Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Due to the heavy snow, Chen Wen rested in the shelter for a day.

The second day arrived.

The snow gradually lessened.

Chen Wen glanced at the weather; the overcast sky brightened a bit.

”The weather today is quite nice.”

Seeing Hua Yun getting up, Chen Wen said with a smile.

Looking at the bright sky, Hua Yun’s mood also improved.

”What are you planning to do today? I see the snow isn’t heavy, it’s even about to stop. If you want to tame a reindeer, today is the day.”

This suggestion seemed correct.

Chen Wen stroked the lynx’s head and said, ”Yes, sticking to the old plan, I’ll go out with the lynx and Golden Eagle to try to tame a reindeer.”

”As long as we can catch an adult male reindeer, the journey ahead will be much easier.”

An adult male reindeer pulling a sled may not be as efficient as Chen Wen and Hua Yun together, but it’s definitely more efficient than just one person.

Upon hearing that it was its turn, the lynx perked up.

These days, due to their last conversation, the lynx seemed a bit distracted.

It enjoyed staying with the two humans, but that didn’t mean it was ready to leave this familiar environment with them.

Heading to a completely unfamiliar human society.

The Golden Eagle flapped its wings, full of energy.

The last time it searched for reindeer, the blizzard hindered its performance.

This time, it was determined to redeem itself.

Chen Wen packed his backpack with tools needed to capture a reindeer and enough lunch for one person, one eagle, and one lynx.

After saying goodbye to Hua Yun, they left the camp.

Hua Yun, armed, planned to check the riverbank and look around the area.

To see if any unlucky soul wandered into the gorge.

...

Following the route explored last time.

Chen Wen, Golden Eagle, and the lynx smoothly arrived at the valley where the reindeer were found.

The reindeer were still there, which made Chen Wen quite excited.

He set traps south of the reindeer as he had planned before.

The trap locations were previously scouted by Chen Wen.

It’s considered one of the few animal paths available.

The capture traps set by Chen Wen were relatively simple, just common trigger traps.

Trigger traps consist of two main parts.

One is the triggering device.

Chen Wen used a rope and tied a slipknot on it.

He secured the slipknot to the ground, using a wooden stick to create a triggering device.

Essentially, it was a three-stick trigger trap.

He inserted three wooden sticks into the ground, forming a shape similar to a triangle.

Two of the three sticks had barbed forks attached.

Chen Wen used a stick to wedge the forks, using root-made ropes from Yunshan Tree to again secure this, creating the base of the triangle.

Then he tied a stick to the rope of the slipknot, positioned behind the knot.

The other end of the rope was tied to a pine branch, pulled taut constantly.

Finally, he rested this stick on the triangle’s base, with the other end braced against the third stick of the triangle.

This stick formed the height of the triangle.

Construction completed.

With this trap, if an animal touched any stick, the entire trap would activate.

The loose slipknot would be pulled tight by the tensed rope, then suddenly close.

Like a noose trap, the more the animal struggled, the tighter the knot would bind.

Ultimately trapping the animal alive for humans to handle.

The Golden Eagle, witness to Chen Wen’s trap prowess, was particularly energized by the sight.

It cried out, asking Chen Wen, ”Which is stronger, this trap or the one for catching capercaillies?”

”Definitely this one.”

Chen Wen chuckled as he covered the trap with fallen leaves and snow for camouflage.

”This trap’s trigger range is huge; as long as a reindeer steps on it, touching any stick will spring the trap, securing the reindeer inside.”

Hearing this, the Golden Eagle was astonished.

But the lynx seemed indifferent.

Just some sticks and ropes?

What’s so impressive?

In the end, don’t we still have to rely on our own efforts?

After setting up the trap on this animal trail, Chen Wen began to circle around.

He bypassed the reindeer herd and arrived at their northern side.

Here, Chen Wen called up the lynx and the Golden Eagle and started the final arrangements.

”The plan is simple. I’ll go out first. If the reindeer have forgotten what happened before and allow me to get close, then things will be quite simple.”

Chen Wen said with a smile: ”At that point, all I need to do is pick a suitable reindeer, feed it, and calm it. Then we’ve achieved our great success and can head straight back. However...”

Chen Wen’s tone shifted, and his expression turned serious: ”If this herd of reindeer still remembers me and the previous hunting incident, then we’re in trouble.”

”I’ll use the axe and a stick to drive the reindeer herd, making them flee. Your task is to ambush on the east and west sides, continually harassing the herd and correcting their direction to ensure they escape south.”

”In this case, the reindeer still have an impression and fear of you. You don’t need to attack them; just drive and correct their route.”

Chen Wen calculated the distance.

He was worried about being detected by the reindeer, so the traps were set up fairly far away.

There’s at least a hundred meters to cover, requiring the lynx and the Golden Eagle to correct.

It’s a very challenging task.

But the Golden Eagle and lynx were eager to go, agreeing without any hesitation.

The lynx turned to the west, and the Golden Eagle went to the east.

Chen Wen, holding an axe and cut pine branches, conserved his strength.

Soon, the call of the Golden Eagle rang out.

This meant that both it and the lynx were in position.

Chen Wen, holding the axe and branches, stood up.

He slowly approached the reindeer herd, exposing himself to their awareness.

Soon, the lookout reindeer spotted Chen Wen.

As soon as they saw Chen Wen, these reindeer became nervous.

They are not fish. Their memory extends far beyond seven seconds.

The lookout reindeer let out a loud snort, and the herd immediately became alert.

Some male reindeer came to the side where Chen Wen stood, their antlers resembling coral, seemingly reminding Chen Wen.

We remember you!

If you still want to invade our territory, keep these big antlers in mind!

Fine, soft approaches won’t work.

Chen Wen shook his head and pulled out the axe hidden behind his back: ”Then taste the hard way!”

With a furious shout, Chen Wen charged directly at the reindeer herd.

The swinging axe swept through the snow, raising a spray of snowy mist.

All of it told the reindeer that this biped is not to be trifled with!

He is not a vegetarian!

The male reindeer at the front of the herd turned and ran without any hesitation.

They are vegetarian.

Just like that, the reindeer herd broke and fled south in an instant.

Amid the pounding footsteps.

The tuft of hair on the lynx’s ears quivered slightly.

It heard some discordant sounds and wanted to warn Chen Wen.

But with the herd stampeding, the lynx had no choice but to brace itself and go.

It charged from the side, letting out a sharp cry.

The Golden Eagle swooped from the other side, its piercing call causing quite a few reindeer to shudder.

With the lynx and the Golden Eagle working in tandem, the reindeer herd fled straight south as Chen Wen had planned.

Many male reindeer instinctively followed the broad animal trail, after all, their antlers hadn’t fallen off yet and were quite cumbersome.

If they didn’t use the trail, they might get snagged by trees.

If that biped behind them caught up, that would be no small matter!

Chen Wen watched everything unfold according to his plan and felt especially pleased.

But just as Chen Wen was contemplating how to tame the reindeer later.

Two massive black shadows suddenly emerged from the woods along the reindeer’s inevitable path.

They were incredibly fast, directly targeting the reindeer herd.

It would have been better if those two shadows hadn’t appeared—once they did, they thoroughly disrupted Chen Wen’s plan.

The reindeer were so frightened by the two shadows that they scattered, instinctively fleeing away from the shadows.

The lynx and Golden Eagle were clearly no match for the shadows, and the reindeer simply ignored them.

The lynx, being fast, leapt onto a Yunshan Tree on one side, avoiding being trampled by the reindeer.

The Golden Eagle soared higher, watching the distant shadows, its heart sinking.

Chen Wen bared his teeth as he looked at the shadows ahead and uttered their name: ”American black bear!”
