The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Sun Yeshu’s eyes turned red just from watching.

Besides gleaning wheat, the adults assigned to this plot of land also had to bundle the harvested wheat stalks. Earning work points was no easy task.

Once Leng Qingtian finished reaping, he paid no mind to what came next. While gleaning the leftover stalks, Sun Yeshu also had to bundle the reaped wheat and place it by the roadside, making it convenient for someone to come collect it later.

Chen JianShe did the same. He simply left the reaped wheat on the ground, and behind him, Chen Erniu was responsible for bundling it while Chen Sandan gleaned the fallen stalks.

Chen Erniu was a teenager now and could earn four or five work points herself.

Chen Sandan was still a little young, so he could continue to glean the stalks.

Leng Yuan, however, worked differently from Leng Qingtian and Chen JianShe. After reaping a large handful of wheat, he would deftly tie it into a bundle with a few stalks in one smooth motion, leaving nothing for Gu Jiaojiao to bundle.

This meant Leng Yuan was doing the work of two people all by himself.

On top of that, Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang were also there helping, and other children would occasionally run over to lend a hand. From start to finish, Gu Jiaojiao had only gleaned five stalks of wheat.

Compared to everyone else, who was disheveled and covered in chaff, sweat mixing with the prickly bits on their faces, Gu Jiaojiao looked like she was on a leisurely outing. With her relaxed smile and not a single hair out of place, she didn’t look like she was working at all.

Sun Yeshu couldn’t take it anymore.

Seeing the production team leader walk past, she called out loudly, ”Team Leader, someone over here is slacking off!”

Sun Yeshu’s shout was so sudden that Leng Qingtian nearly sliced his own hand. A terrible feeling washed over him; he suspected the slacker she was talking about was Gu Jiaojiao.

Leng Qingtian stopped his work and walked over to Sun Yeshu, tugging on her arm.

”What nonsense are you spouting? Get back to work.”

Sun Yeshu shook off Leng Qingtian’s hand, her face furious. ”It’s bad enough you won’t back me up, but now you’re scolding me? I’m not wrong!”

The production team leader, who had just walked past, heard Sun Yeshu and came walking back.

”What’s going on? Who’s slacking off?”

At first, the team leader hadn’t been paying attention to the people working in this area. He had just heard someone shout and immediately began to scold.

’It’s the peak of the busy season right now. If anyone dares to slack off, I’ll be sure to dock their work points.’

When he walked over and saw that it was Sun Yeshu who had spoken and that Gu Jiaojiao was working nearby, he immediately had a good idea of what was going on.

’If it were anyone else, I really would dock their work points. But if it’s Gu Jiaojiao...’ The team leader gave a light cough and pretended he hadn’t just been thinking those things.

”What’s going on here? Sun Yeshu, why are you shouting instead of doing your work?”

Realizing Sun Yeshu was talking about Gu Jiaojiao, the team leader dropped the subject of slacking and instead reprimanded Sun Yeshu.

Sun Yeshu’s eyes reddened. ”Team Leader, you’re playing favorites! It’s obviously Gu Jiaojiao who’s slacking off, but you won’t say a thing to her.”

Chen Beiguo had to admit he was a little biased. ’It’s like how a teacher favors their best students,’ he thought. ’Gu Jiaojiao brought honor to the production team, and Leng Yuan helped secure our future. They’ve both made outstanding contributions. Besides, Leng Yuan always works fast and does an excellent job. So what if Jiaojiao slacks off a bit?’

Still, he couldn’t be too obvious about his favoritism. He decided to get the full story first and then figure out how to smooth things over. So, he asked,

”You say Gu Jiaojiao isn’t working. In what way?”

He had just glanced over everything and hadn’t noticed any problems; everything seemed to be proceeding as it should, which was why he felt confident enough to ask.

Sun Yeshu’s shout had been quite loud. Not only did the nearby workers all look over, but the children also dropped what they were doing and ran over to eavesdrop on the gossip.
