I Was Written as Cannon Fodder, Now I'm Rewriting the Genre

On the afternoon of August 2nd, Bai Qiang had just put on a face mask and turned on the TV to binge-watch a show when a figure suddenly appeared behind the sofa. It startled her so badly that her mask cracked, and she instantly hurled the remote control in her hand.

The remote was caught. Only then did Bai Qiang see clearly that it was Yin Zhen, who was surprisingly carrying a box of yogurt and a durian.

Bai Qiang snatched the mask off her face, rolling her eyes so hard they practically reached the ceiling. ”Are you intentionally trying to piss me off?”

Yin Zhen set the things down. ”There are special agents around your house. Three teams, six people.”

At the mention of this, Bai Qiang gnashed her teeth in anger. That Shen Qing still suspected she had contact with Blossoming Prosperity, and he sent people to monitor her every day.

What use was surveillance? The person was right here in her house. What could he do about it?

”Make yourself at home. I’m going to wash my face.”

When Bai Qiang came out after washing her face, she saw Yin Zhen sitting on the sofa, playing with that round throw pillow.

”My cat also likes to play with that. Unfortunately, the little guy abandoned me and hasn’t come home for days.”

Hearing this, Yin Zhen silently put down the round pillow.

”Right, don’t you have hacking abilities? Help me check the surveillance and find my cat.”

”It’s not convenient.”

”Why? I have a computer right here. You could find my home address, so finding a cat shouldn’t be hard, right?”

”I started using my Extraordinary Ability to evade surveillance from five kilometers away. My Assimilation Degree has reached the warning line,” Yin Zhen said solemnly.

Bai Qiang narrowed her eyes. Excuses!

”Fine. Did you go to Sea City to find Ian? Is there still fallout from Chi Hai?”

Bai Qiang took a bottle of cola from the small fridge next to the sofa and handed it to Yin Zhen.

Yin Zhen took the cola. ”Yes, I saw him.”

”Huh?” Bai Qiang was shocked.

Yin Zhen added, ”When I went there, the Yi Family was preparing to host the child’s full-moon banquet in a couple of days. The patriarch wanted to name the child ’Yi Zhi’, symbolizing the end of war and conflict. I used my Extraordinary Ability to disguise myself as a fortune-teller and convinced him that the character ’Zhi’ was unlucky. I told him to change it to ’Ming’, making it Yi Ming, which means Yi Tian changing fate.”

To accomplish this, Yin Zhen even specifically had Lucy help her find a famous and genuinely capable Yin Yang Master in Sea City. She obtained that Yin Yang Master’s blood to mimic him and trigger memory resonance.

Armed with professional knowledge and a professional appearance, she finally managed to convince the Yi Family’s patriarch. She even made a point to emphasize two things to him: studying medicine couldn’t save the Huaxia people, and the heritage of Chinese Martial Arts shouldn’t be passed down to foreigners.

Later on, when the patriarch encountered the real Yin Yang Master and realized the man had never actually visited his home, he wouldn’t feel deceived. Instead, he would become even more deeply convinced of the things she had said.

Before leaving, Yin Zhen even hugged the child. He did indeed look like Yi Zhi. Zoe was also very happy to see him, which could be considered fulfilling a lingering wish.

Bai Qiang wore an expression that said, ”You’re really something.”

”So this matter is completely settled, then?” Bai Qiang asked.

”Perhaps. I’ve plugged all the loopholes I could think of. As for the rest, we’ll see in twenty years.”

Bai Qiang nodded. ”Then tell me. What did you want to talk to me about?”

Yin Zhen told Bai Qiang about logging in early, and also explained the various pros and cons of teaming up with her.

Bai Qiang accepted the twenty-five attribute points Yin Zhen offered her with complete peace of mind, and then noticed Yin Zhen visibly sigh in relief.

Bai Qiang understood Yin Zhen’s mindset. If she didn’t ask for anything, Yin Zhen would only think she wanted more or planned to use the favor to demand a bigger repayment later.

A great favor becoming a great enmity was sometimes formed from this exact mentality. The benefactor sought no return, leaving the beneficiary feeling uneasy. In the end, endless suspicion would cause them to turn against each other.

Bai Qiang wouldn’t do that. Not only did she generously accept what Yin Zhen gave her, but she would also actively ask for things—and keep asking!

”I can go with you, but you can’t just leave me to fend for myself. Right now, I have no Talent, no Title, and no Items. I’m completely empty-handed. My spiritual power is my only strength. If there’s danger, you have to stand in front of me.”

”I have two Items here. Take them for now. The rule for entering this dungeon is that each person can only bring three Items.”

Saying she would give two, Yin Zhen actually took out three.

One was the Game Backpack (Small), making it convenient for Bai Qiang to put her Final Curtain inside and then bring two things back from Ancient Abyss. This kind of nesting trick would only count as a single Item.

The other two Items were ’I am headstrong’, which could turn a head into a Weapon, and ’I want to go to the toilet’, which could teleport the user to a nearby bathroom.

After reading the Explanation for the latter two Items, Bai Qiang scrunched up her face. ”Why are your Items so abstract?”

”My system has a rather twisted sense of humor. It’s always been this style.”

Bai Qiang’s eyes flickered. Yin Zhen’s subtext was that everyone’s system was different. So that was how it worked?

Yin Zhen sent Bai Qiang a team invite and used her captain’s authority to gift the twenty-five attribute points to her.

”Then when are we heading out?”

Bai Qiang checked the time. ”I have to go to my teacher’s house for dinner tonight. For this dungeon, do we have to be physically together to enter, or is it enough just to be in a team?”

”Being in a team is enough,” Yin Zhen said.

”Then let’s do tomorrow night at ten. I’ll handle some work matters tomorrow. I haven’t been to work in a long time, and the hospital has been calling me. I plan to resign tomorrow and just open a private clinic instead.”

”There’s one more thing,” Yin Zhen paused. ”When we killed Quentin and the Black Domain Walker last time, I also accepted a mission, but I took five million from you. This money...”

Before Yin Zhen could finish, Bai Qiang waved her hand. ”That money isn’t mine. It’s... I got it from the authorities. You can keep it with peace of mind. You killed Quentin and the Black Domain Walker and resolved the crisis in Guan City. The authorities should give you this reward. Not only did you get one, but I did too. Otherwise, why do you think I have the confidence to open a private clinic?”

Yin Zhen nodded and stood up. ”Alright, I’ll take my leave first, then.”

”Wait, help me find my cat when you have time. I’ll send a photo to your phone later.”

Yin Zhen replied stiffly, ”Okay, I’ll try my best.”

”If you find it, remember to bring it to my house!” Bai Qiang demanded with absolute righteousness, while Yin Zhen hurriedly fled.

Yin Zhen returned home. As soon as she opened the door, she saw a sweeping robot planted at the entrance, emitting a mechanical voice at her.

”Welcome home. The living room lights have been turned on for you, and the air conditioner is set to twenty-four degrees. Do you need to eat? I can order takeout for you.”

Yin Zhen felt dazed. If her house hadn’t still looked old and worn out, she would have thought she had returned to Chi Hai.

The sound of an electric drill came from the bedroom. Yin Zhen walked over and saw tiny Lucy standing on a ladder. Wearing dust-covered denim overalls and a peaked cap pulled over her head, she was currently drilling a hole into the wall with an electric drill.

”What are you doing?”

Ying also stood up from the floor, resting one hand on his hip while scratching his head with the other.

Lucy replied, ”I need to install a sensor here so that when you get up at night, the bathroom light will automatically turn on for you.”

Yin Zhen was somewhat speechless. ”Lucy, I’m not so lazy that I don’t even want to turn on the lights myself.”

Lucy continued, ”This is the convenience brought by technology. It has nothing to do with laziness. I also need to use this sensor to record your sleep patterns and analyze your health levels. Your health is closely related to my safety, so this is a very important matter to me. The infrastructure in Ancient Abyss is too backward. I still have a lot of things to do, so please don’t disturb me.”

The sound of the drill started up again, sending dust flying everywhere.

Lucy drilled forcefully as she spoke loudly, ”I’m a bit overwhelmed here. If you could provide me with a workshop and enough components, I could modify some common household appliances on the market into housekeeping robots. Then you would have more time to strengthen yourself and do more meaningful things.”

The drill sound came to an abrupt halt. Lucy looked down and found that Yin Zhen had unplugged her drill.

”Come down, Lucy. You want a workshop, right? You want a big villa, right? I’ll buy them. I’ll go buy them tomorrow. Just stop tormenting my old house.”
