Forced Pampering: Haughty Husband, Please Restrain Yourself

Chapter 1406: Chapter 1420: Just Treat Him as If He’s Already Dead

In his eyes, a man like An Youcai was nothing short of human scum.

Thinking of how kind a woman his aunt had been, yet she was deceived by such a man, left pregnant and alone in that kind of remote, impoverished backwater, until she became consumed with grief, fell ill and died in childbirth.

Now that Mu Wanxin was carrying his child, he could all the more deeply feel the joy of becoming a father for the first time and the hardship of his wife’s pregnancy; he simply could not imagine what kind of person could abandon his wife while she was pregnant.

If not for his aunt’s accidental death, his grandmother wouldn’t have died so early, stricken with grief and despair.

And then there was An Ran; he still remembered the first time he met her, that thin, frail figure of hers, the cautiousness hidden in those clear eyes, and how she’d been made things difficult for by Grandpa Lin because of her relationship with Mu Xingfeng.

If An Youcai hadn’t deliberately hidden her away, how could they have just let her wander outside like that?

If An Ran had grown up in the Shen Family, how would she have, at such a young age, suffered so many cold looks and endured so much hardship?

Everything, all of it, stemmed from that despicable, selfish man.

An Ran understood what Shen Wenxuan meant; at this moment, as long as she nodded or gave the slightest hint, whether it was An Youcai or the An Family, they would all be facing utter ruin.

All these years, her mother’s death had always been an unbridgeable chasm in her grandfather’s and uncle’s hearts; the higher and more powerful the Shen Family stood now, the more they brooded over her mother’s death.

Was she really going to drive the An Family to their doom?

An Ran suddenly thought of that scene the last time she ran into An Youcai at Shengde Hospital. He’d looked so much older that day; when he realized she already knew her own origins, the joy in his eyes was impossible to hide, and in the end he had begged her to spare the An Family...

”Ge, I already found out about what you said today when I went to Qingfeng Town. Since Aunt Xia said my father is already dead, then let’s just treat him as if he’s already dead.”

The fists at Shen Wenxuan’s sides clenched and unclenched; from what An Ran said, it was obvious she intended to spare that man.

He knew An Ran was kind and pure by nature; she was simply incapable of doing something like that.

”Alright, I’ll talk to Grandpa and Dad. How long are you planning to stay this time now that you’re back? When will you have time to come to the Shen Family for a visit? Grandpa misses you very much.”

An Ran nodded. ”Okay, I know. When I have time I’ll go see Grandpa, it’s just... please tell Grandpa for me that Xingfeng is injured right now and can’t be left without someone by his side. I’ll have to wait until he’s better before I go.”

Hearing her, Shen Wenxuan let out a chuckle. ”Don’t worry, Grandpa understands and won’t hold it against you. Just remember to take care of yourself while you’re looking after Xingfeng. If the Mu Family’s servants aren’t up to your liking, I can send two people over from the Shen Family?”

”No, no need. The Mu Family’s servants are very good.” An Ran knew that with Mu Xingfeng’s temperament, even if there were servants, he wouldn’t let them serve him that closely.

An Ran returned to the ward. Mu Xingfeng was still asleep. Mu Wanxin happened to have scheduled a prenatal checkup for today, and Shen Wenxuan had pulled her off to the obstetrics and gynecology department.

An Ran sat by the bed, looking at the man whose brows were still faintly furrowed even in sleep. She reached out to smooth his forehead, wondering what on earth he had been through to make him this ill at ease even while lying in a hospital bed.

Footsteps sounded outside. As Lin Junyang pushed the door open, he was briefly startled. ”Tuzi, when did you get back?”

As he spoke, he glanced around the room.

An Ran made a shushing gesture, then stood up and followed him out the door.
