Reborn Divine Doctor: The Abandoned Girl's Legend

Chapter 366: Chapter 236: Direct Confrontation—Who Is More Ruthless

As it isn’t winter, the quantity of firewood in Dan City was naturally small.

After the Alchemist Mansion intervened to purchase firewood, Vice Manager Cui issued a restriction order.

Even the alchemists within the Alchemist Mansion could use at most ten jin of firewood per day, as for the households’ usage of firewood, it needed to be registered within the Alchemist Mansion.

The establishment of the Medical Hall was also widely praised in the city, the commoners not only received Elixir Pills but could also seek medical treatment at a low cost, momentarily, the approval of the Alchemist Mansion flowed like a tide within the city.

A mere few days after Ye Lingyue’s two initiatives were released, they stirred up a tumult in Dan City that could be described as an earthquake.

Especially after controlling the firewood, the supply of firewood within Dan City suddenly became strained.

Late at night, several tall and thin alchemists dressed in Alchemist Robes stealthily left Dan City.

On a moonless, windy night in a remote part of the Xixia Plain, a middle-aged man stood inside several houses.

The man, about forty years old, had a sallow complexion, was as thin as kindling, and wore his hair in a bun, resembling a male Taoist, surrounded by several other alchemists.

From the Alchemist Robes, it could be told that these people were not alchemists of Daxia.

Upon seeing the male Taoist, the alchemists all knelt down together, their faces full of worry.

”Elder, it has been seven days already, our brothers have no firewood for Alchemy and Artifact Refining, and without any income, they are almost out of provisions.”

As Ye Lingyue had previously uncovered, these were the Evil Alchemists who had infiltrated Daxia from the regions of Central Plains.

Continuous conflicts in the Central Plains had already left the area poverty-stricken, these alchemists from various small sects, unable to make a living in the Central Plains, learned about the prosperity of Daxia and the lax governance far away from the court in Xixia, and quietly moved to Xixia hoping to survive.

They gathered together and formed a sect called Jin Wu Sect, this middle-aged male Taoist known as Jin Wu Wanderer, served as the Housekeeper Elder of Jin Wu Sect in the Dan City area.

”General Su, how do you explain this! You promised us the freedom to sell Elixir Pills in Dan City.” Jin Wu Wanderer said angrily.

In the room, a tall figure strode out from a dim corner.

Su Mu, the City Guardian General of Dan City, stepped forward.

”This matter, I too only learned of recently, if blame must be assigned, it falls upon the new Cauldron Master in Dan City.” General Su said grimly.

It turned out that Su Mu had long been colluding with the Central Plains Evil Force, hence when Ye Lingyue proposed to eradicate the Evil Alchemists from the city, he flatly refused.

Su Mu and Jin Wu Wanderer had already made private agreements; Elixir Pills sold by Jin Wu Sect were split fifty-fifty, and with this hefty share, Su Mu received a significant profit.

Ye Lingyue’s two initiatives also caused heavy losses for Su Mu.

”Jin Wu Wanderer, it’s a shame you are still an Elder of Jin Wu Sect. If you don’t recieve charcoal, can’t you think of ways to steal it? This is a secret map of the charcoal transport routes in Dan City.” Su Mu unwillingly let Ye Lingyue completely cut off his source of wealth.

”Master, vehicles carrying charcoal outside the city have been hijacked, and the alchemists escorting the vehicles suffered four casualties.”

That day, Ye Lingyue received bad news.

With a looming battle with Su Mu, Ye Lingyue knew that even a quarter of an hour was precious.

The enemy knows, I conceal; those Evil Alchemists are hidden in Dan City and the outskirts, making it very difficult to eradicate them altogether.

This time, Ye Lingyue wants to force them to come to her.

”Those people, indeed they couldn’t stand it anymore.” Ye Lingyue wasn’t too surprised when she received the news.

When she issued the order, she had already anticipated that desperate dogs would jump over the wall; that group of Evil Alchemists couldn’t last many days without a source of income.

What made Ye Lingyue even more annoyed was that she knew the plains were uneasy recently, and this transportation had been cautioned to be secret.

The route for transporting charcoal had been very secretive, known only to a very few people in the Alchemist Mansion and a few related individuals in the General Mansion.

The General Mansion only sent two or three soldiers for the transportation of charcoal, and those two or three soldiers fled immediately after the robbery occurred.

Ye Lingyue didn’t need to investigate to understand that this so-called robbery was clearly a setup from inside and out.

It seems like the time has come to completely break with Su Mu.

Ye Lingyue’s brow tightened, her determination quietly set.

After the charcoal was hijacked, there was an initial burst of joy and celebration within the Jin Wu Sect.

But their happiness did not last long, as these Evil Alchemists soon discovered that the strugglingly snatched charcoal was unusable.

”Elder, this charcoal is all smoke charcoal; dry on the outside, wet on the inside—it constantly emits smoke when lit, and many brothers feel uncomfortable, vomiting and nauseous after using it,” the Evil Alchemists reported with frowns.

The Jin Wu Wanderer was shocked and hastened to transport the charcoal over for closer examination, so furious that the Jin Wu Wanderer almost suffered from fits.

”Such a wicked tactic, this is clearly poisoned charcoal; the enemy must have known that we were going to intercept the charcoal and set this trap,” the Jin Wu Wanderer raged, holding a deep grudge against the new Master in Dan City. ”General Su, this is the charcoal you informed us about after the robbery; this time, our Jin Wu Sect has really been harmed by you.”

Using the poisoned charcoal, half of the Evil Alchemists in the Jin Wu Sect fell ill, and the Jin Wu Wanderer was overwhelmed just trying to treat them.

”Such a Ye Lingyue, you’ve even fooled this General.” In his anger, General Su crushed the poisoned charcoal into powder with his hand.

”General Su, don’t blame me for not warning you, if you don’t think of a way to help us eliminate that new Controller, we might as well part ways. If I expose your deeds to the Daxia Court, you won’t have good days ahead either,” the Jin Wu Wanderer was also pushed to the brink, considering his not insignificant reputation in the Central Plains.

Who would have expected that after coming to Daxia, instead, he’d be bullied by a teenage girl.

This indignation, if not released, the Jin Wu Wanderer truly couldn’t quell the hatred in his heart.

”Jin Wu Wanderer, what do you mean by this? That woman has cut off my wealth and harmed my subordinates, I’m even more eager to finish her off than you. But after all, she is an Imperial Mandate, directly appointed Fourth-grade Chief by the court. If I act in the city, it will surely raise suspicion. However, if Master Ye happens to be killed by an assassin within the Alchemist Mansion, then that has nothing to do with me,” General Su slowly said.

Hearing this, the Jin Wu Wanderer’s eyes suddenly lit up.

”What do you mean, General?”

”After Master Ye arrived in Dan City, she has accumulated many enemies, it wouldn’t be surprising if one or two enemies came looking for her. In a few days, it will be Family Visiting Day at the Alchemist Mansion, and at that time, eight or nine out of ten Alchemists there will return home,” General Su said with profound implications.

The Jin Wu Wanderer and he exchanged a knowing glance, immediately understanding each other.

Ye Lingyue, you’ve brought this upon yourself.

General Su smirked sinisterly.
