Chapter 210: Chapter 191: I… I’m Not Afraid of Him

“CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP…”

The next morning, the chirping of birds from the mountain forest echoed from the peak, sounding somewhat noisy.

The girl lying on the bed furrowed her brow and slowly opened her eyes.

She glanced at the sky; it was well past dawn.

She was about to push herself up when a sharp pain shot through her palm the moment it pressed against the bedboard.

“Damn it! Damn it, damn it!”

The pain in her palm reminded Yu Yunwei of the beating she had taken yesterday.

She angrily hurled her pillow off the bed.

“You tell me to get up, so I should just get up? I’m not going!”

Yu Yunwei flopped back onto the bed in a huff, her shoulders heaving with anger.

But just as she closed her eyes, intending to go back to sleep, the image of Xiao Mo’s cold gaze and his words, “Don’t make me come to your room to get you,” flashed through her mind.

After tossing and turning for a dozen breaths, Yu Yunwei finally gritted her teeth and sat up.

’I’ll see what kind of tricks you have up your sleeve!’

Climbing out of bed, Yu Yunwei huffily put on her dress and stormed out into the courtyard.

After washing up, Yu Yunwei sat on a stone bench in the courtyard, glaring at Xiao Mo’s room.

If looks could kill, Xiao Mo would have been killed by Yu Yunwei countless times over.

Right on cue, Xiao Mo’s door opened. Yu Yunwei flinched, her heart began to race, and a nameless fear spread through her.

’I… I’m not afraid of him!’ Yu Yunwei tried to encourage herself. She shook her head forcefully and continued to glare viciously at Xiao Mo.

Xiao Mo paid her no mind.

After fetching water and washing up, Xiao Mo took out several books from his Storage Pouch and placed them on the stone table in the courtyard.

“What… What are these?” Yu Yunwei blinked blankly.

“Some classics from the Hundred Schools of Thought, but mostly from the Confucian School,” Xiao Mo said, sitting down in front of her. “From today on, I will teach you to read.”

“Read?” Yu Yunwei wondered if she had misheard. “You’re going to teach me to read?”

Xiao Mo nodded. “Don’t worry. Although my own scholarship isn’t profound, teaching you should be no problem.”

“But… we’re disciples of the Demon Sect! Forget the Demon Sect—in the entire Western Regions, almost no one cultivates the Confucian Dao!” Yu Yunwei laughed in exasperation, thinking her senior brother must have lost his mind.

“Who says reading means you must follow the Confucian Dao?” Xiao Mo wasn’t angry in the slightest. “Reading can cultivate the mind and help you understand some principles.”

“I won’t read!” Yu Yunwei turned her head away, her tone firm.

“It’s not up to you.” Xiao Mo picked up a book and placed it in front of her. “Today, we’ll start with *The Analects*.”

“I said, I won’t read!” Yu Yunwei stood up and shouted.

Ever since they had completely dropped all pretenses the previous night, Yu Yunwei had stopped acting like a docile junior sister around Xiao Mo.

“Sit down,” Xiao Mo said in an even voice.

“You…”

“Sit down,” Xiao Mo repeated, raising his head to meet her eyes. “I’ve said it before. Certain things, I never say a third time.”

Yu Yunwei’s breathing grew ragged with anger.

But in the next moment, she felt an ocean of Blood Evil Qi engulfing her.

She had no doubt that if he said it a third time, her head would be rolling on the ground.

Yu Yunwei clenched her fists. After a moment of internal struggle, she finally sat down beside Xiao Mo.

“Very good.” Xiao Mo nodded. “Open the book and read after me. The Master said, ’To learn and to practice what one has learned, is this not a pleasure?’”

Yu Yunwei kept her thin lips pressed tightly together.

“Read,” Xiao Mo repeated, his voice calm but carrying an undeniable command.

“The… The Master said… to learn… and to practice what one has learned… is this not… is this not a pleasure…” Yu Yunwei recited, word by word.

“Continue. ’To have friends come from afar, is this not a joy?’”

“To… to have friends come from afar…”

Time passed, second by second, and the sound of a boy and a girl reading aloud echoed through the courtyard.

The boy would recite a line, and the girl would repeat it after him.

Then the boy would explain the meaning of the sentence to her.

Although Yu Yunwei wanted to resist the entire time, she knew that if she refused to read, she probably wouldn’t live to see the afternoon.

To this day, Yu Yunwei found herself understanding Xiao Mo less and less.

He was clearly only a Cultivator at the Cave Mansion Realm, yet he could slay a Golden Core Realm Cultivator with a single strike.

He clearly wanted to discipline her, but at times, she could feel his genuine killing intent directed at her.

He was clearly a disciple of the Demon Sect, yet he was teaching her Confucian classics.

He was clearly a child, just like her, yet she felt he was like an adult.

「The sun climbed high into the sky.」

Blood Demon woke up. As she stepped out of her room, she heard the sound of someone reading.

She yawned and turned to look.

When she saw Xiao Mo teaching Yu Yunwei how to read, Blood Demon was stunned.

She even wondered if she was still half-asleep.

’Here, in the Western Regions, within the Wandao Sect—one of the Ten Great Demon Sects—on my very own Blood Sin Peak…’

’My eldest disciple is teaching my second disciple Confucian classics?’

However, as Blood Demon watched Yu Yunwei, who looked unwilling to study but forced to do so anyway, and then looked at Xiao Mo, teaching with such a serious expression, a smile crept onto her lips. She found the scene quite amusing.

When the hour came, Xiao Mo closed the book. “That’s enough for today. We’ll continue tomorrow.”

“We have to do this again tomorrow?” Yu Yunwei, who had just felt a sense of liberation, frowned deeply.

Xiao Mo glanced at her. “From now on, you will read every day. In addition, every evening, I will instruct you in the etiquette of the Confucian School.”

Yu Yunwei: “…”

“Did you hear me?” Xiao Mo asked.

“I! Heard! You!”

Yu Yunwei spun around viciously, stormed into her room like a puffed-up little hen, and slammed the door shut.

“Hehehehe…”

The moment Yu Yunwei was back in her room, Blood Demon’s laughter drifted over.

A fragrant breeze wafted by.

Blood Demon sat down in front of Xiao Mo. She playfully flipped through *The Analects*, her long legs crossed. “You’re teaching her to read?”

“Is there a problem?” Xiao Mo asked.

“How you teach her is your business. I’m not getting involved,” Blood Demon said nonchalantly. “But then again, I’m surprised she’s actually listening to you.”

“She’s afraid of dying.” Xiao Mo took the book from Blood Demon’s hands and put it back in his Storage Pouch.

“And what if she wasn’t afraid of dying? What if she insisted on defying you to the bitter end?”

Blood Demon propped her elbows on the table, rested her chin in her palm, and looked at Xiao Mo with a half-smile.

“Would you kill her?”

Xiao Mo looked up. “What do you think?”

“Hahahaha…” Blood Demon ruffled his hair, stood up, and tossed a letter onto the table.

“What’s this?” Xiao Mo asked.

“A list of the people who want to kill you,” Blood Demon answered.

“Yesterday, you killed a disciple from Cloud Pattern Peak who was two realms above you. That attracted a lot of attention. They also know you’ll be participating in the Saint Heir selection, so they’re planning to join forces and kill you first, to prevent you from becoming a major threat in the future.”

“And?”

Xiao Mo picked up the envelope.

Blood Demon’s eyes curved into a smile.

“Kill them all.”
