The Frail Guide Who Devoured an Entire Pollution Zone

Chapter 183: Chapter 183: Laboratory Riot

Feeling the resentment in Lu Jingyu’s tone, Meng Donghua’s mouth twitched. He wished He Sheng were here right now so he could ask if the doctor had any potion that could instantly calm a person down. He would shove a vial straight down Lu Jingyu’s throat just to stop him from glaring at him like that.

Xu Qingsui cast a bewildered glance at Lu Jingyu. She wondered what was wrong with him. He had been perfectly fine a moment ago, but now he acted like he had swallowed gunpowder.

Seeing her look at Lu Jingyu, Meng Donghua seized the distraction like a lifeline and hurriedly said, ”Guide Xu, we’d like to find a place to grab a bite. Where’s the cafeteria here?”

Having busied herself for so long, Xu Qingsui was running on an empty stomach. Reminded of this by Meng Donghua, she quickly replied, ”I’ll take you there. I happen to be a little hungry myself.”

The group hastily thanked her and followed her to the cafeteria.

His chance to confess his feelings thoroughly ruined, Lu Jingyu’s face darkened. As he walked past Meng Donghua, he shot him a vicious glare. Meng Donghua shrank his neck, not daring to meet his gaze, and trailed behind dejectedly.

Walking beside Xu Qingsui, Lu Jingyu sighed silently. It seemed he would just have to find another opportunity. With the confession set aside for now, another matter came to mind.

”By the way, what’s the deal with Shen Yan? It seems like he can’t use his Frenzy Power freely.”

Earlier, when they shook hands, Lu Jingyu had gained the upper hand, but he knew the victory wasn’t genuine. Initially, both men had only used pure physical strength, resulting in a draw. Later, when Lu Jingyu took the initiative to tap into his Frenzy Power, Shen Yan should have matched him, given how fiercely they were competing. But he didn’t.

Lu Jingyu had also noticed the struggle in Shen Yan’s eyes, which gave him a clue about the man’s condition. Remembering it now, he decided to ask. If possible, he wanted to have a real match with Shen Yan and teach him a lesson so he’d stop harboring designs on Xu Qingsui.

Shen Yan’s situation was no secret in the 27th District, so Xu Qingsui didn’t hide it. ”His condition is a bit special. The Frenzy Factors in his body are incredibly active. There’s basically no transition period for him, so he rarely uses his Frenzy Power.”

Lu Jingyu raised an eyebrow. He had never heard of this before. It seemed it would be difficult to have a proper duel with Shen Yan after all.

As they talked, the group arrived at the cafeteria. Xu Qingsui was naturally the center of attention, and with the addition of so many unfamiliar faces, their group immediately drew everyone’s eyes. Eating under such heavy scrutiny was rather uncomfortable. The group kept their heads down, just wanting to finish quickly and leave.

But before they could finish, an alarm suddenly blared outside. Instantly, everyone looked out the windows, only to see the warning lights flashing along the streets. No one paid attention to Xu Qingsui’s group anymore; the crowd surged outside. For the warning lights across the entire laboratory complex to light up, something major must have happened.

Xu Qingsui and her companions exchanged glances, immediately put down their chopsticks, and followed the crowd.

Just as everyone was rushing out, a person squeezed inside, pushing against the flow of the crowd. His eyes frantically searched until they landed on Xu Qingsui. He hurried over to her.

”Guide Xu, something happened at the lab! Please come with me!”

Xu Qingsui paused in surprise. She hadn’t expected the incident to be at the laboratory. She nodded and gestured for the man to lead the way.

After squeezing out of the cafeteria, most people lingered on the streets, trying to figure out where the commotion was. Xu Qingsui’s group, however, didn’t dare slow down. As they rushed toward the lab, she asked, ”What exactly happened?”

”They made a discovery in the lab earlier and called the Boss over. But during the briefing, an accident occurred, triggering a riot among the test subjects inside...”

Since arriving here, Xu Qingsui had learned a bit about the situation. There were hundreds of test subjects locked in the laboratory. Moreover, many Mutants had undergone further mutations after being tested with drugs. The thought of a riot breaking out under these circumstances gave her a headache.

”Captain Chu has already led his team to suppress the berserk Mutants, but the scene is too chaotic. The conditions of these Mutants have changed again, and over a dozen team members have already been severely injured.

”Since the situation was spiraling out of control, the Boss stepped in as well. But you know his condition. He’s already taken multiple doses of medication, yet he’s still showing signs of going into a frenzy. I’m afraid...”

Before the man could finish, a deafening boom echoed from directly ahead of them. Immediately after, plumes of thick smoke billowed into the sky from the laboratory building.

Everyone froze in their tracks, staring blankly at the unfolding disaster. Xu Qingsui was the first to react, calling out to the group and snapping them out of their daze. She then charged toward the laboratory building, and the rest quickly followed suit.

After taking only a few steps, the smoke began to dissipate, revealing a figure hovering in mid-air. Despite the lingering haze, Xu Qingsui recognized him immediately as Shen Yan.

At this moment, a crimson aura radiated from his entire body. From a distance, it looked as though he was engulfed in flames. He hovered in the air for only a second before diving back down.

Xu Qingsui quickened her pace again. As she neared the laboratory building, she saw numerous team members fleeing for their lives from the entrance. Almost everyone bore injuries of varying severity. Among the chaotic crowd, some Mutants could even be seen scrambling out as if they, too, were running for their lives.

With a single glance, Xu Qingsui spotted Chu Tian amidst the throng. Unlike the others, he wasn’t fleeing; instead, he was staring anxiously into the building. She ran straight up to him. ”Captain Chu, what’s the situation now?”

Hearing her voice, Chu Tian turned around. Relief and excitement flooded his face the moment he saw her. ”Guide Xu, you’re finally here! Right now, you might be the only one who can control the situation.”

Xu Qingsui stared blankly at Chu Tian’s face, not saying a word.

”Guide Xu, the Boss has completely entered a frenzy! He’s inside indiscriminately slaughtering everything in sight. Several team members have already died at his hands! His threat level has far surpassed the Mutant riot! Please, you need to guide him as soon as possible!”

Xu Qingsui watched Chu Tian’s mouth move, but it was as if she couldn’t hear a single sound. Seeing no response, Chu Tian finally grabbed her shoulders and shook her violently to snap her back to reality.

”You—”

BOOM!

Just as Xu Qingsui regained her senses, but before she could speak, another deafening explosion erupted from behind.

Lu Jingyu dashed to her side in the nick of time, grabbing her and pulling her back several steps to dodge the flying debris.

When the smoke cleared, they finally saw the source of the crash: a frenzied Shen Yan had just hurled a Mutant straight into the wall.
