Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

Sunny Reed’s lips curled, her eyes filled with a profound sadness. ”It’s ridiculous, isn’t it? Walker, all I did back then was save someone. If I really had an ulterior motive, I wouldn’t have stayed silent for more than eight years. I’m going to take Noah home now. You should get back to work.”

She turned and left the office.

Walker Grant’s long, elegant fingers gripped a pen. His eyes were dark and inscrutable, making it impossible to guess what he was thinking.

Dylan Finch, standing to the side, glanced at his boss’s expression and asked tentatively, ”Mr. Grant, should we continue the investigation?”

Walker Grant said, ”Find out where Chloe Reed was when the earthquake happened.”

Dylan Finch said, ”Yes.”

...

Chloe Reed met up with Iris Yates for a meal.

The aroma of grilled meat filled the Korean BBQ restaurant. The SIZZLE of meat on the grill was enough to lift anyone’s spirits.

Iris Yates studied her friend’s face, her brow furrowed in worry. ”Chloe, you didn’t sleep well last night, did you?”

Chloe Reed looked haggard, her eyes completely listless.

”How can I stop my parents from giving the Reed Group shares to Sunny Reed?”

she said, her expression full of sorrow.

”What?!” Iris Yates was stunned. ”Have your parents lost their minds? Giving the family business to an adopted daughter? I just don’t get it. What kind of spell has that bitch Sunny Reed cast on them? This is going way too far!”

Chloe Reed looked up at her. ”You think it’s outrageous too, don’t you?”

”Right!” Iris Yates slammed her hand on the table. ”If my parents ever did that, I’d fight them tooth and nail!”

Chloe Reed cupped her chin in thought. ”They’re so patient with Sunny Reed. They favor her, care about her, they’re even giving the company to her... It’s like... they’re trying to make up for something. Do you think my parents might have killed Sunny Reed’s parents?”

Her imagination suddenly ran wild, and the more she thought about it, the more her guess seemed plausible!

Otherwise, how could she explain Charles Reed and Autumn Linton’s favoritism toward Sunny Reed?

She had never considered it all these years, but now that she was really thinking about it, she started to see some suspicious signs.

Iris Yates blinked. ”You mean they’re desperately trying to make up for something because they feel guilty? Even if it means hurting you?”

Chloe Reed shrugged. ”Otherwise, I can’t think of any other reason.”

Iris Yates’s eyes lit up. ”Then let me do some digging. I’m obsessed with the secrets of the rich and powerful. What do you say? I’ll unearth everything for you.”

”We can’t risk tipping them off,” Chloe Reed said.

”Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.”

Iris Yates made an OK sign.

The two finished their barbecue in high spirits and then went home.

However, when Chloe Reed stepped out of the elevator, she saw the tall figure of Walker Grant standing by her door. He was leaning against the wall, his suit jacket draped over his left arm. The collar of his shirt was unbuttoned and slightly rumpled, and he was holding his phone to his ear with his right hand, his eyes downcast and his expression impassive.

Her expression immediately turned cold.

’What is wrong with the security in this building?’

’How can they just let anyone in?’

She immediately called building management to report the situation.

But to her surprise, when the property manager arrived, he said sheepishly, ”Miss Reed, this gentleman is the developer of our residential complex.”

Chloe Reed crossed her arms. ”I don’t care if he’s the king of the world, he can’t just waltz in here whenever he wants, can he?”

The property manager was speechless.

’Actually, it seems like he can.’

’If the developer can get in, there’s no way we could stop the king of the world.’

Walker Grant had been silent the whole time, just standing aside and quietly watching her go through the motions. Only when he saw the exasperated look on her face did he finally speak. ”I’ve been waiting for you for a long time.”
