Cultivation Simulator: Starting From The Empress' Palace

Upon hearing this, Feng Ji looked carefully and then took a deep breath: ”If I remember correctly, this array is called the Turtle Profound Armor Array, and it is specifically used for sieges, as recorded in military books.

General, please look. This array can hide a large number of soldiers under armor shields and leave an opening. Even if there’s a flaw, the soldiers under the armor shields can fill it. The solidity of this array is such that it seems even a thousand troops would struggle to break through. However, this array requires extremely high coordination among the soldiers. I didn’t expect the opposing side could execute it.”

Feng Ji’s expression was quite grave.

How many days has it been, and already we are facing such a difficult and hard-fought battle.

Upon hearing Feng Ji’s words, Chen Mo’s eyes flashed briefly.

This Turtle Profound Armor Array is indeed formidable. Tens of thousands of troops form blocks, with thousands holding armor shields, constantly moving in specific shapes and merging together, like a swiftly moving tortoise.

However, no matter how stubborn the defense, I am determined to break it by force.

”Prepare the Strong Crossbows.” Chen Mo decided to first test the waters with the strong crossbows, as gunpowder was limited and should be conserved unless absolutely necessary.

”Understood.” Gao Zheng went down, and on the city wall, the Order Flag Soldiers waved the command flags and began transmitting Chen Mo’s orders.

”General, they are a thousand steps away.” A general reported the enemy’s distance from the city.

”Wait.” Chen Mo said.

After a while, the general reported again: ”Eight hundred steps now.”

”Wait a little longer.” Chen Mo’s expression remained calm.

”General, six hundred steps now. We can’t wait any longer.” A general urged. The attacking army not only had siege equipment but also materials for bridge-building. If they reached the moat, under the cover of the Turtle Profound Armor Array, they could quickly erect a wooden bridge and reach the base of the city wall, which would be a dead angle for attacks.

”Fire. Prepare the Grenadiers.” Chen Mo issued the order.

Gao Zheng had been waiting, and the moment Chen Mo gave the order, he shouted loudly.

The command flags were also waving continuously.

”Swoosh!”

Unlike the sound of arrows leaving the bowstring, the sound of the crossbow arrows was sharper and even faster.

”Swoosh!”

”Swoosh!”

...

The making of strong crossbow arrows wasn’t as simple as ordinary arrows. It was time-consuming, labor-intensive, and costly, and required a crossbow carriage to shoot, making rain of arrows unrealistic.

But each one could cause substantial damage.

”Bang! Ah ah...”

”Ah...”

The enemy’s armor shields were directly pierced by the crossbow arrows, which drove through the shield-bearing armored warriors, nailing them to the ground.

But the breaches caused by the arrows were quickly filled by other blocks.

Although the crossbow arrows were powerful, they couldn’t cause large-scale damage.

”Just these crossbow arrows, thinking to break my Turtle Profound Armor Array? Utterly delusional.”

In the distance, Zhao Jiang watched this scene, stroking his not-too-long beard with a rather arrogant tone.

”Alliance Leader, mighty indeed. It seems Qinyang County can be broken with a snap.” Someone praised Zhao Jiang, patting his horse.

Zhao Jiang smiled but did not reply. Although he was proud, he could not claim to break Qinyang County with just a snap. If this siege could significantly damage the opponent, that would be a victory.

”This...” Compared to Zhao Jiang’s side, the faces of the generals on the city wall had turned grim.

The strong crossbows had no effect on the Turtle Profound Armor Array.

As they watched the enemy approach step by step, a bloody battle seemed unavoidable.

But inside the armor shields, the enemy archers had already drawn their bows and nocked their arrows, waiting to reach effective range to launch a counterattack.

Yet Chen Mo’s lips curled up slightly.

He slowly raised his hand and then suddenly dropped it.

Immediately, Gao Zheng ordered Chen Mo’s personal soldiers on the city wall to take out black, human-head-sized iron balls from their hands.

True Qi surged from their palms.

”What is this?” Li Yang and others looked at the blackened iron balls, puzzled.

But they were quickly stunned by the power these iron balls unleashed.

A dozen high-explosive bombs successively fell on the armor shields, making a crisp bang, without even putting a dent in the shield, leading the shield-bearers to laugh off the iron balls sliding off the shield to their feet, ignoring them.

But the next second, they paid the price for their disdain.

”Boom!”

”Boom boom!”

”Boom boom boom!”

”...”

A series of explosions rang beneath their feet, deafening everyone present.

Dozens of armored warriors were directly blown away by the blast’s shockwaves, and upon hitting the ground, vomited blood, their lives fading.

Some were blown apart into chunks.

The Profound Turtle Shell Array, resembling a turtle shell, was suddenly opened with more than a dozen large breaches.

Having never seen such high-explosive bombs before, the enemy believed it was divine punishment, causing immediate chaos and panic.

Yet, this was not the end. Seeing the explosive bombs open breaches, Chen Mo hurriedly had them throw fire bottle bombs, as these were in greater supply compared to the high-explosive bombs.

Thus.

”Boom boom!”

”Boom! Boom!”

Two rounds of bombing put the soldiers under the armor shields in turmoil, and they fell one after another, unable to mend the breaches, causing instant chaos in the formation.

”Archers ready!”

”One, two, three, release!”

The number of fire bottle bombs was still limited and had to be conserved. They couldn’t all be used up at once.

With the breach already open, ordinary sharp arrows could now be effective.

”Whizz whizz whizz!”

A dense rain of arrows covered the enemy below.

”Ah, save me...”

”Pfft. Save...”

”Quick, retreat...”

After the two rounds of bombing and the arrow rain, the panicked enemy had no choice but to flee.

In the distance, the allied forces dared not move recklessly, and one by one, their eyes widened, witnessing the siege army’s collapse after a few explosions.

In the short span of less than twenty breaths, the entire battlefield had undergone a tremendous transformation.

Zhao Jiang watched everything happening before him, cold sweat soaking his back.

He had heard about these things from the Vanguard Army.

Yet he never imagined that these strange things would have such power.

Seeing it with his own eyes, it truly amazed him.

If there were thousands of these strange things, even a crack army couldn’t withstand them...

”Retreat.” Zhao Jiang quickly ordered the retreat to avoid further casualties.

”Dong.”

”Dong dong.”

The sound of gongs rang out, signaling the withdrawal of troops.

The allied forces already had a mind to flee. With the sound of the gongs, they retreated without hesitation.

”General, they are retreating. Let me lead the cavalry to pursue them,” a battle-hungry general requested, eager to chase the fleeing enemy.

Chen Mo immediately refused. After all, the main force was still behind.
