I Was Written as Cannon Fodder, Now I'm Rewriting the Genre

Yin Zhen handed the prepared explosives to Zoe. Since she currently lacked the ability to teleport, Zoe—who could transform into a stream of water—could reach the culture tank much faster than she could. Zoe could also escape quickly after planting the explosives.

This was the division of labor they had agreed upon in Ancient Abyss. Now, she had to go retrieve Lucy.

Just as the enraged Dracula struck out at Lucy once more, Yin Zhen decisively activated her Title Skills.

Dracula shuddered. The Blood Bone Thorns he had just condensed collapsed into a bloody light. He roared furiously at Lucy.

”Why aren’t you dead yet!!”

Zoe, in her water-stream form, rushed to the culture tank and attached the explosives to the thick glass.

Lilith’s spiritual power transformed into a silver-white frenzy, indiscriminately crushing toward the culture tank.

She no longer cared about elegance or composure. That bloody brain was the last remaining piece of Chi Hai, the root of her Strength. No one was allowed to touch it.

”Lilith, give us a smile!”

Adeline stood behind Lilith, holding up a pitch-black parasol. At her side was an ultra-high-power ultraviolet array lamp. Trouble and the other three also held up two parasols.

Having inherited the protagonist’s halo, Adeline came with ten inventory slots, which was more than enough to bring all this equipment.

”Turn on the lights!”

Quit Game slapped his hand down on the switch.

The intense ultraviolet light slammed into Lilith like a physical wall. She let out a miserable shriek unlike anything anyone had ever heard from her; she had never experienced the sensation of being severely burned by sunlight. Under the continuous irradiation of the UV light, her spiritual power shield curled and melted like plastic wrap in a fire, scorching several patches of her long, curly platinum-blonde hair in the process.

Zoe rapidly retreated from the culture tank in her water form, bringing Yin Zhen and Ian’s corpse along with her.

At this moment, Yin Zhen pressed the detonator switch for the explosives.

BOOM—

The shockwave of the explosion lifted a whole layer of ruins off the laboratory floor. Debris battered fiercely against Dracula, forming a brief, sky-obscuring grayish-white mist around him before it was immediately pierced by an even more blinding purple light.

Dracula watched helplessly as massive amounts of nutrient fluid drained away, leaving the eerie yet somewhat sacred bloody brain completely exposed to the air.

Like a fish dragged up from the deep sea, it shriveled at a visible rate and began to mutate. Dense bloody sprouts grew from its folds, resembling countless wriggling worms desperately searching for the nutrients they needed to survive.

Adeline loaded a Golden Items bullet into her Final Curtain pistol. After the firelight and intense UV light settled, everyone raised their reloaded Weapons, aiming at the culture tank.

Yin Zhen and Zoe stood shoulder to shoulder. The muzzle of Night Song fired pitch-black bullets brimming with the Strength of the Inheritance, while Zoe’s pale golden water stream transformed into a spear.

”Take it down!” Trouble shouted, and a frantic barrage of bullets poured out.

Under this furious bombardment, the bloody brain was shot full of holes. Finally, with a loud BOOM, it exploded into a pool of bloody water.

The bloody water rapidly turned black, transforming into a puddle of foul-smelling putrid liquid. Mixing with the residual nutrient fluid leaking from the tank, it pooled into a bubbling black puddle on the floor.

”No, no, no, no—”

Dracula and Lilith let out horrified shrieks at the same time. Having lost the source of their Strength, their faces aged at a visible rate. Their scorched wounds could no longer heal, their hair fell out rapidly, and their bodies hunched and shrank. Even their teeth fell from their mouths, mixed with blood.

The group was in no rush to savor the joy of success; instead, they all checked their own bodies.

There were no changes. Their Extraordinary Ability was still there, their fangs were still there, their hearts were still dead and silent, and their bodies were still freezing cold.

They were still members of the Blood Clan!

Their Blood Clan bodies showed no sensation of reverting back to human form.

Yin Zhen’s heart began to sink. This entire process had gone far too smoothly, but she did not dare dwell on it, afraid of attracting misfortune.

Zoe looked at Ian’s corpse beside her. As if suddenly struck by a massive blow, she muttered to herself.

”So it’s true... The ending I saw is true. There’s no hope for this world at all. I will eventually lose everything, until I’m the only one left in this despairing world.”

Yin Zhen’s heart skipped a beat. She turned to look at Zoe. ”What are you talking about? What ending?”

Dracula’s hoarse roar interrupted their conversation.

The Blood Ancestor, who had aged so much he could barely stand, let out a dying roar. Using the last remaining traces of the Power of Red Corpse, he charged toward Yin Zhen and Zoe.
