Transmigrating Into a Book, the Villain Becomes the White Moonlight!

40: Chapter 4 When did I hand in my homework?Instantly, he met a pair of icy eyes.

Lin Wan had appeared behind him at some point, her face pale, her pearly teeth biting her lower lip, her chest rising and falling slightly. The chill in her eyes was almost enough to freeze him on the spot.

”What do you want?” Su Bai’s brows immediately furrowed, his tone filled with undisguised impatience.

What was wrong with this so-called female protagonist?

Couldn’t she see that he had ’refuse to communicate’ written all over him?

Yet she still insisted on approaching him again and again.

”Where’s the homework?” Lin Wan clenched her hands at her sides, trying to make her voice sound calm.

”Damn it,” Su Bai almost laughed in anger, ”I’ve been in school for a year, when have you ever seen me turn in homework? Are you okay?”

He found Lin Wan utterly unreasonable. He turned his head, intending to call Zhou Feng and the others to continue their game, only to realize that the circle of boys who had been packed tightly around them earlier had now quietly scurried back to their seats like mice seeing a cat.

A few of the more exaggerated ones were even sitting upright, holding textbooks, mumbling to themselves, pretending to be diligently reading aloud in the morning. Only the furtive glances they cast revealed their close attention to the goings-on here.

His good game had been interrupted, and he was inexplicably being hounded for non-existent homework. A surge of irritation flared up in Su Bai’s heart.

He abruptly stood up, the chair legs scraping against the floor with a harsh sound. Without even glancing at Lin Wan, he walked straight back to his seat.

Lin Wan pursed her lips and followed behind him.

There was nothing she could do; they were deskmates after all.

Su Bai paused deliberately by his seat, stepping aside to make way and signaling Lin Wan to go in. His actions held a deliberate, distancing politeness before he sat down heavily.

”This weekend, I’m going to the Orphanage in the West District.” Lin Wan forcibly suppressed the humiliation of being rebuffed by Su Bai earlier, took a deep breath, and spoke again.

This was the real reason she sought him out today.

”Go ahead.” Su Bai replied carelessly, not even lifting his head, as if it were a trivial matter completely unrelated to him.

Although Su Zheng had publicly announced to the media that the Su Corporation Medical’s funding assistance program would be handled by Su Bai, in reality, over the past year, Su Bai had personally intervened in very few matters. Most specific tasks were directly handed over to Butler Fu.

He himself rarely appeared at relevant events, completely unlike Lin Wan, who had almost made it her career, even seeming obsessed to some people.

Lin Wan wanted to directly say, ’You should come with me,’ but every time she faced Su Bai’s cold, almost indifferent attitude, all the words on the tip of her tongue would be forcefully pushed back down by an invisible power.

It was only because of the special circumstances this time that she had no choice but to speak to Su Bai.

”This weekend... reporters will be coming to follow up on the story. As the nominal person in charge, you need to appear.” Lin Wan tried to make her tone sound businesslike.

”I have plans this weekend.” Su Bai refused straightforwardly.

”What plans do you have? Is chatting and joking with those boys considered important business?”

Suppressed anger and grievance overwhelmed her reason. Lin Wan couldn’t help but raise her voice, her words bursting out with a hint of gritted teeth.

This time, Su Bai was thoroughly ignited.

He abruptly turned around, his dark eyes sharply fixed on Lin Wan. His voice wasn’t loud, but every word carried a chilling edge: ”Lin Wan, are you sick? What I do, does it concern you in the slightest? Yes, I’m not like you, using family money to do charity everywhere, putting on a show of compassion and superiority. But at least I’m not spending family money to gain such a false reputation!”

”I’m superior? Su Bai, get it straight, who has always been superior here!”

That phrase ’putting on a show’ pierced Lin Wan’s heart like a needle, and the long-accumulated grievances instantly burst forth.

”Since the beginning of school until now, have you ever spoken a single word to me voluntarily? Not once! Yes, you haven’t directly spent family money on charity, but your identity as the Su Family’s Young Master, everything you enjoy, doesn’t it all come from the Su Family? What right do you have to criticize me here?”

A sense of disappointment welled up from the bottom of her heart.

Regardless, she was still his nominal fiancée, a fact almost universally known in A City’s high society.

But Su Bai?

Forget the tenderness of a fiancé; he had never even given her a single good look, as if she were some kind of plague to be avoided.

Lin Wan knew better than anyone that it was precisely because of this marriage alliance with the Su Family that the Lin Family was able to breathe after that crisis, and even barely maintain its current situation.

She had overheard private conversations in other companies that her own company could survive entirely because it had latched onto the Su Family, a towering tree.

And the most crucial link in this was her engagement to Su Bai.

A year ago, she might have still harbored girlish fantasies and resistance towards this marriage, but now, she considered family responsibility more.

Marrying Su Bai had become her default choice for sharing the family’s burden; she had long since realized this.

Moreover, she always remembered that afternoon a year ago, when Su Bai had raced against others on the sports field for her. Although his attitude was still lazy, he had indeed stood up for her.

This incident, like a tiny spark, had always been buried deep in her heart.

But why? Why, ever since then, had Su Bai not even been willing to look her in the eye? What had she done wrong?

”I’m criticizing you?” Su Bai sounded as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world, his voice suddenly rising, causing a few students in the front row who were pretending to read to flinch.

”Lin Wan, get it straight! If it weren’t for our Su Family, if it weren’t for this situation that you and I both know about, your family’s mess would have gone bankrupt and been liquidated long ago! What, now you feel wronged? Do you really need the whole world to revolve around you, everyone to praise you and fawn over you like the original... like those brainless media, just to feel a sense of accomplishment?”

Su Bai quickly corrected himself, leaning forward slightly, his voice lowered a bit but with deeper mockery: ”Don’t put on a tragic show for me here. Honestly, don’t you hate this damn engagement? Don’t you feel constrained?”

Yes, although Su Bai knew nothing about the specific plot of this novel, he could imagine his character’s original fate with his toes—it was nothing more than the Lin Family encountering a crisis, and then he, the foolish son of the Su Family, from high school to university, would fawn over Lin Wan like a simp, frantically using the Su Family’s resources and money to forcefully prop up the dying Lin Family into a towering tree.

And the result? The result would surely be Lin Wan’s disgust.
