I Was Written as Cannon Fodder, Now I'm Rewriting the Genre

Chapter 124: Chapter 115: The 5th Transmigration

Zoe lay on the table, earnestly writing a letter of apology for losing her job and gaining ten pounds.

The two of them waited in this woman’s house for seven o’clock in the evening to arrive. If Zoe returned from here, she wouldn’t scare the person who would suddenly wake up.

Yin Zhen planned to head back to her own apartment ten minutes early. Her place had a robot vacuum equipped with a nail gun. It was safe!

Looking at her elegant handwriting, Zoe suddenly thought of Ian’s letter.

“May, Ian’s farewell letter was actually written to you, wasn’t it?” Zoe asked.

Sitting nearby, Yin Zhen’s heart skipped a beat, but she didn’t deny it. In truth, she had realized it back then.

“Zoe, I…”

“You don’t need to apologize,” Zoe interrupted. “You really don’t. I’m not saying this to blame you for anything, it’s just…”

Zoe recalled the contents of that letter. Every word was a love letter, and every sentence was written in her name, but at the end of those sentences wasn’t her name—it was Yin Zhen.

The person Ian wanted to take to the alley entrance for oyster omelets wasn’t her. She was just the letter’s recipient, not the person in the letter.

“When I first realized this, I was indeed a little angry, but only a tiny bit,” Zoe said, holding up her fingers to show a minuscule gap. “I wasn’t angry that he wrote the letter like that, nor was I angry that you lied to me. I was just upset that neither of you could just tell me directly. Am I really that petty in your eyes? But my anger faded after a few minutes. I thought about it, and if I were Ian—with the dangerous and charming you on one side, and a clueless experimental subject like me on the other—I would definitely be attracted to you too.

“Falling for you was Ian’s own choice, not the result of being manipulated by the plot. This actually made me feel that Ian had become more real. Of course, it’s not that I’m bad or unworthy, but rather that I think you are better and more deserving of being liked.

“Oh, I don’t even know what I’m saying! I just want to say, May, you are great. You don’t have to stand in the spotlight, nor do you have to hide in the shadows. You are perfectly fine just the way you are. You deserve to be liked by the whole world. Lucy likes you, Ying likes you, Ian likes you, and I like you too. You need to believe that you are worthy and stop denying our affection.”

“Alright, Zoe, let’s not talk about this anymore.” Yin Zhen’s cheeks felt a little hot.

“No, I want to finish. I’ve resonated with some people’s memories, so I actually have a rough idea of what love is. After you asked me last time, I thought about it carefully. What I feel for Ian isn’t love. It’s just that he was the first person to treat me well and teach me things, so I became dependent on him. And what he felt for me wasn’t love either. It was just because I was his long-awaited Weapon, and he wanted to protect me.”

Yin Zhen wanted to say that this was only because the storyline in Chi Hai hadn’t progressed yet. The two of them hadn’t gone through various events together, so their feelings hadn’t fermented.

“So May, please don’t feel sorry or guilty toward me because of this. You’ve really been incredibly good to me. You can like Ian, or you can choose not to like him. I just hope you both can be happy. As long as you’re happy, that’s enough for me, because the two of you are the people I want to protect the most in this world.”

Yin Zhen tucked her hair behind her ear, raised her hand to check her watch, and looked around the room.

“Are you blushing?” Zoe suddenly leaned in with a mischievous smile.

“No, I’m not. I’m just checking the time. I should head back.”

“But your face is so red, and you’re pretending to be busy.”

“I’m not. I really should get going. It’s fifteen minutes to seven.”

“Hehe, alright. I’ll let you off the hook. You head back first, I’ll see you in Chi Hai.”

Yin Zhen nodded and left. After walking downstairs, she fanned herself with her hand. July weather was truly too hot!

[00:03:00]

With three minutes left on the countdown, Yin Zhen had placed Lucy into her game inventory ahead of time, as she would need her help later.

CRAAACK!

A sudden clap of thunder exploded, and fierce winds made the windowpanes rattle and buzz. The sky outside abruptly turned blood-red, accompanied by screams echoing from various parts of the residential complex.

Yin Zhen had just stood up to look out the window when a sharp pain pierced her chest. She looked down to see blood blooming across her shirt. Something had traversed time and space to stab her right in the chest.

Meanwhile, in the Guan City Information Center conference room, Bai Qiang was doing a final review of the battle plan with Ma Fan and the others. Shen Qing sat across the long table with a dark expression.

A sudden crack of thunder interrupted Bai Qiang.

“Where did this strong wind come from? Why is the sky getting redder?”

The group noticed the sudden change in the sky outside, but they failed to notice Bai Qiang’s face turning deathly pale. Bai Qiang felt something trying to break through using her soul. There was no wind inside the conference room, yet the tips of her hair began to flutter. A fierce gale generated out of thin air around her body, sweeping up the documents on the table and knocking over coffee cups.

“Everyone, get back!”

BOOM!

The Strength that erupted from Bai Qiang shattered the glass and sent everything in the conference room flying. Ye Se grabbed Xian Yu by the back of her collar and hauled her into the corner, while Ma Fan immediately deployed a Spiritual Barrier to protect the others.

Inside the Gothic space of Bai Qiang’s mindscape, something reached over from the Chi Hai side. Like an invisible hand, it was forcefully pushing open that door, and the door was indeed pushed open a crack. A surge of Strength began to condense in front of Bai Qiang. Glowing with a silvery-white hue like moonlight, it swirled before her, forming a slender, spindle-like shape—much like a slowly opening portal.

Through that narrow rift, Ma Fan and the others stared in horror at the ruins of the laboratory in the Red Corpse World, catching sight of Lilith’s silhouette. The body of Adeline, which Bai Qiang possessed, shared a bloodline with Lilith. Therefore, Lilith had managed to force this passage open by leveraging the Strength of their bloodline and the connection between Bai Qiang and Adeline.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Shen Qing instantly drew his gun, firing three precise shots at the rift. However, the bullets sank into it as if hitting a quagmire, vanishing silently.

Gritting her teeth, Bai Qiang used her spiritual power to forcefully squeeze the expanding portal, trying to prevent it from fully forming. However, her spiritual power was clearly insufficient to resist it. Blood gushed from her nose and dripped onto the floor.

“U-Ultraviolet…” Bai Qiang squeezed out the words through her teeth.

Although Shen Qing, who was standing by the door, was older, his on-the-spot reaction speed was faster than anyone else’s. He immediately grabbed the ultraviolet device from the corner of the conference room, aimed the light tube at Bai Qiang, and flicked the switch! The Information Center was Guan City’s strategic hub for counterattacking the Blood Clan invaders. Whenever anyone came to work, they had to pass under UV lights at least once. Such equipment was installed all over the facility to ensure no Blood Clan members could infiltrate the center.

The moment the purple light illuminated, the rift shuddered. Bai Qiang felt the pressure ease up slightly, but the entity on the other side didn’t give up and continued its relentless attempts.

The others stared nervously at the countdown, fully prepared to launch into battle the second they crossed over. Although they had anticipated that Lilith and her forces might tamper with time, actually witnessing this scene still dealt them a massive shock. If they failed to eliminate Lilith and her cohorts this time, Ancient Abyss would truly be in peril.

Finally!

[00:00:00]

[Countdown finished. Time in this world is frozen.]

[Welcome to the Red Corpse World.]
