Fated to My Billionaire Husband

Li Mingxi turned back and gave her mother a brilliant smile. ”Mom, I’ve agreed to marry Li Qian. Are you happy?”

”...” For a moment Li’s mother couldn’t even tell what she was feeling. ”Have you really thought it through?”

”Isn’t this what you all wanted?”

”Mingxi, don’t be like this.” Li’s mother felt somewhat upset. ”We’re forcing you for your own good, but if you truly don’t want to, if you’re really that miserable, even if you get married, we won’t be happy.”

”Mom, I’m not miserable, really.”

”Then what about Xiao Lang? The one you like is Xiao Lang. You’re choosing Li Qian—doesn’t that make you feel bad at all?”

Li Mingxi smiled. ”Mom, who told you I like Xiao Lang?”

Anyone with eyes could see it...

”You don’t like him?”

”I used to. Now... I just want to find someone suitable to marry. Mom, it’s settled then. Li Qian is coming to visit you tomorrow, so you should be mentally prepared.”

After speaking, Li Mingxi continued to sway unsteadily as she walked upstairs.

When she stepped into her bedroom, she suddenly had a strong urge to sing.

Li Mingxi collapsed onto the bed and started belting out a song: ”Too bad it’s not you, the one who stayed with me till the end. We once walked together but lost each other at that crossroads. Thank you for being the one who held my hand, so I can still feel that tenderness...”

She used to really hate this kind of melodramatic little-girl sentimentality.

Only now did she understand that when you truly love someone, your emotions really can become very fragile.

Li Mingxi sang a few lines, then couldn’t go on.

She rolled over and lay on her stomach on the bed, sobbing.

Not long after, her phone rang. Li Mingxi didn’t want to answer, but the phone kept ringing very patiently.

Annoyed, she flung the phone away. The battery popped out, and the ringtone finally stopped.

Today, no matter who came looking for her, she didn’t want to deal with them.

...

”Sorry, the number you have dialed cannot be reached.”

Hearing the automated voice on the line, Xiao Lang pressed his lips together and set his phone down.

He rubbed his brow, then slumped forward over the steering wheel. He didn’t know if it was because he was too tired or what, but it was as if he’d fallen asleep.

Exhausted from crying, Li Mingxi also fell asleep.

The wind rose—

The windows were rattling and howling under the gusts.

Night had already fallen, and the wind was getting stronger and stronger. It looked like a heavy rain was coming.

”Rumble—”

It was the thunder that jolted Li Mingxi awake.

She opened her sore, aching eyes to find the room pitch-black.

”Rumble—”

The thunder grew louder and louder, filling people with a sense of dread.

Li Mingxi switched on the bedside lamp and saw the phone lying on the floor.

She let out a sigh, got up to pick the phone up, put the battery back in, and turned it on.

The caller display showed several missed calls, all from Xiao Lang.

Li Mingxi didn’t call him back. Instead, she grabbed her clothes and went to take a shower.

Starting today, she and Xiao Lang would no longer have anything to do with each other. After tomorrow, she would be Li Qian’s fiancée.

...

At that very moment, in the curtain of rain, a black sedan was speeding down the road.

Another car suddenly appeared in front of it. The black sedan swerved sharply; the slick road sent the car skidding. It went out of control and with a bang slammed into the guardrail, then flipped over.

...

After blow-drying her hair, Li Mingxi lay in bed tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

Only when she finally made it through till dawn did she at last drift off.

Just as the sky was beginning to lighten, she was jolted awake by the shrill ringtone of her phone.

Groping for the phone, she saw the two characters ”Di Sheng” flashing on the screen, and her heart couldn’t help but lurch in panic.

Di Sheng rarely called her of his own accord.
