Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 267: Chapter 267: An Offer That Can’t Be Refused_1

Fu Qian certainly did not forget to send Wen Li away.

Although many times, knowing too much is not a good thing,

sometimes, knowing a little more can have unexpected benefits.

Having Wen Li stay here, on one hand, would make it more difficult for Yuan Shan to figure out his relationship with Wen Li.

On the other hand, a Wen Li who knows a bit more would become a person that the Night Watchman must protect.

For instance, Yuan Shan would definitely not want her to fall into Ariel’s hands right now.

...This would also increase the safety index for this unfortunate kid in Shangjing.

“So what was your original plan?”

Fu Qian did not explain anything but directly asked.

“I originally didn’t plan to rush things.”

Yuan Shan sighed.

“Although Ariel is a prime suspect, if he is really trying to test us, a strong reaction would play right into his hands. Moreover, I needed time to gather people, so I intended to pretend that I hadn’t noticed Mingyue’s problem and not alert him.

“I didn’t expect the Chen Family to have trouble so soon. Now it’s not just the Chen Family in chaos, but many families in Shangjing are watching closely. If we don’t act now, it would be even more abnormal.”

It was more or less what he had thought, and clearly, Yuan Shan also believed that Chen Du’s death was Ariel’s doing.

Fu Qian nodded.

“In chaos… At this time, shouldn’t Chen Xing come forward to take charge of the situation?”

“That’s because when people from the Chen Family reported the case, they also stated that Chen Xing had gone missing as well and asked for our help in searching for him,”

Yuan Shan looked at him, speaking without any hesitation.

“Of course, Chen Xing has not gone missing but is dead.”

“Dead?”

Wen Li exclaimed in surprise on one side, while Fu Qian showed little surprise.

Chen Xing shutting himself away was already very fishy, and there was a variety of speculation, including conjectures that something went wrong and he was already dead.

It would be too deliberate for him to show too much surprise now.

“Yes.”

Yuan Shan glanced at Fu Qian for only half a second before averting her gaze.

She still had a clear grasp of the importance and urgency of the situation, having already given up probing at this moment.

“Then you guys can just go through the motions, just look around casually, right? Over the years, there must be plenty of cases without resolution.”

“Of course, there are, and plenty of them,”

Yuan Shan sighed.

“But now it’s different. Let’s not talk about Chen Du and Chen Xing; their deaths have too great an impact. The biggest problem is that the murderer left behind obvious clues…”

Oh?

Fu Qian frowned slightly; this wasn’t surprising at all.

From what he could see, Ariel was evidently very arrogant. It wasn’t too surprising that he would perform this tightrope act of testing.

But when they actually found him, he would likely have a perfect alibi and would judge based on the Night Watchman’s next move how much they really knew.

Seeing that Fu Qian had understood the situation, Yuan Shan continued,

“Under these circumstances, not to mention that we can’t do nothing, members of the Chen Family have already started to follow the clues on their own. They wouldn’t remain unresponsive to the murder of their clan leader.”

“Are you worried that if they actually find the real culprit, they won’t be able to control themselves properly?”

“Exactly! It would be even more troublesome to cope with the situation then.”

“So we must take control of the situation.”

Yuan Shan stared at Fu Qian, not blinking an eye.

“You’re thinking of…”

Fu Qian had a good guess of what Yuan Shan was thinking.

“That’s right, I hope you can play the murderer for a bit to help draw attention and buy time for my recruitment.”

Yuan Shan said earnestly.

I knew it!

Fu Qian glanced at her; his expression showed no significant change.

“Although it sounds a bit crazy, it’s not without feasibility.”

Seeing that Fu Qian hadn’t spoken, Yuan Shan continued to explain,

“With the powers of both Chen Xing and Chen Du, it would be hard to convince people if we found someone else to play the murderer.

“The greatest advantage right now is that not many in Shangjing know you’re a Demigod. You just need to find an opportunity to demonstrate your strength.

“At this moment, a Demigod suddenly appearing is too sensitive. We don’t even have to guide it deliberately for it to have quite an impressive effect.

“And you should have the ability to change your appearance, right?”

“That’s easy enough,”

Fu Qian responded.

To be fair, Yuan Shan’s idea did have some feasibility.

The reason was simple, I was indeed the perfect actor for the role.

An unknown demigod who could change appearances at will and had dealings with the Chen Family, the Night Watchman, and the Native Council.

And most importantly, I really was the damn murderer who killed Chen Xing!

It could be described as a fluke that hit the mark.

“I will mobilize the Night Watchman to cooperate with your operation, and the overall situation will definitely not exceed control.”

“This should buy a few days, enough for me to coordinate manpower and reduce the risk posed by the ticking time bomb Ariel to the lowest.”

“Facing such an unforeseen event, under normal conditions, he should also feel some confusion but won’t be sure if he’s exposed and likely won’t undertake other drastic actions in the short term.”

That was only a should.

Fu Qian thought to himself.

“I agree with your plan.”

“Really?”

Yuan Shan’s eyes instantly brightened like morning stars; she seemingly didn’t expect Fu Qian to agree so readily.

“A reasonable plan with little risk to me, why not?”

Fu Qian smiled enigmatically.

A second-phase Transcendent who acts aberrantly and a Divine Envoy who could set off catastrophes—as Yuan Shan said, a bomb that can’t be controlled.

He still needed to be kept within a certain range of control.

Moreover, there was something quite unique about this fellow, and Fu Qian didn’t mind interacting more with him—under the alias of a Night Watchman.

“That’s great!”

Yuan Shan, with a smile that could dazzle, looked at Fu Qian.

“Don’t worry, you won’t be busy for nothing.

“After this, any documents within my purview, you can access them anytime, without any limits.”

“Besides, the Night Watchman has collected a lot of magical items and materials over the years. I can also find time for you to choose from.”

Not bad at all.

Fu Qian nodded repeatedly, Chief Yuan indeed knew how to deal with people.

“And even…”

Yuan Shan thought for a moment.

“If you’re interested in any Night Watchman, I might be able to create opportunities for you too…”

“Regardless of gender.”

“Those are hard conditions to refuse!”

Yuan Shan’s unbounded offer elicited a sincere exclamation from Fu Qian.

Clearly, she was a pragmatist through and through.

“Just emphasizing my sincerity!”

Yuan Shan answered as if it were to be expected.

“So, we’re agreed? There’s no need to rush, you should just find a way to show up around the afternoon. Too early might actually be suspicious.”

“Don’t I need to refer to the leftover clues?”

“No need.”

Yuan Shan’s face was full of confidence.

“Just the appearance of an unfamiliar demigod is enough, I’ll handle the rest. You know, many clues are often left to mislead…”

Great minds think alike.

Fu Qian deeply agreed with what Yuan Shan said.

“Even so, it still feels a bit forced, he might still suspect backstage manipulation.”

“That can’t be helped, we’ll buy as much time as we can.”

Yuan Shan sounded a bit helpless.

“Or do you have a better idea?”

“Indeed, I do,”

Fu Qian said casually.

“Chen Du is dead, who is now in charge of the Chen Family matters?”

“That? Their generation lacks any real talent. It’s Chen Ping who has already retired behind the scenes that’s in charge now—wait, what are you holding back for?”

Yuan Shan realized something was wrong halfway through.

“Just as you think,”

Fu Qian rubbed his chin.

“If we’re going to put on a show, might as well go all out; I could just get rid of the old master directly, and then it all makes much more sense.”

…
