After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad

Chapter 265: Chapter 264: The Dark Truth Inside the Organization’s Laboratory

”The other party is waiting for your answer.” The doctor looked at me with a smile. ”Sweetheart, do you know how much it costs... to ask a single question? Getting your answer is very precious.”

”The ones who can sit behind the camera and watch you must have assets that pass the organization’s review. And those who can ask questions must be willing to spend a fortune... It’s like an auction house. A single question... is worth a million.”

The spasming pain in my body slowly subsided. I shot him a dark look and sneered, ”Who do I like...? After spending so much time around people, I’ve grown to prefer dogs...”

”ARGH!” Pain coursed through my entire body again. This time, the electric shock didn’t come from the lie detector—it came from the doctor.

He was very dissatisfied with my answer. ”Don’t evade the question. You should know, the answer the tycoons want to hear is worth a million...”

The doctor grabbed my hair, forcing me to look at the camera in front of me.

My hands were bound tightly to the chair. I couldn’t break free.

”Sebastian Lancaster and Julian Fletcher. Who do you love?” The doctor pointed at the screen, clearly displeased that I, his test subject, wasn’t being cooperative.

”Sebastian Lancaster...” My hands clenched into tight fists. I could taste blood in my mouth.

’Since Julian Fletcher wants an answer, I’ll give him one.’

”Sebastian Lancaster...”

”Sebastian Lancaster!”

”The man I love is Sebastian Lancaster!”

”My Asher...”

I enunciated every word, but the lie detector registered it as a lie. The searing pain was so intense my muscles began to convulse.

”You lied...” the doctor replied with a smile.

”So that means... the real answer is the other one, Julian Fletcher.” The doctor was trying to provoke me.

I glared at him furiously and spat out a mouthful of blood. ”F*ck your mother...”

In that moment, all I wanted was to curse someone out. The pain, the rage, the emotional turmoil...

’This stupid lie detector is completely irrational. It’s affected by too many interfering factors. It works by sensing physiological changes like the subject’s breathing, blood pressure, and pulse to determine if they’re lying, but a test like this is influenced by the environment, even your psychological state. It can’t be used as a basis for judgment at all.’

”Retrieving test subjects from the outside world is the biggest headache...” The doctor cracked his neck, his smile chillingly creepy, like a sadist’s. ”You know what I hate most? Test subjects like you, who are allowed to run free. You all pick up bad habits from the outside. Disobedient, uncooperative... not good at all.”

He pressed the button again, and a current even stronger than before shot through my body.

Blood trickled continuously from the corner of my mouth. I had been clenching my jaw so hard it felt like the entire inside of my mouth was bleeding.

DING! A warning light in the room lit up, and a mechanical voice sounded. ”A member of the consortium has rejected the inhumane collection of experimental data. The tester is warned against the use of violent methods.”

The mechanical voice warned the doctor not to use unauthorized torture on me.

The doctor chuckled and squatted in front of me. ”It seems someone in the audience cares a lot about you... Filing a complaint against a tester costs a fortune. All this money being thrown around, it’s a real eye-opener... No wonder everyone in the lab says you’re the most valuable test subject.”

I was on the verge of collapse. I looked at him, my voice weak. ”Do you want to know... why I’m so valuable?”

I had no strength left to speak, my words slurring. The doctor leaned in closer, and I slammed my head with all my might into his eye socket.

A pained scream erupted as he fell to the ground, clutching his eye and crying out in agony.

Enraged, he scrambled up to press the button and punish me but was warned again by the mechanical voice. ”The use of violent methods on the test subject is prohibited.”

”The use of violent methods on the test subject is prohibited.”

The doctor laughed, tossed the remote aside, and lowered his voice to a whisper in my ear. ”Today’s test is over... I’m going to show you what real Hell is.”

”In here, all test subjects must obey my every word. You are no exception... If you’re disobedient... I will teach you the meaning of punishment.”

’He was threatening me.’

I sneered, leaning back in the chair.

Another question popped up on the screen: After memory implantation and hypnosis, a person can even deceive themselves. So what’s the point of a lie detector?

This time, someone had spent a fortune, but their question was directed at the organization.

’Clearly, the person asking this question was enjoying my misery... ’

’He thought the lie detector wasn’t harsh enough, that they needed to bring out the big guns.’

The doctor’s lips curled into a smirk. He took a syringe from a nearby rack. ”To ensure the purity of the drug, the truth serum was sent over by the questioner... The entire process is transparent and has been verified by the organization.”

I struggled violently against the restraints on my wrists. ’Truth serum... Heh. A drug used to interfere with a person’s judgment and cognitive function. In reality, it’s just a sedative anesthetic...’

I took a deep breath and looked at the screen.

My fingers tapped absently on the armrest of the chair.

’I’m not sure if Asher and Felix Foster can see this live broadcast...’

”Ngh...” The doctor injected the drug into me when I was completely off guard.

Once this drug enters the bloodstream, a person loses consciousness within three seconds.

The brain ceases to think consciously.

”Who told you to pretend to be Cecilia Caldwell? Who told you to imitate Cecilia Caldwell?” A question from one of the tycoons appeared on the screen.

The doctor yanked my hair, forcing me to answer.

’I know... they’re all watching. More than anyone, the people in the organization want me to be the real Cecilia Caldwell.’

’And I *have* to be Cecilia Caldwell... ’

’If I’m not Cecilia Caldwell, I’ll lose my value. And the price for losing my value is being ’retrieved and disposed of’ by the organization.’

’So, I must be Cecilia Caldwell.’

My survival instinct made me struggle, but my brain was no longer under my control. I had no idea what answers I was giving.

The harsh buzzing of machinery filled my ears as my consciousness faded.

When I woke up again, I was locked in a module-like experimental chamber.

Here, there were transparent labs one after another, each housing a different test subject.

We were like lab rats, trapped inside for observation.

I slammed my hands against the transparent wall, looking around furiously.

’I don’t know how many questions they asked me after injecting the truth serum, nor do I know how I answered...’

’If I’m really not Cecilia Caldwell... have I already been exposed?’

I was scared. I sat on the bed, biting my finger.

Soon, I calmed down. ’If I had truly lost my value, they probably wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of locking me up again.’

CLANG CLANG CLANG... Suddenly, a bell rang throughout the experimental bay.

I looked around, bewildered. In the transparent pods, everyone dressed in white patient gowns stood up. They were like perfectly trained pet dogs, waiting for the food that would be delivered after the bell.

My expression turned grim. ’Objectification training... They don’t treat the test subjects as human at all.’

I counted the test subjects in this bay. Besides me, there were eight others: three men and five women.

Two of the female test subjects had swollen bellies. Clearly, the fetuses inside them were also new test subjects.

The door opened, and the doctor who had tested me earlier walked in with his men. Behind him were staff in protective suits pushing food carts.

The staff placed the food into each pod’s delivery slot, then left.

When they got to my pod, a staff member was just about to put the food in when the doctor stopped them.

Right in front of me, he threw my entire meal into the trash can.
