Chapter 811: Chapter 812: Gao Qi’s Worries

Blondie looked behind at Lin Chen with a ferocious grin, ”Kid, are you asking for death? Do you know who I am?”

Lin Chen replied with a faint smile, ”Of course, someone who’s asking for a slap.”

Before Blondie could react, a slap had already landed on his face.

”F*ck, how dare you hit me, get him,” Blondie stumbled to the ground, covering his face and hollering at his subordinates.

The other lackeys charged forward, and suddenly, the entrance of the barbecue restaurant echoed with slaps, as seven or eight thugs were beaten by Lin Chen and left searching for their teeth on the ground.

”You just wait,” Blondie wiped the blood from his mouth and pointed at Lin Chen.

Lin Chen, hands on his hips, retorted with a smile, ”Sure, I’ll wait. But make it quick; I’m busy.”

After Blondie left, Gao Shan hurried over, ”Mr. Lin, what brings you here?”

Lin Chen replied with a smile, ”Oh, just stopping by to check things out. By the way, is Gao Qi here?”

”Not here, she went to school early in the morning,” said Gao Shan.

Lin Chen nodded, ”Don’t be polite with these punks. And as for the protection fee, don’t pay a dime. We live in a society governed by law. Stand up to them, and they’ll back down. If it really comes to it, you can call 110.”

Gao Shan nodded, ”Ah, I always thought it was better not to stir up trouble, but these guys are getting more and more outrageous, even raising the price to ten thousand.”

”Don’t worry, I’ll take care of what follows. I’m going to teach them a lesson they won’t forget,” Lin Chen assured.

As he said this, Lin Chen took out a newspaper from the basketball club’s storage room and handed it to Gao Shan.

Gao Shan took the newspaper and his expression slightly changed, ”Mr. Lin, where did you see this?”

Lin Chen laughed, ”Boss Gao, did you leave the basketball team for some hidden reason? Gao Qi quit the team right after seeing this newspaper.”

”What? That child, always giving me headaches,” Gao Shan stood up abruptly upon hearing Lin Chen’s words.

”Don’t panic just yet, what exactly happened?” Lin Chen asked curiously.

Gao Shan sighed, ”The child must have quit the team out of guilt!”

After starting work, Gao Shan utilized his efforts to get into university, by then he was already married and had a child.

At that time, with his excellent physical fitness, Gao Shan became the captain of the campus team, while his wife was a doctor.

After joining the basketball team, Gao Shan had to play in games and train, so he seldom went home, and his wife was equally busy at her workplace.

The two neglected their daughter, Gao Qi.

Until one day, Gao Qi came down with a high fever. Gao Shan had an important game that day, and his wife had an emergency patient at the hospital, making it impossible for either to take leave. So, after feeding Gao Qi her medicine and putting her to bed, both parents left home.

It was pouring outside that day. When the couple returned from work, they found young Gao Qi passed out alone in the rain.

It turned out that Gao Qi had woken up, found that her parents were not home, tried to go out to find them, slipped in the rain, and because she was so sick, she fainted outright.

Gao Qi was rushed to the hospital and was finally saved. Afterwards, both parents realized that what was important in life wasn’t just their careers, but their love for their child.

Therefore, they both gave up their careers to open a barbecue restaurant and take care of their child.

In fact, we never planned to tell her about this incident, but as she grew older, she learned more and more, and she has always felt very guilty because of it.

”So that’s how it is!” Lin Chen nodded.

”Coach Lin, please rest assured that I will persuade Xiao Qi to return to the basketball team,” Gao Shan said earnestly.

”Leave this matter to me, I’ll handle it. But I might need your cooperation,” Lin Chen said.

”Sure, I will cooperate fully,” Gao Shan nodded.

Suddenly, a noisy clamor came from outside, and Gao Shan looked out, his face changing dramatically.

He saw four or five vans parked outside and dozens of burly men rushing out.

”Mr. Lin, you should leave through the back door. I’ll handle them,” Gao Shan said as his face changed upon seeing those people.

Lin Chen smiled faintly: ”No need, I can take care of these people.”

With that, Lin Chen stood up and walked outside.

By this time, the entrance to the barbecue restaurant was already surrounded by thirty or forty brawny men, their eyes fierce, many of them holding weapons.

Blonde-hair, with a sycophantic expression, said to a burly man beside him: ”Big brother, this is the guy, not only does he refuse to pay protection fees, but he also beat me and my bros.”

”Damn, it looks like my brother Kun has been too kind to people. Someone dares to beat my guys on my turf?” A bald thug stared coldly at Lin Chen who was walking out.

However, when he saw Lin Chen, he trembled all over, and the cigar in his hand almost dropped to the ground.

”Excuse me, are you Mr. Lin?” The ferocity on the bald man’s face was gone, replaced by a flattering demeanor.

Lin Chen was taken aback: ”You know me?”

The bald man felt bitter inside, not just knowing him; he had been there when Lin Chen caused a big stir at the World Association Hall.

Back then, the bald man was just a minor leader under the Zhang family, but that day, he was nearly scared witless watching Lin Chen single-handedly take down dozens of men.

Luckily, he was smart enough to hide in the crowd and escape disaster.

But the blow Lin Chen dealt him was unforgettable; in the bald man’s heart, Lin Chen was not human but a devil.

The Zhang family fell, and he had since joined his cousin, becoming a small-time leader of the local gangsters. Yet, just two days later, he encountered this god of slaughter again.

”Big brother, don’t waste your breath on this guy, just take him down,” Blonde-hair pointed at Lin Chen and angrily said.

”Slap!” A slap landed heavily on Blonde-hair’s face.

”Who told you to come here and collect protection money? People are just trying to make a small living. You guys freeloading is one thing, but now you also demand protection fees? People need to survive. Can you live with that on your conscience? A thousand-yuan protection fee, that’s several days of income for them,” the bald man said coldly.

Upon hearing the bald man’s words, his gang was stunned; did their boss have a stroke today? His compassionate stance was not in line with his usual style.

But Lin Chen caught the key point: ”Wait a minute, did you just say how much the protection fee was?”

”A thousand, Mr. Lin. We have no choice; our superiors demand it, and we can only comply. I was wrong; from now on, I won’t dare to collect protection fees from this barbecue shop. If I come, it will be to eat skewers, to support the business and pay for it,” the bald man’s voice trembled.

”Oh, so it’s a thousand, but just now your subordinate mentioned ten thousand,” Lin Chen’s gaze shifted towards Blonde-hair whose face had turned pale.

”Ten thousand!” The bald man’s expression changed drastically as his icy gaze turned towards Blonde-hair.
