The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 845: Chapter 332: To Hell with Your Tragic Strength (Part 2)_3

As a result, He Erniu turned over every corner of the house and only found several copper coins.

He Erniu’s eyes turned red and he almost slapped Ms. Hetian.

Ms. Hetian was terrified and anxiously confessed the truth—

”My younger brother wants to get married, and the girl’s family is asking for a betrothal gift of four thousand coins. How could my family have so much money?”

”My sister-in-law is pregnant and needs good food, which costs quite a bit just for eggs and meat every month.”

Of course, these are everyday expenses.

Yet the largest and truly draining expenditure of the He Family’s savings was this: ”My brother met a friend who said he could get the exam questions, and once he has them, my brother can pass the exam to become a scholar!”

Once he becomes a scholar, he will be a true intellectual.

Tian Yaozong would then be someone who could truly bring honor to the family.

Therefore, Ms. Hetian, although it pained her and fearing her husband’s anger, still steeled herself to give the last eight thousand coins to her mother, Old Lady Han.

He Erniu had arranged to fulfill his labor duties, and it summed up to exactly eight thousand coins.

Actually, if Ms. Hetian had spoken out earlier, He Erniu could at least have gone to the escort agency or borrowed some money from a few good brothers.

But Ms. Hetian kept it a secret, only confessing at the last minute.

By then, He Erniu couldn’t manage to borrow money in time.

There’s still a donkey and several acres of land at home which could be sold to gather the money.

But if these are sold, can the future days still be lived?

It’s merely about labor duties, not being dragged to fight at the frontier. It’s just some hardship, far from reaching a state where one must sell everything.

After his initial anger, He Erniu calmed down, and said to his wife helplessly, ”Forget it, I’ll go fulfill the labor duties. You take good care of the child at home!”

Of course, He Erniu still needed to make things clear.

He kept a stern face and said in a deep voice, ”Just one thing, this will be the last time. If you dare support your maternal family again, then you can go back to the Tian Family.”

”And, not just being divorced back to them will settle everything. When I return from fulfilling my duties, if I find the house doesn’t seem like home, and you don’t seem like a He Family daughter-in-law, I’ll settle the score with the Tian Family!”

Saying this, He Erniu raised a fist the size of a brass bowl and coldly laughed, ”I don’t hit women, but I can sure hit that little bastard Tian Yaozong!”

”I just wonder if your lousy brother, who knows only to cling to his sister’s body to suck the blood and eat the flesh, can withstand a few punches!”

Bam!

After saying that, He Erniu smashed a broken stool with a punch.

Ms. Hetian was completely frightened; she saw madness and ruthlessness in her husband’s eyes!

Everything he said was true, if she tightened her family’s belt to fatten her maternal family again, He Erniu would indeed settle the score with Tian Yaozong!

With such a warning, Ms. Hetian became much more obedient.

Besides, she felt guilty in her heart.

No matter what, He Erniu is her husband, her son’s biological father.

Yet because she gave money to her maternal family, her husband had no choice but to go repair the river embankment in the dead of winter.

If there were in-laws in the He Family, those elders would definitely have divorced Ms. Hetian.

Ms. Hetian might just have been brainwashed by her family, but she’s not truly foolish.

She knows well in her heart, once married, who she can truly rely on is her husband and son.

Of course, her brother is her backup too, but Ms. Hetian is afraid that He Erniu would really go and hit her brother.

Enough is enough, let’s just get through this winter; when her husband returns, she’ll make amends, apologize, win back her husband’s heart, and then find a way to help her maternal family as well!

Ms. Hetian thought well, but even He Erniu never imagined, his departure would be their final farewell.

That’s right, before winter was over, turmoil broke out.

The embankment He Erniu was working on was ravaged by rebel violence, and he was forced by rebels to flee to foreign lands.

Here in He Family Village, first came the riots, then bandits, and the following spring brought drought.

Ms. Hetian almost couldn’t survive, she had no choice but to take her child and fled back to her maternal family.

Old Lady Han, always a miser, surprisingly took in Ms. Hetian and her child; don’t be mistaken, it wasn’t out of motherly love or newfound conscience.

She set her sights on the several acres of land and the donkey of the He Family.

In years of famine, land wasn’t worth much.

However, Old Lady Han sold the He Family’s land early on for several thousand cents.

By the time the disaster worsened, and Old Lady Han finally decided to sell her own land, no one wanted it.

As people were already proposing to flee the famine.

Old Lady Han regretted yet felt fortunate; she still didn’t want to sell her land.

She thought it through, reckoning that even if fleeing, once the disaster passes, they’d still return home.

If the land were sold, what would happen to their Yaozong?

Anyway, holding on to the several thousand cents from selling the He Family land, an invaluable donkey, and a very capable eldest daughter, even if fleeing from famine, Old Lady Han felt confident...
