Stockpiling for an Exiled General Through My Store's Back Door

Chapter 168: Chapter 168: Busy

By this time, Ling Yunge and Xu Panqing had also hurried over. Looking at the chosen house, their eyes were filled with satisfaction.

They walked into their new home and began to clean and decorate. They wiped the windows and swept the floors, making the rooms neat and tidy. They even found some items outside to arrange the space into something warm and cozy. Although these houses weren’t luxurious, to them, this was a new beginning—a home that could shelter them from the wind and rain.

By now, the others had also made their selections. Naturally, quite a few conflicts had broken out. One family with many members wanted a larger house, but having been beaten to it, they started throwing a tantrum. Another family wanted a house near the mountain but had run too slowly; when they tried to trade with someone else, the other party demanded conditions, leading to yet another argument. Endless disputes of this nature were breaking out everywhere.

This was where the village chief and the clan head came into play. They had been waiting on the sidelines for a while, ready to have a field day. It had been a long time since they had managed anyone in the village, and now that such a large group of people had arrived for them to govern, the two old men were beyond excited.

They exchanged a glance, rolled up their sleeves, and marched off to ”uphold justice.” Seeing the beaming expressions on the village chief and clan head’s faces, the villagers behind them couldn’t help but cover their mouths and snicker.

Ling Qianjun and his group paid no attention to the ”lawsuits” over there. They had to work hard to tidy up their new house, or they wouldn’t be able to sleep there tonight.

Ling Qianjun had previously asked the village chief and learned that the trees on the village’s mountain belonged to the village and could be logged. So, he went up the mountain to chop wood. As for an axe, he had to borrow one from the locals. While at it, he also borrowed saws, hammers, and other tools for making furniture. The villagers were very easygoing and lent the tools as soon as he asked, only requesting that they be returned by nightfall.

Taking the axe, Ling Qianjun headed up the mountain. He had to chop enough wood tonight to make two beds, a table, stools, as well as doors and windows. He found a dense patch of woods and began to chop. He swung the axe, striking again and again until sweat soaked through his clothes. His arms ached, but he didn’t stop. He knew he had to speed up.

Finally, after felling enough trees, he dragged the logs back home and began crafting the furniture. Ling Qianjun used the saw to cut the wood to the appropriate lengths, then prepared to use the axe and hammer to fashion them into beds, a table, stools, doors, and windows.

Seeing Ling Qianjun making furniture, Ling Qianfan humbly stepped forward to help, even though he knew nothing about woodworking. As a result, he smashed his own finger with the hammer, howling in pain.

Hearing the miserable cries, Ling Qianjun quickly put down his tools and ran over to check the situation. Seeing the blood streaming from Ling Qianfan’s finger, his heart ached.

”How could you be so careless!” Ling Qianjun scolded him, hurrying to find some gauze and medicine to bandage the wound.

These supplies were ones he had previously brought from the supermarket. He had kept the remaining bit on him without using it, and now it had finally come in handy. However, the medicine was almost out. Ling Qianjun realized he would have to visit Hua Buwan’s supermarket tonight; they needed far too many things here.

In addition, he also wanted to bring Hua Buwan over to see their new home in Lingnan, but only after it was fully cleaned. Otherwise, letting her see it in its current messy state would be pointless. Therefore, he had to hurry.
