Longevity by Picking up Attributes in the Battlefield

Chapter 420: Chapter 183: Long-Awaited Attribute Pickup! (Part 3)

”One hundred thousand troops, all maintain the original defensive posture, oversee each other’s battle. Those who dare retreat shall be executed on the spot.” Long Zhang immediately ordered.

”I receive the order.” A Wei General quickly withdrew to convey the command.

After this Wei General left.

Long Zhang turned his head and said to a leader behind him: ”Convey my command, fifty thousand elite soldiers orderly withdraw from Yanggao City, a thousand Dead Soldiers infiltrate various parts of the city, once the Qin Army penetrates deeply and thoroughly breaks the defense line, set the city ablaze at once.”

”Yes.”

The Wei General behind him bowed and immediately withdrew.

”One hundred thousand New Army.”

”The people in the city.”

”Don’t blame me.”

”For the sake of Wei, every sacrifice is worth it.”

”This is also the final gamble for our Wei.” A trace of resoluteness appeared on Long Zhang’s face.

This strategy was personally arranged by Wei Wuji, the master of Wei State.

Upon receiving the military order, Long Zhang tried to argue against implementing this strategy, but Wei Wuji only said one sentence, if sacrificing hundreds of thousands can ensure Wei’s eternal existence, everything is worth it, even if it means sacrificing his own life, that too is worth it.

Time passed!

The sounds of attack and killing continued within Yanggao City.

Countless Qin Soldiers charged through the city gates, launching a frenzied assault and slaughter.

Under Long Zhang’s orders, the Wei Army also fought with all their might, but their defeat was already apparent.

Half a day passed.

A day passed.

By nightfall.

The sound of slaughter slightly subsided, but the battle continued.

The entire Yanggao City had become a mountain of corpses, a sea of blood, bodies lay everywhere, and crippled soldiers writhed in agony amidst pools of blood; the stench of blood engulfed the entire city.

The slaughter continued from night to almost dawn.

Under the originally pitch-dark night, a faint glow had already risen.

At this moment.

”Time’s up, General Long commands.”

”Set the city on fire.”

In the shadows of Yanggao City, voices spread out by the thousands.

As the time came.

They quickly took out firesticks, lighting what seemed to be pre-prepared straw along with spirit and fire oil.

Soon.

Blazing fires erupted in various parts of Yanggao City, and quickly spread throughout the city.

However.

Just as they lit the flames.

Many Qin Soldiers attacking raised their heads to glance at the sky.

Then.

Almost simultaneously.

They began to retreat orderly from Yanggao City.

Came swiftly, retreated just as swiftly.

Only that.

While retreating, many Qin Sharp Soldiers quickly lifted their injured and fallen Pao Ze comrades, retreating backwards.

”Wei Wuji.”

”Long Zhang.”

”Attempting to trade a city for the lives of my Wanjiang soldiers, though your schemes are clever, I have already seen through them.”

”Let you personally incinerate the Wei Soldiers within this city.”

At the frontline.

Zhao Feng glanced dismissively at the retreating and fleeing Wei Soldiers, having no intention to linger in battle.

Though the idea of collecting attributes was greatly tempting to Zhao Feng.

But compared to the lives of his subordinates, Zhao Feng chose the latter.

Wei Wuji had been preparing for a long time for the Qin’s invasion, having decided to sacrifice many Wei Soldiers in the city for mutual destruction, inflicting heavy losses on Qin, he surely was well-prepared, and it wouldn’t be long before this Yanggao City turns into a sea of flames. If they did not seize the moment when the fire was yet to rise to retreat, it would be impossible to withdraw once the blaze intensified.

In the end.

Less than one out of ten of all Qin Soldiers who entered the city managed to escape.

As Shangjiangjun, besides securing victory, it was also about letting his subordinates survive as much as possible.

Time passed!

In less than an hour.

The original Yanggao City had already ignited fierce fires all over, and the fire rapidly spread, with numerous flammable materials accumulated in various parts of the city, catching fire instantly.

”How did the fire start?”

”Why did it suddenly catch fire?”

”Not good, the fire is spreading.”

”Quickly, escape.”

”Ah... help me, save me...”

”Quickly escape to the back of the city, hurry... the fire is spreading, more than half the city is ablaze.”

”Hurry up...”

As the fire spread.

The entire city was engulfed in desperate and shrill screams.

Not just one, but the wails echoed throughout the city.

Few could endure the pain of being scorched by flames.

Countless Wei Soldiers were torched into human flames, frenziedly struggling to flee, but to no avail.

Even at the rear city gates of Yanggao City.

Crammed with countless fleeing Wei Soldiers.

”Open the gates, quickly open the gates.”

”Let us out.”

”Let us out.”

”The fire is coming.”

”Hurry up...”

Countless Wei Soldiers pressed towards the gates, packed tightly together, all seeking to escape the purgatory of the burning flames.

But the city gates were completely sealed.

And with everyone packed together, escape was utterly impossible.

Outside the rear city of Yanggao.

The intense screams, wails, and cries of despair transmitted from within the city.

Did not sway Long Zhang.

Even though the Wei General behind him felt some reluctance, there was no changing it, much of it was an unavoidable fate.

Long Zhang, on horseback, wore no expression on his face, coldly observing as Yanggao City was completely enveloped in flames.

Thick black smoke billowed into the sky, covering the heavenly vault with a pall of gloom.

Within the acrid black smoke was not only the pungency of smoke but also a scent of burning meat, one could imagine how many lives were snuffed by this inferno.

”The master’s scheme.”

”Succeeded.”

”The Qin Army completely entered the city, even Zhao Feng is within.”

”This inferno.”

”Will at least incinerate two hundred thousand Qin Soldiers.”

”Qin’s Wu’an Military Camp, ruined.”

”Our Wei’s National Fortune, preserved.”

”Once this fire ends.”

”I may lead fifty thousand elites into the Qin Territory, counterattacking Qin.”

”As long as the counterattack starts.”

”Chu State will not sit idly by, they will surely send troops against Qin.”

”In a sudden move, spurred by Chu State’s attack, Qi and Yan will also want a piece.”

”Qin, no longer fearsome.”

”What the master schemed, not only averts Wei’s doom, but also revives Wei.” At this moment, Long Zhang felt an indescribable excitement within his heart.
