Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 341: Chapter 113: Moral Chip

”Boss, leave it to me,” Dr. Rong’s holographic image was solemn.

After completing the task, Gao Gong naturally had to leave here, but before leaving, he handed over two tasks to the other party.

One was to build a large biochemical laboratory.

This place is overseas, yet not far from the continent, making it very suitable for transformation experiment islands.

The other was to create a ’Super Extreme Real Battlefield.’

For players, this is equivalent to a large dungeon.

After all, large tasks aren’t available every day, and during planting periods, you have to find something for these people to do.

The advantage of the alliance starts with small things.

With the addition of the bronze beast production line, it’s equivalent to having two large building blueprints under construction.

One hundred thousand robots, no, let’s cut that in half, it should be a fifty thousand robot corps, so much free labor should not be wasted.

[Special NPC, Dr. Rong joins the alliance, alliance experience +200,000, leader reputation +2,000]

Dr. Rong: A major robot manufacturer, his arrival effectively alleviated the shortage of low-level soldier species in the alliance.

[Mechanical Hunter obtains a new professional system—Modified Robot]

Modified Robot: A level 20 machine soldier species, low-end version replicated by Dr. Rong, suitable for basic combat and basic construction manufacturing, with production efficiency *1/minute when materials are complete.

[Modified Robots *50,000]

[Your current alliance experience *40 million points]

Forty million points, plenty to issue a global large-scale task.

Large task, Gao Gong stroked his chin, wondering what to do.

...

Mechanical Armor Soldier planned to leave with Gao Gong, and Gao Gong gladly agreed, after all, having an elderly at home is like having a treasure. With Xiao Yuanshan in robot version, the efficiency of seeking ancient tasks increases by +200%.

Xiao Yu also wished to leave here immediately, Little Bao’s mechanical body, like the Modified Robot, is a Tier 1 Whiteboard, while the Advanced Mechanical Body is only available in Nightless City.

She also wanted to hurry back to change her mechanical body.

After painting a grand future of the fusion route to Dr. Rong, this artificial intelligence couldn’t wait to work tirelessly.

Does artificial intelligence need rest? Of course not.

’Beep beep beep——’

’Hmm? A new task?’

The system panel didn’t change at all. After searching for a while, he found it was a message from the citizen certificate.

’Please return to Nightless City within three days for your exclusive citizen modification. Failure to return will cancel your citizen certification.’

’After citizen certification cancellation, once you appear within Nightless City’s scope, the Mechanical Main Brain will clear your data—Mechanic.’

A message in the name of Mechanic.

This is quite serious.

And, what exactly is this exclusive citizen modification?

”Master?” Little A’s tone had a hint of peculiarity.

”What’s the matter?”

”There’s a piece of news I think you should see.”

The holographic projection opened, showing a host dressed like a Joker reporting the news in a very serious tone, with data streams slipping past his eyes.

This clearly resulted from control by the Mechanical Main Brain.

’Today, Nightless City Council passed a modification bill, planning to gradually implant moral chips in Outer City District, Old Town District, Saint Domingo District, Sub-human Continent, Lower Midtown District, Upper Midtown District.’

’The spokesperson of Nightless City Council announced the implantation of moral chips for all will be humanity’s first step towards a greater phase.’

’At the same time, thirteen corporations represented by Virtual Real Estate, Beautiful Interconnection, and Deep Image announced the formation of the enterprise alliance ”Illusion,” openly declaring the city-wide chip implantation as just the first step towards a Beautiful World. Their next phase targets moral modifications of the entire 9-3 Guanzhong Plate.’

’The currently completed moral chip implant districts are Lower Midtown District and Upper Midtown District, which are the Business District and Main Brain Area, while modifications in other regions have produced some data anomaly phenomena.’

The screen switches, seemingly suddenly turning into street war mode, thick black smoke rises from buildings, Motorcycle Faction, gangs, crime groups begin madly attacking various regions’ administrative halls.

One by one peacekeepers begin appearing, machine guns spray wildly, missiles fire randomly, mercilessly suppressing.

And on the streets, massive protesting crowds, shouting constantly, densely packed white-collar workers, drug addicts, street vendors, robots, clones, bionic men, Cyber Race.

These usually disconnected crowds unexpectedly gathered together.

”Oppose fake morality, oppose pseudo chips.”

”Oppose Giant Corporation Alliance, oppose monopolies!”

”Dark curtain! Dark curtain!”

”Genocide! Genocide!”

...

Gao Gong folded his arms, silent.

Xiao Yu hesitated for a moment and said, ”Isn’t this a good thing?”

”If the gangs all had moral chips implanted, the crime rate indeed could plummet.”

”Then why do they oppose?”

”Probably because they are all bad people,” Gao Gong chuckled, strangely saying, ”How could good people oppose morality.”

Xiao Yu’s small brain hit a downtime.

With her intelligence, it’s hard to leap from the poles of good and evil into the gray area.

In his brain-machine, Paradise Bird watched this scene, shaking his head.

”Yet another large-scale group experiment, Mother City is giving more power to local Mechanical Main Brains, accelerating the formation of large corporations.”

”Just, so impatient?”

”Moral chip, what the hell is that? Large group experiment, what’s that about?”

As a tech shut-in, Ahong was very insensitive to major events happening in society, only seeing a few peers in the protest crowd; their vacant, socially awkward stares, flip-flops on their feet, coupled with Aidolu’s face on their T-shirts.

As a shut-in, Ahong deeply understood that when even fellow shut-ins couldn’t stand something, then it was 100% not a human affair.

”Do you know the name of this planet?” Paradise Bird asked.

”Mechanical Split Star, no, Cyber Test Field.”

”And you still don’t know what the experiment is? How do you think those Giant Corporations rose?”

Ahong froze for a moment, ”Heard about it, but it’s the first time seeing it.”

”But this kind of experiment has happened a second time on this Guanzhong Continent. Haven’t you heard of Crime City west of Nightless City?”

”The place where the whole city is crime + warfare?”

”That place was once a Mechanical City too, going through a group experiment modification just like this one, only their modification direction was completely opposite this time.”

”What did they modify?” Ahong asked curiously.

”The evil of humanity; they modified parts like everyone’s orbital frontal cortex, amygdala, and brain white matter, which are collectively called the moral areas of humans. They altered these parts.”

”They wanted to test whether human will could resist the changes in the human brain.”

”And the result?”

”The genteel gentlemen became beasts in suits, good men turned into wife-murdering maniacs, gentle wives turned into cheating maniacs, model employees into slacking fanatics, upright entrepreneurs into ruthless factory owners. In Crime City, you couldn’t buy a food without dangerous additives, drink a drug-free beverage, sleep without surveillance, streets were crime spots, and the prison actually became a safe area.”

Ahong took a sharp breath, ”So perverse?”

”Then if I buy pirated goods there, is it not illegal?” Shut-ins always have quirky neural pathways.

”You can’t buy a chip without a backdoor there, what do you think?”

”Damn, according to you, a hacker like me would become a model citizen there? I wonder if the idol industry is flourishing there?”

”They have murder idols, high-interest idols, cult idols; want them?”

”So exciting—”

Ahong subconsciously rubbed his ear, usually, Aidolu would’ve started ear-twisting by now, what’s going on today?

He looked over to find Aidolu had collapsed painfully to the ground, the codes on the surface of her body flickering.

”What’s happening?!”

Paradise Bird’s exclusive flame immediately engulfed the other, but the flame repairing the codes was ineffective.

”Let me try.”

A gentle voice rang out, Gao Yuanyuan placed her palm on Aidolu’s abdomen, and in an instant, a large range of neural circuits materialized, nerve flow like a giant electronic tree crown.

”What’s the situation?” Ahong asked nervously.

”Aidolu’s AI framework came from another Aidolu,” Gao Yuanyuan glanced at Paradise Bird, implying something: ”When the other Aidolu experiences a change, this Aidolu is also affected.”

”This kind of AI framework change is unlikely to be arranged by the agency, after all Aidolu is the company’s trademark, these modifications are risky, but perhaps fanbase shifts might affect her.”

”You mean, fan personality change?” asked Paradise Bird.

”Yes, I think it’s not unrelated to that moral chip, don’t forget, this Aidolu is an Underground Idol Template—Blackened Aidolu.”

Gao Gong’s voice was heard.

”The issue of popular idols may have to be resolved in group experimentation, let’s return to Nightless City for now.”

...

Meanwhile, players in Nightless City were bursting in discussion.

But they didn’t care about social ethics issues; their concern was whether the Moral Chip is some sort of version benefit?

Chips, they’re damn expensive.

This rip-off game actually handing out benefits?!

’Hey hey hey, any brothers who’ve implanted the chip, speak up, how’s it feel? What attributes got added?’

’Feels like a complete overhaul of myself!’

’Speak human!’

’Feels like I’m floating!’

In a small group, people were bustling around ’PP Boss’.

The group had only her in the Business District.

’PP, what’s your situation?’

’Still alive, hasn’t suddenly dropped dead, right?’ asked Boss Baozi

’...It’s alright.’ PP Boss

’How do you feel?’ asked Red Flower Demon selling ramen

’Feel completely refreshed, mind at peace, no disputes, spirits elevated.’

The small group had an uncommon moment of silence.

’PP got possessed again?’

’Brain modification, can Boss Baozi handle it?’

’No way, still more!?’\p> asked Sister Ji

’Just kidding, Sister Ji; the same pit, I won’t fall in three times. I haven’t even been modified yet,’ PP Boss paused, ’but I really do feel quite off.’

’What do you mean?’

’How to say, feels like entering Truman’s world.’
