Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

”I’m on my way back now.”

Walker hung up and drove straight back to the family estate.

A nanny was holding Noah Grant, trying to soothe him, but the little one just kept crying until his voice was hoarse.

”WAHH... Uncle, I want Mommy... Mommy... WAHH...”

Walker took Noah from her and carried him upstairs, asking gently, ”Noah, did you finish your homework for today?”

”F-finished...”

Noah Grant wiped his eyes, but tears kept streaming down his face.

He wrapped his arms around Walker’s neck and asked, ”Uncle, when is Mommy coming back?”

Walker, however, didn’t answer his question. Instead, he said, ”Where’s your homework? I haven’t checked it yet.”

Noah Grant immediately grew tense. He wriggled out of Walker’s arms, scurried over to his small desk, and held out his notebook for Walker to take.

Then, the little boy just stood there, hiccuping with sobs, not daring to cry out loud anymore.

The little boy was in preschool, and his class didn’t have homework. But Walker gave him assignments to distract him and to develop his skills.

If he finished it and did a good job, there was a reward.

If he did poorly, there was a punishment.

For Noah, who was just over three, a smack on the palm of his hand was the most severe punishment he knew.

He was terrified of the smacks, so he always completed the homework his uncle assigned.

Walker nodded. ”Mm, this is very good. As a reward, Noah can have one piece of candy today.”

Noah’s eyes instantly lit up. He took the candy, and just like that, he stopped crying and calling for his mother.

Walker patiently played with him for a long time, gave him a bath, and tucked him into bed until he fell asleep.

Looking at the boy, whose eyes and brows so resembled his older brother’s, a flicker of warmth softened Walker’s gaze.

Once he was out of the room, his cold gaze swept over a nearby nanny. ”Bring every nanny who was on duty with Noah today to me,” he commanded.

”Yes.”

Six nannies were assigned to Noah, each responsible for a different aspect of his life: his meals, clothing, daily routine, play, and learning.

Walker watched the surveillance footage on his computer, seeing with perfect clarity what each nanny did with Noah Grant and everything they said to him.

After a long moment, he turned to one of the nannies, who had kept her head bowed the entire time. ”Do you have something to say?”

The nanny flinched and shook her head instinctively. ”N-no.”

”Then why did you bring up his mother with Noah?” Walker asked, his tone frigid.

The nanny bit her lip, but she raised her head and spoke. ”Second Young Master, Noah is just a child. He needs his parents. He’s already lost his father; he can’t lose his mother, too. Otherwise, his childhood will be incomplete, flawed even. Second Young Master, my heart just aches for him. Can’t you please bring the Young Mistress back?”

”How very charitable of you.”

A smile suddenly touched Walker’s lips. ”In that case, I’ll send you to Gondara. There are so many children there without parents. Why don’t you go and be a mother to them? How does that sound?”

At his words, the color drained from the nanny’s face. ”Second Young Master, I... I was wrong! It was a moment of foolishness, please, forgive me this once! I’ll never do it again, I swear!”

But Walker just said, ”Noah was crying his eyes out. He’s so small. What if he had cried himself sick? For that, I will not forgive you. And I will not give you another chance.”

He called for his bodyguards, who came in and dragged the nanny away.

Walker turned to the others. ”Does anyone else have something to say?”

The remaining nannies were thoroughly terrified. They knew not to meddle and simply said, ”No.”
