After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 232: Chapter 232: Can You Give Me a Discount?

”What they want is a chance.”

Nina Jacobs was looking at Sabrina Hale and Leontine Hale sleeping soundly in their cradle.

Every time she looked at them, she had the illusion that she wasn’t living in the apocalypse.

”Nina still knows best. Your old-fashioned ideas were useless.”

Vera Coleman praised.

Daniel Hale had previously suggested helping those people rent a dormitory, and she had agreed.

But Wayne Abbott hadn’t agreed.

”I didn’t expect them to have so much pride.”

However, Daniel Hale was also worried the Crawford Army might make another move.

”Yeah, I’m feeling uneasy too.

That incident last time was suppressed, but I always feel like those people are up to no good. What if...”

Vera Coleman was referring to the time Nina Jacobs and the others had killed a few members of the Crawford Army in self-defense.

After Daniel Hale reported it, the base had already stepped in to resolve it.

The matter seemed to be over, but she was still worried.

”That’s why I let Wayne Abbott and his people move in.”

Nina Jacobs didn’t think Vera Coleman’s worries were unfounded.

She also believed Hugo Crawford wouldn’t let the matter drop.

”Don’t tell me you’re planning to...” Only then did Vera Coleman and Daniel Hale understand their daughter’s deeper meaning.

Wayne Abbott and his group already had a feud with the Crawford Army.

That meant they had a common enemy to deal with.

”One of Wayne Abbott and his group’s important responsibilities is to protect us.”

Nina Jacobs nodded in response.

Not just Daniel Hale and Vera Coleman.

But also her two younger sisters.

”They won’t dare pull any stunts inside the base,

but outside, no one can control them.

You all have to be careful.”

Daniel Hale hadn’t expected Nina Jacobs to have thought of everyone.

But from what he knew of Hugo Crawford, he was certain he wouldn’t dare let his own people cause trouble inside the base.

”Outside?”

Nina Jacobs smiled. ”They’d have to be capable enough first.”

...

Due to its special function, the Procurement and Management Department of the City D Base was located in a separate three-story office building connected to the warehouse.

Henry Dixon was covered in sweat by the time he emerged, having passed through the warehouse’s many checkpoints.

Although their offices were connected to the warehouse, to ensure the security of the supplies, entering the base warehouse from any entrance required passing through a full six checkpoints and fingerprint-secured doors.

Henry Dixon had no complaints about this.

He had even moved his home into his office, saying it was to better guard the warehouse.

”The higher-ups have finally agreed to prioritize electricity for the warehouse.”

Henry Dixon walked quickly; he still had a huge pile of documents to review.

”If the warehouse doesn’t get power soon, we really can’t guarantee the shelf life of the supplies.

Once the power is on, we can move forward with the cold storage warehouse.”

Lewis almost had to jog to keep up with Henry Dixon.

”You’re right. I just don’t know if this solar equipment will actually work...”

”By the way, did you just say someone was looking for me?”

Only then did Henry Dixon remember why Lewis had come running to find him.

”Yes, it’s someone I think you should see directly, sir.”

Lewis said mysteriously.

”Who wants to see me? Don’t tell me it’s another request for a supply allocation.”

Henry Dixon asked with a frown.

But when he saw the person waiting in his office, his eyes instantly lit up.

”Willow Warner?

It’s really you!”

Probably due to his excitement, Henry Dixon’s words were tinged with a thick accent, but Nina Jacobs just smiled.

”It’s me. How have you been lately?”

This was also Nina Jacobs’s first time visiting the new base’s Procurement and Management Department.

She discovered it was mostly managed by smart systems; the number of staff could be described as scarce.

She had heard that after the base was built, this was the first place to receive a limited power supply.

This was done to run the base’s warehouse management system.

”Good, good, very good.”

Henry Dixon quickly told Lewis to pour some tea while he pulled Nina Jacobs over to a seat.

”Why do I feel even better after seeing you?

Hahaha.”

Henry Dixon laughed heartily, as if he weren’t the same calculating person from before.

”I dreamed about you after I came to the base.

Guess what I dreamed?”

Henry Dixon found it a bit funny himself.

He actually dreamed that Claire Warner had saved his life.

”It must be because I missed you so much, young lady.

The shelter only moved supplies on the second day, there weren’t any people! Hahaha!”

Nina Jacobs smiled after hearing this. ”Since you’ve missed me so much, Mr. Dixon, you’ll have to go easy on me when we do business later.”

Upon hearing this, Henry Dixon was instantly and pleasantly surprised:

”You have new goods?”

”Yes, I’ve acquired some.

But some of them are short-shelf-life items, and I’m afraid some may have already expired.

Others are about to expire, so...”

Nina Jacobs said frankly.

Supplies stored in her inventory space naturally wouldn’t expire, but the packaging on many short-shelf-life foods showed they were past their expiration dates.

Rather than explaining it to customers every time at the convenience store, it was better to just hand it all over to the base to handle.

”No problem, no problem at all! In this day and age, who cares about expiration dates?

As long as it doesn’t kill you, it’s fine!”

Henry Dixon believed that expired food just didn’t taste as good; it wasn’t inedible.

Besides, how many people were starving and couldn’t get anything to eat?

However, Henry Dixon naturally wouldn’t pass up this golden opportunity:

”Since we go way back, do you think you could give me a bit of a discount?”

Nina Jacobs feigned difficulty. ”A discount... of course, that’s possible. But I’d like to ask you about someone.”

”A person?

That’s easy, easy.

People aren’t worth much these days. Supplies are what’s valuable.”

Henry Dixon was also curious about who Claire Warner wanted to ask about.

”Someone named Tina Sullivan.”

The person at Superpower User registration window #3 in the shelter was Tina Sullivan.

She was also the contact Blondie Keith Dempsey at the convenience store had told her to find after getting the medicine.

Nina Jacobs had originally wanted to ask Adrian Shaw to help investigate this person.

But she felt it would be more convenient to investigate using Claire Warner’s identity.

And by a greater coincidence, this Tina Sullivan was now working right here in the Procurement and Management Department.

”Tina Sullivan? I think she’s a statistician the base assigned over a while ago.

Why do you ask about her?”

There weren’t many people in the department, so Henry Dixon still remembered the name.

”It’s nothing. I just heard some things before and got a little curious about her.”

Nina Jacobs said.

”That’s easy. I’ll have Lewis pull up all her files for you later.”

Henry Dixon was already eager to see what goods were available for trade.

Nina Jacobs didn’t delay any further and directly took out a pre-prepared list.

The list was printed from her printer and included information like quantities, prices, and discounts.

Looking at the long list, Henry Dixon immediately started writing an application.

”The last application was personally approved by the base commander.

This time, it goes through that Shaw guy. Who knows how long we’ll have to wait!”

Henry Dixon specifically called for Daisy Dixon, a Speed System Superpower User who was also his daughter, to deliver the application file.

”Roger that. Mission accepted.”

The moment Daisy Dixon finished speaking, she dashed out of the office.

”The one named Shaw?” Claire Warner feigned ignorance.

”A fellow named Adrian Shaw. He’s a real pain, has to get to the bottom of everything.”

Henry Dixon pursed his lips.

He got a headache just thinking about Adrian Shaw.

Sure enough, not even ten minutes later, Adrian Shaw arrived at the Procurement and Management Department in person, holding the application.

”You’re Claire Warner? The Space Element Superpower User who runs the convenience store?”
