Forced Pampering: Haughty Husband, Please Restrain Yourself

Chapter 142: Chapter 153: Heartache So Intense It Stops My Breath

She had admired Mu Xingfeng since she was young, following his footsteps for nearly twenty years.

But why, when he was always just a turn away, couldn’t he see her?

Lin Ruonan thought that as long as she was good enough to follow his steps, one day he would turn around and see her. But now, he was looking in another direction.

What should she do? The emotions of over ten years were already deeply rooted in her heart. Following Mu Xingfeng’s footsteps had become a habit in her life over the past twenty years. Should she just give up like this? Give up before even getting a chance to start?

Lin Ruonan stared blankly at the streetlight not far away, two lines of clear tears rolling down her beautiful big eyes.

She didn’t know how much time had passed. When the sky in the East began to lighten, the traffic on the road started to increase, and a familiar figure appeared at the entrance of the neighborhood.

Mu Xingfeng, in casual clothes, jogged out of the neighborhood. Only then did Lin Ruonan realize that she had unknowingly sat there all night.

Mu Xingfeng had a habit of morning runs, she knew that. Watching his tall figure stride with agile steps, his stern handsome face softened a bit.

She had never seen this side of Mu Xingfeng before. His cold aura had faded, making people want to approach him.

Is it her? That young girl, does he like her so much that he’s willing to change for her?

About half an hour later, Mu Xingfeng returned with a bag of breakfast: millet porridge, soybean milk, fried dough sticks, and buns—clearly enough for two people. Lin Ruonan felt a pain in her heart that made it hard to breathe. Watching Mu Xingfeng enter the neighborhood, Lin Ruonan started the car and drove away.

When An Ran woke up, it was already bright outside. As she walked out of the bedroom, she saw Mu Xingfeng sitting on the sofa, looking at something on his notebook. Without raising his head at the sound of her, he said, ”There’s breakfast on the table. If it’s cold, heat it up in the microwave. Don’t eat cold food.”

Then, as if remembering something, he raised his head and asked, ”Do you want me to heat it for you?”

An Ran shook her head and said, ”No, I’ll do it myself.”

Mu Xingfeng hummed in response, then continued looking at his notebook.

An Ran went to the dining table, picked up a can of millet porridge, still warm, took a sip, then walked to Mu Xingfeng’s side. She sat on the sofa, watching him work seriously. After a long while, she finally spoke, ”Instructor Mu.”

Mu Xingfeng had sensed the little girl sitting next to him a long time ago. He knew she was looking at him. Although his eyes were on the notebook, his heart had flown to the little girl the moment she arrived.

Hearing the little girl finally speak, he responded indifferently, ”What is it?”

”Why are you so good to me?”

This was something An Ran had always wanted to know. Although Mu Xingfeng had said a few inexplicable things to her before, she never took them seriously. Back then, Mu Xingfeng seemed like a high and cold insulator. Even when he said those things, it didn’t evoke any feelings.

On the contrary, his domineering and forceful attitude made people very uncomfortable. Clearly, his words of affection were executed like a task.

But now, Mu Xingfeng no longer talked about feelings with her, yet he brought her endless warmth. She could feel clearly that he cared for her, took care of her, and tolerated her. This feeling was strange. She had never felt like this when she was with Ye Sheng—a feeling of one hundred percent reliance and trust.
