Chapter 843: Chapter 844: Counterattack in Desperation

Lin Chen’s words left Zhao Ying incredulous: ”What plan do you have to defeat the women’s basketball team from the east?”

”The time is not right now, let’s wait for the halftime break!” Lin Chen said indifferently.

”What, halftime? By then the score gap will have widened to more than 30 points, how could we possibly have a chance?” Zhao Ying said confusedly.

Lin Chen smiled lightly: ”Trust me, I have a way.”

At this moment, a player yelled: ”Zhao Ying, the coach is setting up the second half tactics.”

Zhao Ying turned her head and said: ”Lin Chen, you should listen too. If there’s anything our coach gets wrong, you can add your input.”

Lin Chen nodded and followed Zhao Ying into the midst of the players.

The coach of the Zhongjiang women’s basketball team, Li Kuan, who is in his forties, clapped his hands and said: ”Girls, you played well in the first quarter, making it to the finals is already a victory for us, the goal for this game is to minimize our loss, and in this quarter, everyone should defend with all their might.”

”All-out defense?” Hearing the coach’s words, Lin Chen almost choked with laughter.

Now Lin Chen finally understood what the biggest weakness of the Zhongjiang women’s basketball team was—it was this head coach.

The score is lagging, the players have only a slim chance if they fight with their backs to the wall, merely defending will only result in being dominated by the opponent, eventually losing morale and the score will be even more disastrous.

”Coach, I think we should go on the offensive with all our might in the second quarter,” Lin Chen spoke up.

”Who is talking nonsense there?” Hearing someone daring to question him, Li Kuan was somewhat displeased.

Lin Chen stood up and said: ”Now the women’s basketball team from the east leads by a large score, they are surely in a relaxed mood, if we suddenly strike back, it will catch them off guard and might disrupt their formation unexpectedly.”

The main coach of Zhongjiang women’s basketball team squinted at Lin Chen: ”Who are you? Who let you in? Get out of the players’ resting area.”

Zhao Ying stood up at this time: ”Coach, Lin Chen is my friend, I invited him to help coach us, and I think what he says makes sense.”

”You!” Li Kuan’s face changed slightly, but he knew he couldn’t afford to offend Zhao Ying.

Zhao Ying has very high prestige in the basketball team, the mainstay of all the players, and could even be regarded as the co-coach of the Zhongjiang women’s basketball team.

Most importantly, it seems Zhao Ying is the niece of a board member of Zhongjiang University, she could easily make him lose his job with just a word.

”Alright, we will go all out on the attack in the second half just as Lin Chen has planned,” Zhao Ying clapped her hands and said.

”A joke, the women’s basketball team from the east is among the top eight teams of Huaxia University’s basketball league, isn’t playing offensively against them just asking for trouble?” Li Kuan said coldly.

”Coach, our score is already behind, we have to give it our all, next quarter we attack fully,” Zhao Ying shouted to the other few players going on field.

The players went on the field, Li Kuan stared coldly at Lin Chen: ”You’re leading them to disaster, our score will definitely lose by more than twenty points in the next quarter, we weren’t going to win anyway, as long as we lose beautifully that would have been enough, but you, you’re just utterly arrogant, actually making them play offensively against the Zhongjiang women’s basketball team.”

Lin Chen said indifferently: ”Since the idea of a match is to win, thinking of losing less before we even start is tantamount to surrendering. I bet that Zhongjiang women’s basketball team will lose by less than ten points.”

”Less than ten points, are you joking? If their score difference isn’t more than ten, I’ll leave the position of the women’s basketball coach to you.”

Lin Chen nodded: ”Alright, if the score difference exceeds ten points, then I’ll immediately leave and apologize to you in front of all the players.”

”That settles it,” Li Kuan said resolutely.

As the match officially commenced, the Zhongjiang women’s basketball team, deviating from their usual style, suddenly made a fast break and scored a goal.

Clearly, the women’s basketball team from the east hadn’t expected the usually timid Zhongjiang women’s basketball team to suddenly change their style, and were quite unprepared.

At the start, Huaxia University women’s basketball team was surprisingly hit by Zhongjiang University with a mini spurt of 6-2, changing the score to 18-25.

This situation was somewhat unexpected for Li Kuan.

Actually, the strength of Zhongjiang University women’s basketball team indeed has a gap with that of Huaxia, but the gap was not that large, it was his conservative tactics that widened this gap.

However, Huaxia women’s basketball team, being superior after all, quickly adjusted their tactics, launching a counterattack and once again stretching the score to 20-31.

The team’s morale, which had just picked up, was once again crushed by Huaxia women’s basketball team.

Zhao Ying frowned for a moment, glancing at Lin Chen.

Just then, she heard Lin Chen’s voice in her ear: ”Next attack, break through from the opposite No. 5 position, her left foot is injured, break from her left side, don’t fear her, with your ability you will certainly overcome her.”

Zhao Ying was stunned for a moment; Lin Chen was clearly several meters away, yet his voice seemed as though it was right beside her.

However, the ball had already been passed to her hands, and Zhao Ying could not afford to think further, quickly dribbling and charging straight towards player number five.

Player number five focused her gaze and stretched out her hands to defend.

Zhao Ying feinted to the left, then swiftly dribbled past, breaking through from the left.

Indeed, player number five’s movement stalled, her face visibly showing pain, seizing this opportunity, Zhao Ying smoothly broke through and scored a beautiful layup, gaining two points.

The court resounded with deafening cheers, some boys even went as far as to tearfully shout slogans: ”Zhao Ying, Zhao Ying, we love you.”

At this point, Zhao Ying was utterly shocked; judging from the reaction of the player number five she had just passed, there was definitely something wrong with her left foot, but how did he know?

The opponent served, and the game continued.

Zhao Ying then heard Lin Chen’s voice again, this time their strategy would be to attack the inside line to pull your defense and then pass to the outside to shoot a three-pointer for player number three.

Although filled with doubts, Zhao Ying still followed Lin Chen’s command, keeping a close watch on the outside position of player number three.

Indeed, after several passes by the Huaxia women’s basketball players, the ball was thrown directly to the unguarded player number three.

Just as player number three was about to catch the ball, suddenly a figure appeared in front of her.

Zhao Ying made a beautiful steal, intercepting the ball, and then followed up with a swift fast break scoring another two points.

On the coach’s bench, Li Kuan was almost dumbfounded, Zhao Ying when did she become so powerful, scoring repeatedly.

However, Huaxia women’s basketball team also noticed Zhao Ying’s sudden spurt, specifically assigned players to defend her, but Zhao Ying still performed heroically, scoring repeatedly.

Under the guidance of Lin Chen, the second quarter finally ended, and the score between Zhongjiang women’s basketball and Huaxia did not widen but narrowed down to 28-35 with only a 7-point difference.

On the coach’s bench, Li Kuan’s face turned iron blue, according to his thoughts, Zhongjiang women’s basketball should have been in a rout, but this quarter they played amazingly well, especially Zhao Ying’s performance, simply perfect.

Lin Chen looked at Li Kuan with a slight smile: ”It seems like you lost.”

Li Kuan with an embarrassed face: ”Alright, I admit the bet, you were luckier, Xiao Ying suddenly burst out.”

Lin Chen smiled lightly: ”It’s not that I am lucky, it’s because these girls are truly outstanding, but don’t worry I won’t take your position as the head coach of Zhongjiang women’s basketball, I’m just commanding this game.”

Watching the girls return excitedly to the rest area, Lin Chen clapped his hands: ”Girls did well, in the next two quarters of the second half, we’re going for a do-or-die comeback.”
