She Lives without Regret in This Life

”President, you’ve misunderstood. I want to join the rescue team as a reconnoitre.” There’s no Special Rescue Team yet, so the best rescue comrades are the reconnoitre comrades.

Meng Xingzhi couldn’t help but laugh, ”You’ve got quite the ambition, girl! The reconnoitre of the rescue team are the most elite in the Northern District, wherever they’re deployed, they’re strong.”

The reconnoitre are essentially a reserve force that can be deployed to the rescue field at any time; countless people rack their brains to try to get in. Even he can’t just arrange people in as he pleases.

”What skills do you have?”

Gu Yunbo bit her lip, staying silent. She really wanted to say she was skilled in combat, climbing, driving, parachuting, diving, wilderness survival, mastery of various individual light and heavy weapons, and more.

But she couldn’t say any of this; at present, she was just a girl who had recently come out of the mountains.

The atmosphere felt a bit oppressive. Ping Guo Fei couldn’t stand it, so he spoke up: ”Leader, this girl has exceptional physical fitness, she’s naturally suited to be a rescue comrade. It’s really a pity if she doesn’t become one.”

”How good is she?”

”Better than me.”

Meng Xingzhi smiled. He knew his assistant well: loyal, honest, and diligent. Since he said this, it was likely the girl was indeed excellent. But excellence is one thing, joining the rescue team is another.

”Alright then! If you want to be a rescue comrade, you can apply this year. I’ll write a recommendation letter. But I suggest postponing it a bit; next year the college entrance exams might be reinstated. If you can enter National Security University and then join the rescue team, that would be better.”

Ping Guo Fei’s eyes brightened, excitedly rubbing his hands.

”Alright, we’ll go with your suggestion.” Ping Guo Fei gave Gu Yunbo a look, ”Girl, go thank the President.”

”Thank you, President.”

”Alright! Go have fun then!”

The two probably had other things to discuss. Gu Yunbo politely bowed before leaving the study. She stood in the corridor for a moment, feeling muddled. In her past life, she didn’t choose to join the rescue team but participated in the college entrance exams. Her grades were average, relying on the knowledge her mother taught her before she died.

Gu Weiwei truly deserved the title of a talented woman; the knowledge she taught her during those semi-mad, semi-foolish years was enough for her to benefit from for a lifetime.

She spotted a closed door across the corridor and walked over directly. Having come to the Meng Family many times in her past life, she knew everyone’s rooms and which one was the bathroom.

She pushed open the bathroom door, greeted by a mirror and a wash area. After more than a month without running water, suddenly having it felt quite comforting.

She bent down to turn on the faucet, waiting for the sink to fill, then submerged her head. The cool water instantly permeated her mind, clearing away the heat and dizzy thoughts, whether from the stuffiness or thoughts of Meng Fan’s death in her past life.

”Are you... okay?” A deep, melodious voice sounded behind her, like the tinkling of spring water tapping on her heart.

Gu Yunbo abruptly stood up, the sudden movement splashing water everywhere, including on the man who had just come out of the shower and now had water droplets on him.

”I’m sorry...” The overwhelming sense of pressure made her avoid looking up; she could guess who the man behind her was.

Dammit, how could he be home at this time?

”It’s alright.” Meng Fan didn’t mind at all; he looked at the girl with her head down and a hint of interest on his lips. ”You don’t have to keep your head down; now anyone can hold their head high.”
