Chapter 814: Chapter 815: Defeat Half of the National Team

Watching the considerable disparity in physique between the two teams, the audience continuously shook their heads.

Although there were still many cheering for the girls, it was indeed because of their good looks.

No one in the audience believed that the Zhonghai women’s basketball team could win, considering the opposing team included half of the national team.

With the whistle, the match finally started.

Jiang Qian glanced at Lin Chen, a hint of confusion apparent in her eyes.

Just before the game, she had asked Lin Chen how they should play, but his response almost made her collapse.

”Just play freely.”

What does playing freely mean, especially when facing a team with half the national team? Even giving one hundred and twenty percent effort would hardly secure a win, yet Lin Chen told her to play freely.

Sure enough, as the game started, Yin Fengzhu’s team dominated the court and the score quickly widened.

Although the girls had improved a lot in their skills and physical fitness under Lin Chen’s training, their rivals were extremely strong.

In particular, player number five, Wu Mei, from the national team, excelled in dribbling, thrusting and defending, evidently superior.

The other youth national player, Sun Yan, was also formidable, with very accurate three-point shots.

Despite giving their all in the first quarter, the score still ended up at 16 to 8, an eight-point difference between the teams.

In the spectator seats, two girls in sportswear watched the match intently, soon one of them yawned.

”Sister Ling, grandma is really too cautious. There’s nothing special about the Zhonghai women’s basketball team. She told us to come here to scout the enemy, but there’s nothing worth scouting. I think you don’t even have to play, I can handle it by myself,” one of the girls said disdainfully.

”Little Ying, if grandma asked us to watch the game, it must be for a reason. Did you see that young guy? He’s the one grandma told us to watch out for,” Guan Ling said.

”Psh, he just looks like a fool doing nothing, I don’t see anything special about him,” Wang Ying retorted with a sneer.

”Just wait and see. I believe the person grandma considers a tough competitor won’t just lose this match like that,” Guan Ling said seriously.

The second quarter continued, the situation on the court remained unchanged, and soon the score gap widened to 28 to 13.

Boos were heard from the spectator seats: ”It’s shameful to pit national team players against school team players.”

”Exactly, this is totally unfair!” Naturally, these complaints came from the dedicated fans of Zhonghai women’s basketball team.

Guan Ling watched Lin Chen doing nothing on the coach bench, wondering what on earth this guy was doing. The score difference was already so large, yet he had no solution.

The second quarter ended, and the faces of Jiang Qian and her teammates showed helplessness.

”Wu Mei and Sun Yan are too strong, we’re no match for them,” Wang Zixuan said dejectedly.

Seeing the despondent group, Lin Chen lightly smiled, ”Don’t lose heart, our counterattack officially begins now.”

”Coach, they are too strong, how can we counterattack?” Gao Qi said helplessly.

Lin Chen smiled lightly, ”Do you all remember the running positions I taught you? I’ll audibly guide you shortly, just follow my instructions.”

With the whistle, the match restarted.

Now, Yin Fengling wore a pleased expression; they already had a 15-point advantage, victory seemed within reach.

However, as the game resumed, the situation suddenly changed.

The previously retreating Zhonghai women’s basketball team suddenly seemed like a different team, coordinating with newfound skill.

Their positioning was very precise, always having someone ready in the gaps during the attack and watertight in defense.

Although Wu Mei and Sun Yan had strong personal abilities, they were completely restrained.

The positioning of several players from Zhonghai women’s basketball team completely cut off their connection with other teammates.

Forced to break through individually, they either fouled or shot hastily, missing their shots.

In the third quarter, the Zhonghai women’s basketball team unexpectedly scored a 12-0 run.

The score quickly became 28-25, with Zhonghai women’s basketball trailing by only 3 points.

Watching the sudden shift in dynamics, Guan Ling’s face revealed a faint smile: ”That’s more like it, this is what I wanted to see.”

”Sister, did these players deliberately hide their strength at the beginning?” Wang Ying asked, puzzled.

Guan Ling shook her head: ”No, they didn’t hide their strength. It’s that their coach didn’t direct them at the beginning, letting them play randomly, which caused them to fall behind. He started directing the game in the third quarter.”

”But I didn’t see him making any movements?” Wang Ying still looked confused.

Guan Ling smiled: ”He might not have moved, but his mouth never stopped talking, this guy is indeed a master.”

Just then, Guan Ling suddenly felt a chill. Turning her head, she saw Lin Chen watching her with a smile.

”How could this be, he noticed me from such a distance.” Guan Ling was stunned.

The desperate counter-attack from Zhonghai women’s basketball revived the fans in the arena, with diehard fans continuously shouting the names of several girls.

Yin Fengzhu’s face showed a furious expression: ”What are you all doing? I’ve spent hundreds of millions to bring you here to play.”

Wu Mei wiped her sweat: ”Their positioning makes me uncomfortable. It’s like they know what I’m thinking, I can’t perform my abilities at all.”

Sun Yan also looked frustrated: ”Their defense is baffling, just like an impenetrable wall, we can’t exert any strength at all.”

Yin Fengzhu coldly said: ”I don’t care what methods you use, you must win this match today.”

At the start of the fourth quarter, the situation remained one-sided, Zhonghai women’s basketball attacked like a tide, while Yin Fengzhu’s team was left utterly demoralized.

The two national team players couldn’t perform to their standards, and finally, at the end of the match, Zhonghai women’s basketball scored a frenzied 25 points in the last quarter, whereas the opponents managed only 6 points, scored by Wu Mei and Sun Yan through their individual skills after Lin Chen substituted some players.

The score finally settled at 34-50, Zhonghai women’s basketball won by a large margin.

The previously arrogant Yin Fengzhu appeared dumbfounded; she had hired two national team players and three provincial team players. With such strength, they would have been more than adequate for league matches, but still, they lost.

Wu Mei and Sun Yan both looked ashamed, fully confident at the start, never imagining they would face such an upset against a university women’s team.

In the spectator stands, Gao Qi’s parents held up signs, faces filled with pride.

In this game, Gao Qi scored a total of 18 points, making her one of the best performers on the court.

Guan Ling looked meaningfully at Lin Chen below, her eyes revealing surprise.

The team transformed between the first and second half of the game, and Guan Ling immediately recognized that this was all Lin Chen’s doing.

Sun Yan appeared indifferent: ”Sister, you don’t need to worry, their level seems just average, they won’t pose a threat to us.”

But Guan Ling shook her head: ”No, the Zhonghai women’s basketball team is definitely the dark horse of this tournament and the biggest contender for the championship.”
