Facing an Ancient God for a Year

The quiet banquet hall became even quieter with Fu Qian’s shout.

Seconds later, it was a crossbow and several shiny handguns that responded to him.

As expected, it wasn’t going to be easy!

With these weapons pointed at him, Fu Qian shook his head inwardly.

“I must say, your disguise skills are quite impressive,”

It was still Collins, the one with the crossbow, who spoke first.

...“But unfortunately, you’ve made an unbelievable mistake.”

This cold smile, he pointed at someone next to Grace.

“The person you’re impersonating is right here.”

“Although Nate is not in the mood to talk much and we certainly wouldn’t overlook his presence, for an assassin, being as foolish as you is rare!”

“This time, you won’t have another chance to escape. Who exactly are you?”

I knew it!

Fu Qian found Collins’s words totally unsurprising.

He never underestimated the power of imagination.

Since these people believed in a non-existent Nate, it was only natural for them to think he was an imposter upon seeing him.

In fact, he had already prepared for this.

Glancing at Grace, as if sizing up the person next to her, Fu Qian shook his head with a smirk.

“Collins, I’m returning your compliment to you, just as it is.”

There was a hint of melancholy in his expression.

“People really do change. If it were before, I would have pulled out a gun and blown your brains out without a second thought.”

“Now, I don’t even have the desire to defend myself.”

“What intrigues me the most is, what joy do you find in playing an old man who has lost his child?”

After pausing for two seconds, Fu Qian shook his head again.

“Not talking? Makes sense, your voice imitation is probably not as good as your appearance.”

He didn’t bother with that “Void” Nate anymore and turned to face everyone else.

The next moment, he took off his hat, revealing a shiny bald head.

Holding the black top hat to his chest, Fu Qian bowed to the crowd.

“Let’s leave it at that for today. You’re all welcome to attend Sean’s funeral tomorrow.”

Having done all this, Fu Qian turned around without any care and walked straight toward the exit, his back to everyone.

He had left the banquet hall and there were no gunshots from behind.

In fact, Fu Qian didn’t expect this trick of true and false Monkey Kings to instantly change the minds of these people; planting a seed was enough.

Besides, conveying the news about Sean’s funeral was another goal.

The funeral was the focal point of the plan.

And even if these people saw him as an impostor, they would likely attend just to confirm what his real intentions were.

…

“You’re back a bit early today!”

When he returned to his residence, Veil heard his voice, came downstairs, and greeted him.

She seems to be in a good mood!

Fu Qian responded, noticing that Veil looked considerably more relaxed.

“Did you meet with your sister today?”

“Is it that obvious?”

Veil appeared slightly surprised but still smiled and nodded.

“She’s recovering well, and her spirits have improved a lot.”

“Today was probably the most we’ve talked in years.”

“Not bad.”

Fu Qian nodded in approval.

“`

“It’s just that she wanted to stay here, saying she likes the atmosphere.”

Veil continued.

“In fact, this is also good, it can keep her away from matters of Transcendent power and also entrust Aunt Grace to take care of her.”

“It’s just a pity that, because of my identity, I can’t stay here all the time. I can only sneak in from time to time to see her.”

“Actually, when you think about it, that’s not too bad either, it’s like taking a vacation every once in a while.”

She looked at Fu Qian with a smile.

“Vacations here are quite nice, right?”

“Indeed.”

Fu Qian expressed his approval.

“A very special place. Moreover, I need to tell you something else, I will be leaving here tomorrow.”

“So soon?”

Veil, who had been speaking enthusiastically, suddenly stopped and stared at Fu Qian in astonishment.

In principle, the departure of this dangerous person should be good news no matter what.

But while relieving a sigh, there was also an inexplicable sense of loss.

It occurred to her that she hadn’t properly thanked him yet.

Not to mention conveying a message for her last time, but this time her sister’s change of attitude was partly due to his help.

In today’s conversation with Riet, she didn’t dare to ask for any information regarding Fu Qian.

“What time tomorrow?”

“Very early! So there’s no need to prepare my breakfast.”

Fu Qian didn’t say much more and went straight back to his room to rest.

…

The next afternoon, a funeral was being held in the cemetery.

Having reverted to the appearance of Nate, Fu Qian sat quietly in his chair, scrutinizing the exterior through his sunglasses.

No matter what Collins and the others thought, to the ordinary people, he was the real Nate.

The day before, not only did he announce the news of the funeral at the banquet, but as the elder Nate, he also had his men send out as many invitations as possible.

Now everyone in Byeluk knew that old Nate had finally gathered himself to hold a grand funeral for his son.

And as an old man of considerable repute, Nate’s appeal meant that the cemetery was now teeming with people.

Of course, the most important thing was that all the Observers had arrived, and Fu Qian easily spotted Collins and his group amongst the crowd.

And from his perception, he could confirm that at this moment, no more than one-third of these people were in a braindance state. It was clear that most of their unique states were concentrated at night.

Good!

Fu Qian was very satisfied with this result.

To know that for a long time, the behavior of this group had not been discovered to be unusual.

This strongly indicated that even while in braindance, they didn’t engage in particularly abnormal actions.

In other words, the script for their braindance was well coupled with the usual information, avoiding strong conflicts as much as possible.

And Fu Qian’s plan was based on this angle.

The reason for this funeral was to publicize certain important information in front of as many witnesses as possible, to imprint it into all of their minds, thereby suppressing the direction of the script.

Ultimately, Nate would truly cease to exist in their cognition.

Under such circumstances, the motivations of Collins and the others for coming were no longer important.

They just needed to come, to see, and the rest would be left to the script.

Besides them, Fu Qian also saw Veil, once again dressed in a black dress.

Her face veil was twice as thick as last time, she was restraining her aura as much as possible, standing silently by her aunt’s side.

And in a corner at some distance, bookstore owner Bernard was there with his messy hair, a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other, standing in a shadow, observing the whole affair with the stance of an Observer.

He even came!

As Fu Qian internally exclaimed, he stood up, picked up a bunch of flowers from beside him, and walked to Sean’s gravestone.

Gazing at the young face in the photo, Fu Qian gently placed the flowers down.

Your father may be caught in what you’d call an illusion, but within that illusion, he has not forgotten to avenge you.
