find the people from that day.

”Their days and nights are flipped. They party every night. Going during the day will let us catch them off guard. I have a few friends who are willing to go, but we’ll have to give them a share of the supplies.”

Fern Spencer thought Claire Warner was in it for the supplies, so she watched her expression as she spoke.

”No problem. The supplies can be shared. But I want all the Gold there.”

A place for eating, drinking, and merrymaking wouldn’t have that many supplies, even if it had some.

Fern Spencer hadn’t expected Claire Warner to be so agreeable. Her earlier sorrow and grief had already transformed into motivation. ”Then it’s settled! Tomorrow morning, my friends and I will wait for you here.”

”Okay.”

Her ”Facial Adjustment” Skill should be fine for a single morning.

Ever since the last system upgrade, her ”Facial Adjustment” Skill could be used continuously for five hours.

「The next day.」

What Nina Jacobs hadn’t expected at all was that the friends Fern Spencer mentioned were actually from ”Soul Slayer.”

”Warner, good morning.”

Caleb Carter hopped down from the vehicle.

With Caleb Carter were another man and a woman.

The two of them introduced their Superpowers.

The man was named Conor, an Earth Element Superpower User.

The woman was Lavinia Vaughn, a Wood Element Superpower User.

And Caleb Carter had a Gold Element Superpower.

”Hello.”

Nina Jacobs nodded. These people were all from ”Soul Slayer” and had bought supplies from her before, so she didn’t need to introduce herself at all.

”Today, we’re just borrowing your space, Warner. As for the ’rental fee’...”

Before they set out, Caleb Carter wanted to make things clear.

The reason they had planned today’s operation was that the Crawford Army had once stolen a truckload of their supplies.

They had only agreed to let Claire Warner join because they needed to use her space.

”I only want the Gold. You can split the rest among yourselves.”

”Also, I won’t reveal my identity.”

Nina Jacobs didn’t know what kind of grudge Caleb Carter had against those people.

The three parties were just in a cooperative relationship; not revealing their identities was fundamental.

”That’s easy. None of us want to reveal our identities. If worse comes to worst, we’ll just kill them all.”

What surprised Nina Jacobs a little was that Caleb Carter would actually say something like that.

It seemed the rumors from her past life—that Caleb Carter only killed zombies, not people—weren’t true.

”Should we use this?”

Fern Spencer took out a few boxes of sleeping pills, but how to drug them was a problem.

”Too much trouble. Isn’t it simpler to just turn them into zombies?”

Caleb Carter didn’t even glance at the medicine.
