Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 1030: Chapter 1030: Rain

Li Yungui comforted himself, thinking at least he was much better off than those who hadn’t finished harvesting their wheat yet.

He looked up at the dark sky and sighed. A rainstorm would be best; otherwise, many villages would suffer reduced yields.

Li Cunshan saw Li Yungui standing at the edge of the field, ”What’s wrong?”

”Nothing, just worried about the weather. Tonight, there’s surely going to be a big rainstorm.”

”Can’t be helped. Half of Zheng Family Village’s wheat hasn’t been harvested yet. Just thinking about it is worrisome. Yun Gui, when Xiao Wei returns, go and get the tractors.”

”Got it, I’ll at least get two back. You think Xiao Wei isn’t back yet?”

”He should be back soon. Xiao Wei’s temperament is known, and given it’s harvest time, he’s probably anxious.”

”Couldn’t he have waited until after the harvest to go?”

Both sighed. The leaders sit in their offices, unaware of the situation below.

”The remaining fields will have to wait until after the rain to be planted; we’ll do it manually then.”

Li Yungui shook his head, ”Brother Cunshan, let’s not rush it. If the land isn’t suitable, just plant vegetables. We have more than enough grain; it’s not necessary. In autumn, let’s store more vegetables to sell in winter.”

”Alright, are we still planting cabbage?”

”Yes, cabbage and radish, with high yield and good preservation.”

”Discuss it with Uncle.” Li Cunshan didn’t want to use prime land for vegetables.

Li Yungui nodded, realizing it indeed needed discussion, fearing someone might disagree.

He knew the elders wanted to store more grain.

”Brother Cunshan, when we’re free in a few days, let’s build a warehouse. I’m not comfortable storing so much grain in the old one. This time, we’ll use stone, blue brick, and line the inside with cement.”

Li Cunshan fully agreed with this proposal. ”That’s what I think too. If we don’t build a warehouse, we won’t have anywhere to store it come autumn.”

Li Cunshan finished speaking with a smile; he had never seen so much grain in his life. For farmers, having grain in hand means peace of mind.

”I’ll visit the brick factory tomorrow. You go decide on the stones. Let’s discuss with Uncle where to build it and how big it should be.”

”Alright, we’ll go over tonight.”

Thunder rumbled, one crash after another. Li Yungui yelled for Jiushang and the others to stop.

”That’s it for today. Clean the tractors and park them in the garage.”

”Uncle, not planting now?”

”Not planting. If it rains too much, the soil will be compacted, and the seedlings won’t grow.”

Everyone obediently tidied their tools. Just as they drove the tractors in, large raindrops began to fall, stinging their faces.

Li Yungui and Li Cunshan braved the rain to visit the chicken farm, where each chicken weighed about two pounds. But they couldn’t afford to be negligent.

Wen Zhenzong and the others had just herded the roosters inside.

”Village Chief Li, Captain, you’ve come. The chicken farm is all set.”

”Good, be sure not to lose any chickens.”

”Don’t worry; we count them daily and knowing today’s bad weather, we’ve prepared the coop ahead.”

Now they were reassured. Li Yungui wasn’t in a hurry to leave. Eight of them had been relocated there, and no one was available elsewhere.

Li Yungui called Wen Zhenzong inside to discuss the day’s events, ”Please draft a material for our village’s electricity application.”

Wen Zhengzhong understood Li Yungui’s intention, thinking even more than him.

”Village Chief, I’m afraid our factory might not survive.”

Li Yungui sighed, having thought of it, though unwilling to accept it.

”Let’s wait for Xiao Wei to return and discuss.”

Wen Zhengzhong found pen and paper, starting the application, using formal language yet appealing to the leaders’ sentiments.

After drafting, he handed it to Li Yungui for review.

”Alright, let’s go with this. I’ll copy it myself.”

Outside, heavy rain poured, preventing Li Yungui from leaving, so he chatted with several people.

These few weren’t truly wicked. They had some faults but weren’t bad enough to be exiled, so Li Yungui enjoyed chatting with them.

”Village Chief, our chicken farm is short on disinfectant. I can make it myself. I’ll list the materials; you can send someone to buy them. The chicken farm needs daily disinfection.

Our village has a sprayer, making it convenient for the disinfectant,” Jin Jianwen said with a smile.

”No problem, whatever the chicken farm lacks, come straight to me.”

”Sure, it’s more relaxed than fieldwork, but the responsibility is huge. They’re living things, and we can’t be careless.”

Li Yungui nodded, ”Indeed, our chicken farm is watched by many. Too many are waiting to see us fail.

We must succeed. Failure means financial losses, but most importantly, we can’t lose face.”

Everyone nodded. Few had raised chickens, but with the manual, strict adherence was enough.

Additionally, there were over a dozen village elders. Their relations now were excellent.

All were honest farmers, willing to interact; previous reservations had dissipated.

People getting along is simple; with genuine intent, there are no issues.

Li Yungui had no problems with them. They followed orders, so the village never held a single meeting.

They hadn’t realized it, making the eight fortunate to be there. Though isolated, none sought contact, prioritizing family safety and severed ties.

Thinking they were better off than the thirty who arrived.

Fulfillment isn’t always material; it’s also spiritual.

Here, no one mocked or looked down on them; treated as ordinary people.

This was what they needed most. Respect drove them to offer their abilities in gratitude. Appreciating kindness.

”Village Chief, once the rain’s over and the roads aren’t too muddy, could you send some strong young men to learn herbalism from me and explore the mountains? There’s bound to be many medicinal herbs,” Liu Xuefa said sincerely to Li Yungui.

”That’s wonderful. Many ambitious young people would surely be interested.

Let me speak frankly. I believe one day you’ll all leave here.”
