Chapter 424: Chapter 185: The Victory Shakes the Court! Rewards and Honors!

Zhao Gao immediately bent over and took the battle report.

Then he turned around, walked up the steps, opened the battle report, and read aloud: ”Military Sima Kuai Pu of the Great Qin’s Wuan Camp reports!”

”Following the royal edict, Wuan Camp moved against the Wei state on the scheduled date.”

”The entire camp launched an attack on the Wei state.”

”In half a day, annihilated the stationed 5,000 troops and all sentries of the Wei border.”

”Approaching Yanggao City.”

”General Zhao Feng ordered the city attack, employing Qin’s warfare tactics to shower the city with arrows, suppressing the Wei army.”

”For half an hour, the rain of arrows bathed the city in blood. General Zhao Feng personally led the vanguard to attack the city, seizing Yanggao City and engaging in fierce battle within a day.”

”Meanwhile.”

”The Wei army filled Yanggao with incendiaries, ready to set the city on fire as soon as our Qin soldiers fully entered, preventing retreat.”

”General Zhao Feng foresaw this strategy and, upon capturing the outer city, led his troops away from Yanggao City. Just then, the Wei army ignited the flames, engulfing the city in a great fire.”

”Under the final blaze, over a hundred thousand Wei soldiers and civilians perished in the flames. Wei General Long Zhang led his troops out of the city, intending to raid our camp, but General Zhao Feng had already ordered the Cavalry Camp to encircle and finally secure victory.”

”The 150,000 Wei troops stationed at Yanggao City were completely annihilated by our Qin’s Wuan Camp.”

”Our Wuan Camp suffered less than 30,000 casualties, with 8,000 dead and over 20,000 injured.”

”A great victory over the Wei army.”

Though Zhao Gao’s voice was hoarse, it was very loud.

This achievement of the Wuan Camp spread throughout the entire court.

Upon hearing this result.

The entire court fell silent.

It seemed that no one could have imagined such an achievement could be accomplished in just three short days.

The 150,000 Wei troops were thus reduced to ashes!

Moreover.

This strategy of burning the city was anticipated in advance by Zhao Feng; otherwise, the consequence would have undoubtedly been tens of thousands of Qin casualties.

”Did Zhao Feng really capture Yanggao City in just three days? Was the Wei state this weak?”

”Damn it, if the credit for this destruction of Wei falls on Zhao Feng again, he’ll become unstoppable. His military achievements will surpass other Generals, meaning the future position of Grand Commandant could very likely be his.”

”No, we can’t let this continue.”

”Otherwise, if Zhao Feng really ascends to the position of Grand Commandant one day, it would indeed be a disaster.”

Wang Wan and Huai Zhuang were both deeply disturbed.

Before this battle report arrived, they spoke highly of Huan Yi, laying the groundwork to have all the credit attributed to Huan Yi if he were the first to breach the city.

After all, the destruction of Wei involved two camps, two battlefronts, but ultimately the goal was to obliterate the Wei state.

With a national war strategy, a single action could affect the entire situation.

If Huan Yi were the first to breach the city, the Wei state would inevitably reorganize its defenses, and even if Zhao Feng breached the city later, his achievements could not surpass Huan Yi’s. Wang Wan and others could use this to diminish Zhao Feng’s accomplishments, and use it against him even if he eventually captured Wei’s capital.

But the current situation was completely contrary to their expectations.

Zhao Feng, having first breached the border city, had gained the advantage.

As the court calmed for a moment.

Yu Liao was the first to speak: ”As expected of General Zhao Feng, his ability to command troops and anticipate enemy strategies is unmatched. In just three days, 150,000 Wei troops were reduced to ashes—a truly unparalleled general of our Great Qin.”

”Indeed.”

”With Yanggao City breached, the Prefecture Soldiers of the Wei state are definitely unable to halt the advance of the Wuan Camp. Perhaps within a month or two, General Zhao Feng could reach the Capital of Wei, Daliang,” Li Si laughed, echoing the sentiment.

”Congratulations to the Great King.”

”Wuan Camp’s achievement in just three short days is a cause for celebration for both the Great King and the Qin state.”

”The destruction of Wei is imminent.”

”We congratulate the Great King.”

”Long live the Great King, long live the Qin state...”

The court was filled with sounds of congratulations.

Ying Zheng’s face also bore a joyful smile, a stark contrast to his previous calm demeanor. Now, his smile was unrestrained.

”Zhao Feng has indeed truly surprised me.”

”Back during the destruction of Zhao, the Wei state had already been wary of our Qin, and Wei Wuji had even mobilized the nation’s strength to recruit and strengthen the army.”

”Even with 150,000 troops, it would generally take ten days to half a month of continuous attacks to annihilate them.”

”Yet Zhao Feng has wiped out all 150,000 Wei troops in just three days.”

”His military achievements, without a doubt.”

”This is undoubtedly the first merit in attacking Wei,” Ying Zheng stated to the gathered civil and military officials.

This statement.

Rendered all of Wang Wan’s previous arguments null and laid all the praise just given onto Zhao Feng’s shoulders.

”The Great King is wise.”

”Wuan Camp’s foremost breach of the Wei defense line has the potential to influence the entire Wei state campaign, and this is a significant achievement deserving considerable reward,” Li Si immediately stood up in agreement.

Now that Zhao Feng had achieved such significant merit, his son naturally also achieved merit in the Wuan Camp.

Li Si naturally chose to speak in favor of the Wuan Camp.

”Indeed.”

Ying Zheng also responded loudly.

Without waiting for the ministers to collect themselves, Ying Zheng waved his hand mightily and proclaimed, ”Draft an edict!”

”General Zhao Feng of Wuan, led troops to breach the Wei state’s border, annihilated 150,000 enemy troops, and significantly weakened the Wei state—thereby causing the collapse of the Wei defense line, a major achievement.”

”Now.”

”Bestow upon Zhao Feng an elevation in rank by one level, conferred as [Shao Shangzao].”

”Grant a thousand gold, ten thousand coins, a hundred pieces of jade artifact, and five hundred servants.”

Ying Zheng’s voice resounded throughout the court.

This sudden turn of events.

No one anticipated that Ying Zheng would unexpectedly and directly bestow a promotion in rank.

The rank elevated to Shao Shangzao, the fifteenth rank!
