The Frail Guide Who Devoured an Entire Pollution Zone

Chapter 186: Chapter 186: Save Someone!

Meng Donghua’s eyes widened. Even now, he had no idea what he had done wrong to earn such a cold, glaring look from Lu Jingyu. But who could blame him? He naturally felt stifled by his captain’s overwhelming presence and simply couldn’t handle his icy glares. If he didn’t resolve this, he would constantly feel a chill down his spine, dreading that terrible luck would strike him at any moment.

He had been at a total loss for how to fix the situation! But didn’t the captain’s words just hand him the perfect opportunity? As he understood it, as long as he handled the assigned task perfectly, his previous offenses would be wiped clean.

Meng Donghua’s eyes lit up. He nodded frantically and said, ”Don’t worry, Captain. I’ll definitely take good care of Guide Xu.”

Recalling Lu Jingyu’s instructions, Meng Donghua instinctively glanced at Shen Yan and suddenly understood everything. Wasn’t this guy taking advantage of their captain’s lady? It couldn’t be helped during the mental guidance, but now that it was over, he absolutely couldn’t let anyone take advantage of her anymore.

”Now that it’s over, I’ll take over right away. I absolutely won’t let him take advantage of your lady!”

Even back in Zone 9, many of the team members had already treated Xu Qingsui as their captain’s wife. However, thinking it was one thing; they rarely brought it out into the open, especially not right in front of the people involved. Hearing Meng Donghua refer to Xu Qingsui as his lady right to his face instantly improved Lu Jingyu’s mood. He suddenly found Meng Donghua much more pleasing to the eye, and the icy glare in his eyes faded considerably.

”Keep a close eye on them!” After tossing out one final instruction, Lu Jingyu finally charged toward the Mutants with a satisfied expression.

Meng Donghua’s mood brightened as well. He kept a vigilant watch on their surroundings while paying close attention to Xu Qingsui and Shen Yan. He had to handle this task flawlessly. Otherwise, just the memory of Lu Jingyu’s icy glare was enough to send shivers down his spine.

Coincidentally, right after Lu Jingyu left, Xu Qingsui opened her eyes. Seeing this, Meng Donghua immediately stepped forward. Under Xu Qingsui’s bewildered gaze, he took Shen Yan from her arms.

”You’ve worked hard, Guide Xu. I’ll support Boss Shen. The situation here hasn’t been brought fully under control yet. Just to be safe, let me escort you outside to lay low!”

His captain’s intention was to stop Boss Shen from taking advantage of Guide Xu. So, by keeping the two of them far apart, he was definitely over-delivering on his mission.

Recovering her senses, Xu Qingsui first quickly scanned her surroundings. Earlier, because of Shen Yan’s berserk state and indiscriminate killing, the Survival Team members and the Mutants had all scattered in every direction to take cover. Now that the issue with Shen Yan had been resolved, the Mutants no longer sensed the immediate threat and resumed their attacks on the team members.

Although Lu Jingyu and his squad had joined the fray, the sheer number of Mutants was simply too overwhelming. The members of the 27th District Survival Team were still struggling to fend them off.

The thought of the Survival Team caused Xu Qingsui’s expression to change drastically. She immediately turned and peered toward the outside, frantically searching for someone. When her gaze landed on Chu Tian—who was looking in their direction and preparing to come over—she urgently said, ”Let’s go! We need to get out first!”

Without another word, Xu Qingsui took the lead and walked briskly toward Chu Tian. Meng Donghua silently followed behind, supporting Shen Yan.

Seeing Xu Qingsui heading his way, Chu Tian quickened his pace. ”Guide Xu, how is our boss?” His face was etched with anxiety as he constantly shot glances behind her at Shen Yan.

Her brows furrowed, Xu Qingsui grabbed Chu Tian by the arm and pulled him outward. ”He’s fine now, but... we’ll talk once we’re outside!” She hesitated, swallowing the rest of her words, and dragged him along without waiting for his consent.

Left with no choice, Chu Tian let himself be pulled along, though he kept craning his neck to look back at Shen Yan.

Once they left the laboratory building, many of the people who had fled outside saw that Shen Yan was no longer a threat and began heading back inside. Furthermore, a constant stream of people continued to surge toward the area.

”Have the medical staff arrived yet?” The moment they were outside, Xu Qingsui grabbed a random passerby and shouted.

The person was momentarily stunned. After a quick glance at Chu Tian behind her, they immediately turned around and yelled, ”We have injured people over here!”

Soon, several medics came rushing over with their medical kits. Seeing Xu Qingsui so desperately calling for doctors, Chu Tian’s eyes widened in alarm. ”Guide Xu, didn’t you say the boss was fine? Where is he hurt?”

Overwhelmed with panic, Chu Tian immediately tried to wrench his arm free from Xu Qingsui’s grip to check on Shen Yan’s condition. Xu Qingsui furrowed her brow and gripped his arm even tighter.

Chu Tian grew increasingly frantic. At that moment, the medics arrived, but instead of tending to Shen Yan, they surrounded Chu Tian.

Seeing the medics coming for him, Chu Tian’s eyes practically bulged out of his head. ”You’ve got the wrong guy! I’m fine. Hurry up and check on the boss!”

Chu Tian bellowed at the top of his lungs, but no one responded to him. The medics encircled him with grave expressions. Seeing that the doctors were in position, Xu Qingsui finally let go of Chu Tian’s hand and silently stepped aside.

Meanwhile, Meng Donghua had also noticed the commotion. As his gaze swept over Chu Tian, he froze slightly. He promptly handed Shen Yan over to the personnel from the 27th District and silently moved to stand beside Xu Qingsui.

”What are you doing? I’m not hurt. Go check on the boss! Stop wasting time on me!” Chu Tian yelled with booming vitality, continuously clamoring and struggling as he tried to rush to Shen Yan’s side.

But the medics kept a firm hold on him, examining and fiddling with his face. After a long moment, one of the medical staff stepped back, looked at Xu Qingsui, and slowly shook his head.

Xu Qingsui took a deep breath. She had already anticipated this outcome, but she had still wanted to hold onto a glimmer of hope.

At that point, the rest of the medics released their grip on Chu Tian. They stared at him in silence, a trace of sorrow spilling from their eyes. Sensing everyone’s gazes, the previously frantic Chu Tian suddenly calmed down.

He stared blankly at the people around him before his gaze finally settled on Xu Qingsui. ”Guide Xu, what’s wrong? Why are you all looking at me like that? I’m alive and kicking—I’m perfectly fine!”

Xu Qingsui’s heart sank. She had assumed that with so many people present, she wouldn’t have to be the one to break the news, but it seemed the grim task had fallen on her shoulders after all.

”Guide Xu, don’t scare me! Having all of you stare at me like this is making me more nervous than the riot earlier.”

”Captain Chu, when the incident happened just now, didn’t you feel that something was wrong?”

Chu Tian shook his head, his face a portrait of utter confusion. ”What’s wrong? Guide Xu, please don’t speak in riddles. What exactly happened?”

Xu Qingsui took a deep breath. She honestly had no idea how to say it, but confronted with Chu Tian’s desperate and pleading expression, she had no choice but to speak. ”Chu Tian, you are in very bad shape right now. I noticed it when we were outside earlier. Feel your own face.”

In truth, Xu Qingsui had already known the answer earlier, which was why she had chosen to prioritize saving the people inside first.
