Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 323: Chapter 96: Miller

Mother City Deep Net, Memory Supervision Room

This is the territory of the Memory Supervision Department.

But beyond this department, key figures from the Humanity Experiment Department, Machine Consciousness Department, Prosthetic Registration Department, Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division, and Electronic Network Department were all present.

In the midst of electronic light and shadow, numerous virtual human figures came online, and the entire room expanded and expanded again until it became a conference hall.

On the projection screen, the intrusion event over the lone island was being replayed, starting from the actions of the Paradise Bird until the island was blasted apart by a rain of missiles.

Repeatedly, over and over.

Gradually, with the refresh, the towering pipeline and three blurry human figures were fully revealed.

The Memory Supervision Department’s job is to ensure that memory data operates normally in the neural system or external storage devices, without malicious modification.

Among the six core departments, it is considered more of a clerical role. Even if a memory loss event occurs, it only informs the local Mechanical Main Brain or is taken over by the Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division.

It’s rare for so many big figures to come to its territory.

Thanks to the efforts of a particular perverse host, the entire event process was recorded, and then it was watched throughout by several million onlookers.

Ordinary people cannot see the virtual images of Cyber Hackers.

But ”cannot see” does not mean the memory does not exist.

At this moment, the operators of the Memory Supervision Department were extracting memories from these hundreds of thousands of people, attempting to restore the image of the hacker’s ”prototype.”

Thousands of faces were displayed, quickly breaking through tens of thousands, then a hundred thousand, and then five hundred thousand...

”The hacker’s skill level is very high!” Yagami Suuji said calmly, but the woman in white with sunglasses beside her could hear the gritted teeth in her tone.

Old Man Aramaki was dead, the mission she was involved in failed, indirectly causing the Cloud City to drift off course; no one knew where it was floating in the universe now.

It wouldn’t be surprising if Yagami Suuji were in a bad mood.

The woman in white with sunglasses remained composed, letting out a soft laugh: ”A mission, after all, has successes and failures. It’s not a big deal. Besides, it was those aristocrats from the old era who themselves chose to set their territory outside the planet, wasn’t it precisely to guard against us? Now that something’s happened, who can they blame?”

”Hmph!” Yagami Suuji glared at the other, ”Don’t make it sound so easy. If you had suppressed the Paradise Bird, there wouldn’t be so many problems!”

The woman in white with sunglasses stretched lazily and stood up.

”A failure is a failure. Top-level hackers are not easy to deal with, and the other side has been scheming for so long, losing to them is quite normal. But you insisted on awakening the Deep Web Lord from slumber. Now that she’s awake, we have even more work to do.”

”Maintaining stability between life forms and machines is our duty!”

”Is it?” The woman with sunglasses smiled strangely, ”I thought our job was to make the whole world go mad.”

Yagami Suuji fumed, and before she could say anything, with a ’crack,’ all the holographic projections in the Memory Supervision Center collapsed.

”What’s going on?”

”What happened, hacker intrusion?”

”Where is the bionic broadcaster?”

A bionic girl came rushing in, stammering, ”Currently over a billion human brain IPs have been checked, and the data system has collapsed!”

”Finding a billion faces in a hundred million heads is just too ridiculous!”

A super AI from the Humanity Experiment Department started laughing bizarrely, its holographic projection was peculiar, densely packed with human faces.

The woman in white with sunglasses got up, stretched lazily: ”Looks like there’s nothing for me to do here, I’ll retreat for now.”

Seemingly reminded of something, the woman in white with sunglasses bent down, gave Yagami Suuji a peck on the face, and whispered softly, ”I forgot to mention, be careful recently, Old Man Aramaki is dead, but there are quite a few people eyeing your position.”

The virtual figures dwindled until only Yagami Suuji remained, her face alternated between light and shadow under the virtual projection’s glow.

This matter could be big or small. On the larger scale, every aristocrat on this planet has relatives or close ones in the Cloud City, and their fury must be borne by someone.

On the smaller scale, it was just a common hacker intrusion event, but with a broader range and more casualties.

Such hacker intrusion events occur tens of thousands of times each year on this planet.

Yagami Suuji contemplated more.

The mechanical system is evolving, and so is the life system. Sooner or later, they will collide, unleashing terrifying creativity.

As for whether society will collapse or be reshaped post-explosion, no one knows.

The flames of revolution are already starting to flicker!

According to Minister Aramaki, the most morally appropriate thing for the intelligent beings of this era to do is to strive to mitigate the moral degradation brought about by such evolution.

Until the ’beep beep’ sound on her wrist drew Suzi back to reality.

Three holographic projections appeared before her: a bulky man, a yawning young man, and a girl.

”Captain, we’re about to head out,” the girl said cheerfully.

”Captain Suzi, when will you accept my love?” The bulky man was excited.

”After you install the latest model of the reproductive system,” the young man said lazily.

”Can’t I have a pure spiritual love with the captain? Does one really need that thing?” the bulky man said angrily.

”Captain, what he means is, he wants to share a virtual machine with you.”

Yagami Suuji sighed and said, ”Pupil, take care of the collider and Chapai, make sure they don’t cause trouble.”

”Yes, Captain!” The girl saluted energetically.

”Also, this time your task is to investigate the cause of the minister’s death, be serious!”

”Yes, sir!!!”

...

The highest-grade hotel in Nightless City, on the top floor, two geneticists were busy amidst cutting-edge medical instruments, molecular synthesis chambers, brainwave generators, consciousness downloaders, and more.

As a level 10 prosthetic doctor transitioning to a second-transformation profession, a geneticist can achieve a very high status even in large corporations, such as a top position in a research lab.

But now, two geneticists and an entire team, with such luxurious setups, were serving only one person.

To be precise, they were serving a human body about to take form, tall, strong, masculine, with wheat-colored skin through which veins occasionally bulged.

The main parts were already completed, while the remaining parts, like fingernails and hair, were being synthesized in the chamber.

An assistant occasionally came, injecting a tube of genetic adjustment liquid. These contained high-level computing brain cells from the Holy Brain Group, core biological circulatory cells from Balance Biotechnology, survival genes from the Johnson Group, and atomic viruses from Vinos Life Safety.

In short, the top products of several top biological groups were concentrated in this body.

Simultaneously, five or six improved versions of A-level Radiation Beast bloodlines were injected into it.

Stirred by these genetic products, the growth rate of this shell increased a hundredfold.

One geneticist looked at the other.

”Almost ready, you can download now.”

”Life activation complete, consciousness downloading, 10%, 20%, 30%...”

The AI’s cold voice piped up.

”100%, consciousness download complete.”

The man opened his eyes, his violent spiritual power repeatedly hammered against the special glass, creating cracks.

Ordinary artillery shells might not achieve this effect.

After about ten minutes, the man finally calmed down, his golden pupils turning black and his spiritual power gradually faded.

One geneticist rushed forward with a cloak, draping it over him with concern:

”How do you feel now?”

”Slightly detached,” the man rubbed his temples, his expression shifting from blank to showing a hint of emotion.

The geneticist explained:

”Cross-planet consciousness transmission is like this, especially when memory data passes through radiation clouds, causing some consciousness delay, it’ll be fine in a while.”

”Did Mr. Miller come from ’Night Star’?”

Another geneticist asked.

’Night Star’ was a satellite of Mechanical Split Star, the frontier of exploration during the Civilization Era, turned into a significant commercial center in the Mechanical Era.

”No, I came from the Normans’ territory, 30 light years away, discussing an important business deal, my physical body is still on the interstellar spaceship, couldn’t wait, so I sent my consciousness over first, interchanging thrice, using hyperspace download technology.”

”No wonder, how does this body feel?”

Miller pinched his fingers, and the surrounding space seemed to distort slightly.

”Not bad, reaches interstellar standards.”

The man called Miller flashed an enchanting smile.

”Let me see who took my little girl.”
