Reborn Divine Doctor: The Abandoned Girl's Legend

Chapter 856: Chapter 725: The Little Wine Thief

Hua Monk, in broad daylight, was also staggering drunk, his tattered monk’s robe smeared with grease.

As soon as Hua Monk entered the door, he started shouting loudly.

”Waiter, come attend to this master, bring up the best your tavern has to offer.”

His footsteps were a mess, bumping into tables and customers alike, who all hurriedly dodged out of the way.

Upon sighting the monk, the previously smiling shopkeeper and waiters, who had been attending to the guests, had their faces fall.

Especially the shopkeeper, whose face turned as black as the bottom of a pot.

”It’s you again, you mad monk. Didn’t I tell you last time we don’t serve you here! Someone come here, throw him out for me.”

As he spoke, several burly waiters pounced like wolves and tigers, grabbing at Hua Monk’s legs and feet, trying to toss him out.

But the monk, with his stumbling feet, managed to dodge in such a way that the waiters couldn’t even touch the hem of his robe.

Not only that, the monk took the opportunity to snatch a few big drumsticks and tuck them into his embrace before darting away, leaving the shopkeeper cursing incessantly in his wake.

”This monk is somewhat interesting.” Feng Xun stroked his chin. Ye Lingyue shrugged her shoulders. It seemed that the monk didn’t recognize them. Better to mind their own business than to bother, the three of them then left the Four Directions Tavern.

Thinking that the affairs of the Four Directions Tavern would come to an end, little did they expect that by noon the next day, Feng Xun had received news.

”What? The Rainbow Five Treasures Brew has been switched again? Could it be that last night, the shopkeeper did not follow our instructions and have someone watch the wine cellar?”

Ye Lingyue was shocked.

”The people at the Wine House claim they did keep watch, and among the watchers, there was even a Reincarnation Realm powerhouse. They did not close their eyes all night. They guarantee they didn’t see a ghost, let alone a living person,” Feng Xun remarked, amazed.

Once bitten twice shy, the shopkeeper of the Four Directions Tavern, after yesterday, had spared no expense to hire several guards.

Yet it was in vain.

Today, not long after opening, he went to the wine cellar enthusiastically, only to almost faint when he saw it.

In the jars, it was all turned into plain water again.

Feng Xun and Ye Lingyue immediately rushed to the tavern.

Outside the small wine cellar door, the guards were looking at each other, baffled and confused.

The lock on the wine cellar was still hanging there intact, without any signs of tampering.

There were no doors or windows in the cellar. Unless the perpetrator also possessed an unnatural elixir like the Invisibility Elixir, it would have been impossible to switch the wine.

To make matters worse, someone had leaked rumors claiming that Four Directions Tavern was haunted, deterring customers from coming. The usually bustling tavern was now desolate, business plummeting dramatically.

”This can’t go on. Feng Xun, we must find that wine thief at all costs,” Ye Lingyue was also annoyed.

”I think this thief might be out of the ordinary. Think about it, a normal wine thief would just steal the wine, but this one deliberately left a jug of plain water. Why go to such thankless lengths? If you were the thief, would you do that?” Feng Xun analyzed.

”Could it be they have another purpose? But no matter how much we speculate, it’s useless. We must catch the real culprit first. Otherwise, no amount of Rainbow Five Treasures Brew can withstand such thievery,” Ye Lingyue also felt something strange. She vaguely grasped a clue, but couldn’t quite discern it clearly at the moment.

This thief was too bold, whether it was a human or a ghost, she had to catch them.

That night, Ye Lingyue took out several more jars of Rainbow Five Treasures Brew and guarded outside the wine cellar. She and Feng Xun laid in ambush outside, planning to catch the unexpected.

With her current spiritual power, she could hear every rustling of leaves and movement of grass within a ten-mile radius. If a thief entered the wine cellar, even if they took an Invisibility Elixir, she would be able to detect it.

All night, Ye Lingyue’s mind was highly concentrated, she could even hear the grinding of teeth from the Wine House’s waiters as they slept.

The latter half of the night passed, all was calm.

But Ye Lingyue dared not relax her vigilance.

As dawn approached, the thief had yet to show up.

Ye Lingyue rubbed her sore red eyes and pushed open the door of the wine cellar.

”Let’s go in and take a look; I don’t believe that with such tight surveillance, the wine can just vanish into thin air.” Ye Lingyue confidently opened a wine jar.

She was dumbfounded immediately.

A full jar of the Rainbow Five Treasures Brew had once again transformed into plain boiled water.

Ye Lingyue refused to believe this anomaly and opened several more jars—without exception, they all turned into water.

”It’s really cursed; is it possible that there really are ghosts?” Ye Lingyue stared dumbstruck.

If she couldn’t find the wine thief even when guardedly watching, she was out of options.

”You said it right this time, what stole the wine isn’t human.” Feng Xun wandered around the wine cellar, then suddenly opened the last jar of wine.

Instantly, a fragrant aroma filled the wine cellar.

This scent?

Ye Lingyue immediately recognized that this jar was not an ordinary Rainbow Five Treasures Brew; it was the wine essence.

All the wine essence brewed in Ye Lingyue’s Hong Meng Heaven was top-quality Five Treasures Brew, and the Rainbow Five Treasures Brew she provided to the Shopkeeper was also made by mixing one bowl of wine essence with a full jar of water.

Yesterday, she took out a jar of wine essence intending to give it to the Shopkeeper for unforeseen needs.

But unknown to her, Feng Xun had deceived her, instructing the Shopkeeper to mix only half a jar, and he stealthily combined the remaining half of the wine essence with these brews, sealing it in the wine cellar.

All the other jars of Rainbow Five Treasures had turned into plain boiled water, but only this half jar of wine essence remained intact.

To be precise, other than something extra found inside the wine, this half jar remained perfect, with no changes whatsoever.

Ye Lingyue and Feng Xun looked at the half jar of wine essence within the jar. Ye Lingyue reached out and plucked a plump bug that was floating on top of the wine essence.

”What in the world is this?”

Ye Lingyue stared at the bug, sound asleep and red all over. This thing felt squishy to the touch, half the size of Ye Lingyue’s fingernail. If one didn’t look closely, it almost resembled a small piece of jade carving.

But from the twitching antenna on top of the little bug’s head, it was clear this was a living insect.

”If I’m not mistaken, this is the wine thief, or to be more exact, an accomplice to the wine thief. As for the real wine thief, once this little fellow wakes up, we will naturally be able to interrogate it,” Feng Xun said with a smile, pointing at the lids of several wine jars.

Ye Lingyue looked down and realized that Feng Xun had, at some point, covertly sprinkled a layer of Lime Powder on the sealing area of the jars.

There were faint traces left on the seals, similar traces present on every wine jar lid.
