Reborn Divine Doctor: The Abandoned Girl's Legend

Chapter 855: Chapter 724: Paranormal Incident

At this moment, Lie Xuyang also took a sip of wine.

Upon tasting, he fiercely smashed his wine cup onto the ground.

”What kind of lousy wine is this, it has no taste of alcohol at all.”

The shopkeeper hurriedly scurried over.

”Esteemed guest, what seems to be wrong with the wine?”

”Try it yourself. This is not wine, it’s clearly just plain boiled water. Ha, I thought the tavern under Feng Residence was something special, but it turns out they’re just fooling people, passing off plain water as Five Treasures Brew, who are they trying to deceive?” Lie Xuyang yelled loudly.

Many tavern-goers began to murmur among themselves upon hearing this.

Feng Xun and Ye Lingyue were also puzzled, and upon inspecting the wine they had ordered, they realized that the Rainbow Five Treasures inside indeed resembled plain water, without the slightest hint of wine.

Ye Lingyue and Lan Cai’er had been managing a wine trade business together; the recipe for brewing a normal Five Treasures Brew was already passed on to Lan Cai’er and her team of brewers.

Only the Rainbow Five Treasures Brew, because it requires the use of Rainbow Creek Water and the Spiritual Energy of Hong Meng Heaven, remained Ye Lingyue’s closely guarded secret.

Every month, Ye Lingyue would only provide Lan Cai’er with exactly one thousand pots, which Lan Cai’er would then transport and distribute to different taverns as needed.

The tavern business in Sifang City had been developed by Feng Xun just over the past two or three years, and it was only this month that the Rainbow Five Treasures Brew had first been supplied.

In the whole city, the Four Directions Tavern was the exclusive provider, with the tavern only having ten pots in total.

Because of its scarcity, the Rainbow Five Treasures Brew was priced much higher than the standard Five Treasures Brew and was only available to certain patrons; today, only Lie Xuyang and Ye Lingyue had ordered it.

Once the shopkeeper heard this, he grew anxious, and promptly ordered someone to open every pot of Rainbow Five Treasures Brew in the wine cellar, only to find that the wine had all turned into plain water.

The shopkeeper was immediately struck dumb.

”Brother Lie, today’s incident is the fault of the Four Directions Tavern. I’ve heard that your sect is acquiring a Fiery Sun Stone mine, which happens to be under the Feng Residence’s name. Feng is willing to sell the mine at a ten percent discount to your sect.” Feng Xun, seeing Lie Xuyang’s unforgiving demeanor, stepped forward and said a few words.

Upon hearing about the Fiery Sun Stone mine, Lie Xuyang’s expression loosened, as if he had changed faces, and he put on a smiling face.

”Brother Feng is too polite, so it turns out that the mine is also Brother Feng’s property, then thank you very much, Brother Feng.”

As he spoke, Lie Xuyang’s face was full of smiles as he, along with a displeased Hong Mingyue, resumed their meal.

Feng Xun and Ye Lingyue also lost their appetite and followed the shopkeeper into a private room in the tavern.

”Feng Xun, why did you cheapen yourself to Lie Xuyang? It’s just a pot of Rainbow Five Treasures Brew, and you actually used a mine to apologize and make reparations. When did you become so wasteful?” It was only now that Ye Lingyue learned that Feng Residence was involved in mining deals.

She could not understand why Feng Xun, who was always adept at running businesses, was being so generous this time.

”The Fiery Sun Stone within that mine may seem of high quality. But in fact, due to groundwater contamination, they are all mixed with impurities. The disciples of Pure Yang Sect need Fiery Sun Stone to enhance their Inner Strength; using these Fiery Sun Stones, in less than ten years, Pure Yang Sect is bound to vanish from the list of the Nine Sects.” Feng Xun said with a smile.

Ye Lingyue finally understood, her earlier confusion vanished in an instant, and at the same time, she was also taken aback by Feng Xun’s decisive way of handling issues.

”Feng Xun, Lie Xuyang merely belittled the Feng Residence a few times, and you went this far to wipe him out. Isn’t that a bit too cruel?”

”It’s not about him belittling the Feng Residence, but he should have never, ever conflated you with Hong Mingyue.” Feng Xun’s gaze grew a few shades darker.

Ye Lingyue had a realization in her heart; she knew then that Feng Xun’s real concern was her.

While Ye Lingyue and Feng Xun were talking, the Shopkeeper of the Four Directions Tavern had already ordered his men to move out all the Rainbow Five Treasures from the cellar.

”Family Head, things have really gone awry this time. I’ve had it investigated, and no one in the tavern has touched the Rainbow Five Treasures Brew, but these wines have all been switched. Out of those ten jars of Rainbow Five Treasures, five were reserved by the City Lord’s Mansion, supposedly for celebrating the upcoming World’s First Refining event a few days from now. Without the wine, I’m afraid it’ll be difficult to explain.” The Shopkeeper, seeing Feng Xun, had a deeply troubled look.

He also knew that the Family Head, despite being young, had always been clear about rewards and punishments. Having caused such a disaster this time, almost ruining the reputation of the Four Directions Tavern, if he didn’t provide an explanation, remaining as the Shopkeeper would be the least of his worries; more importantly, it might affect the other industries of the Feng Residence in Sifang City.

Ye Lingyue also inspected those jars of wine, which indeed turned out to be as plain as water, completely devoid of any scent of wine.

”Feng Xun, there is something strange about this. Shopkeeper, take us to the cellar to have a look,” Ye Lingyue and Feng Xun examined the cellar.

Due to the extreme preciousness of the Rainbow Five Treasures, and only ten jars being in existence—with half reserved for the City Lord’s Mansion—the Shopkeeper had always been very cautious.

The cellar where the Rainbow Five Treasures was stored was dug as a separate, smaller storage space.

The rest of the wines were placed in another larger cellar, and there was no issue with any of those wines.

The only problem had occurred in the small cellar.

”This key to the cellar, I have always kept it close, never leaving my side. I can swear on the lives of my entire household that no one has been to this cellar.”

The Shopkeeper took Ye Lingyue and Feng Xun around the inside and outside of the cellar several times, and indeed there was no trace of anyone having been there.

”You don’t need to worry about the Five Treasures for the City Lord’s Mansion; I will have someone replenish it later. However, for safety’s sake, I will have someone guard it closely tonight,” Ye Lingyue concluded after the inspection, with no leads to follow.

In her Hong Meng Heaven, she still had enough Rainbow Five Treasures Brew, but the inexplicable disappearance of the wine made Ye Lingyue feel there was something peculiar.

It was then that the Shopkeeper learned that Ye Lingyue was the Brewer of the Rainbow Five Treasures, and his gratitude further increased his respect for her.

”By the way, Shopkeeper, has there been anything unusual happening in the tavern lately?” Feng Xun asked before leaving.

The Shopkeeper shook his head, indicating that the tavern’s business was very normal, and aside from this incident of the Rainbow Five Treasures turning inexplicably into plain water, there had been no other irregularities.

Ye Lingyue and Feng Xun did not inquire further; they left with Long Baobao.

Just as they reached the entrance of the tavern, they were hit by a foul smell. The customers who had been dining and drinking all began to complain uncontrollably.

”Where did this beggar come from? How many days has it been since he last bathed that he dares to come and eat in the tavern?”

Ye Lingyue and Feng Xun looked over and upon seeing the newcomer, Ye Lingyue couldn’t help but frown.

It wasn’t so much that she was put off by the man’s stench, but rather, the man was the same drunken Hua Monk she and Long Baobao had encountered earlier when they had sneaked into the Demon Awakening Gate and were about to slip away.
