Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 939: Chapter 937: Facets (10) Chapter 939: Chapter 937: Facets (10) “This…”

Qing quickly realized something, and immediately took a step back, scrutinizing Red Dragon’s body.

He noticed a bright line emerging amidst the bloodstains on the left side of Red Dragon’s shoulder and neck.

Red Dragon had already tried his best to dodge, but the splashing, like a downpour, still contaminated him with a trace of fluorescence.

“Is there anything unusual?”

As a professional, Qing quickly adjusted his regret and asked solemnly.

“Not at the moment.”

Red Dragon shook his head.

“It’s a pity, considering prior experiences, it’s very likely to turn you into a mad, bloodthirsty animal at some point.”

The prisoner on death row warily stared at the door behind him while saying swiftly.

“So, I suggest you keep your distance from me.”

Yellow Dragon, obviously not the good-hearted man of legends, scoffed at this suspicion and bent down to pick up the Blade Spear.

This highly imposing weapon had undoubtedly been desecrated as well, with specks of fluorescence spreading around.

Of course, relatively speaking, its speed wasn’t fast.

“It doesn’t matter.”

At this moment, a voice suddenly rang out—it was the technician, Guansi.

“What do you mean?”

“You’re right.”

While Lady Star expressed her confusion, Masked Man agreed with Fu Qian’s statement.

The next moment, he directly leaped past the prisoner on death row and took the lead into the door behind.

“Clearly, the top floor isn’t the only source of the fluorescence; it must be appearing on every floor simultaneously, and it’s highly likely we can’t escape from here without being contaminated.”

Having signaled the others to follow, he continued speaking as he walked.

“Do you mean even if we try to leave the same way we came in, we’d most likely be contaminated too?”

Lady Star followed closely, clearly reluctant to accept this fact.

“Yes.”

Masked Man kept walking, signifying to observe the surroundings.

In the dim light, strands and threads of shiny fluorescence were visible, like shingles on the walls.

Meanwhile, the shift in colors had already stopped, and around them, there was no sign of blue anymore, replaced instead by deep, blood-red.

“Why can’t it spread from a special channel, perhaps through a drainpipe or something?”

The prisoner on death row clearly had some respect for Masked Man but was still deeply unwilling to accept the scenario he had described.

“Is that the case with those two dogs as well? And the locked doors?”

Masked Man was unequivocally brusque, directly interrogating him coldly.

“The two dogs had collars of the same style around their necks. Rather than being experimental subjects that escaped from some lab, more likely they had been specifically bred to serve as guard dogs. Also, on our way up here, we searched every corner below, but didn’t even see a single dog hair.”

“But if they really were brought here to guard, then that raises a question: where is the person who brought them?”

Brother Red Dragon obviously was following Masked Man’s train of thought, looking around while raising his question, only to hesitate the next moment.

“Never mind.”

Ahead in the corridor, not far away, a legless figure was seen crawling on the ground, dragging its limbs bit by bit.

The upper body of the corpse was clad in some sort of dark uniform.

And the numerous thick and thin trails of fluorescence, like the slime left by snails crawling, were dragging a long streak across the floor.

The most important thing was that the trail extended all the way to a distant corner.

“What exactly is going on here?”

Even Brother Death Row had realized what was happening.

This was a very simple math problem. The victim, whose lower half might have been devoured by his own pet, couldn’t have moved much faster than a snail.

By dividing the length of the trail behind him by his speed, the result was several hours at least, which was much longer than the time everyone had left the area.

“I don’t know, the only thing we can be sure of is that if it’s the same down there, don’t even talk about avoiding contamination by the fluorescent substances, the chances of escaping are very small.”

At this time, Qing quickly responded, agreeing with Masked Man’s previous judgment.

“So what’s the point of what we are doing now?”

“By avoiding the creatures above us, even if we can’t get out, we can try to find a position to hold and gather as much information as possible, to find out what exactly happened.”

Without even glancing at Brother Death Row, Qing raised her bow, nailed the half-body to the ground with an arrow, and then was the first to move forward, carefully avoiding the glowing substances on the ground while circling around him.

The struggling corpse clearly noticed her, and almost instantly swiped its claws, but due to its limited body, it fell short.

With Qing leading the way, the others quickly followed, surpassing this small obstacle, including Brother Death Row who had just raised the question.

At the same time, a familiar roar came from behind them.

Just as Qing said, the disturbed creatures on the upper floor had broken through the barrier and were in pursuit.

…

“It looks like it’s not going to work.”

Not long after, Red Dragon looked at the slightly crowded passage in front of him and let out a long sigh.

The surrounding fluorescent spread quickly, and despite their best efforts to be careful, everyone inevitably got contaminated.

At first, some chose to discard their contaminated clothing to preserve their safety, but soon they realized it didn’t buy them much time, and this practice was abandoned.

But this proved that Red Dragon wasn’t lying.

After being contaminated with the glow, so far, indeed, no abnormalities were felt.

That was the good news. The bad news was that this floor had far more reanimated corpses wearing various clothes than before, and their aggressiveness had clearly increased.

On their way here, their ranged options had also been severely depleted.

A quick estimation was enough to know that physically getting through was almost not feasible.

“We need to find a place to hide.”

Masked Man confirmed the difficulty they faced in a flat tone.

Trapped in a dire situation unexpectedly, the group hadn’t given up easily and quickly reached a consensus on a backup plan.

Moments later, under Red Dragon’s lead, everyone flashed into a room one by one, shut the door behind them, and finally got a moment to breathe.

At an ordinary human’s physical condition, the exhaustion was incomparable to normal times; they needed to seize every opportunity to rest and recover.

“Wait, this place looks somewhat familiar.”

However, it didn’t take long for Death Row to look around, his forehead lightly furrowed.

“Of course, the potions you have were taken from here.”

Seeing that Red Dragon was too lazy to answer his question, Qing slowly nodded her head.

“From here?”

Death Row seemed thoughtful for a moment, but then his gaze focused on a corner.

“Then why is the safe still locked?”

“Yes.”

It was then that Red Dragon finally spoke, his tone loaded with undisguised sarcasm.

“That’s one of the reasons we chose this place. If the safe is still locked, then isn’t it necessary to see what’s inside?”
