Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

New book ”Reborn: Not Your Perfect Wife” is asking for recommendations and favorites! Love you!

”Zhongyi, are you having dinner at home tonight?”

Yang Zhongyi gave a wry smile, ”Sister-in-law, not now, I’ll come by later.”

Jiang Xinyu felt quite sympathetic for him. The girl he liked didn’t have special feelings for him, and his family was opposed to it too. This young man was having a tough time.

”Alright, I’ll give you some mahua to take home. I made these when your Brother Wei left. Take them with you, and when he returns, have him bring you some treats.”

”Thanks, sister-in-law.” He found nothing enjoyable to eat right now.

Jiang Xinyu didn’t say much more. This matter was good for everyone, even if the Yang family agreed later, Jiang Xinyu wouldn’t approve. The young man seemed nice, but Jing Chu was just an ordinary girl, and even if they got together, she would be looked down upon by her in-laws. Such a life wouldn’t be easy.

”Sister-in-law, shall I come over to get the money the day after tomorrow?”

”No need to trouble you. Your Brother Yang is at home; he can come with me.

But when your Brother Wei comes back, have him call you over for a meal. We’ll prepare good food for you.”

They chatted aimlessly along the way, and Yang Zhongyi refrained from asking about Jing Chu’s situation.

When they reached the village, the car stopped right in front of Wei’s house.

Jiang Xinyu jumped out of the car and went directly into the house. There were more than twenty sticks of mahua, all wrapped up in packing paper.

Yang Zhongyi got out too, but he knew the girl he loved definitely wasn’t here.

He was in great pain. What kind of fate was this?

Receiving the mahua handed over by Jiang Xinyu, he said, ”Thank you, sister-in-law.”

”There’s no need to be formal. Come back for a meal when you have time.” Jiang Xinyu extended the invitation again.

Li Yungui, standing nearby, couldn’t stop expressing his gratitude.

Yang Zhongyi smiled and left in the car.

”Xiao Jiang, the receipt is with you. Just go and get the money the day after tomorrow; I need to check the fields.

With this extra money, when Xiao Wei returns, we can buy two more tractors.”

Jiang Xinyu just smiled; she didn’t partake in this idea. Li Yungui really was enjoying the profits.

Li Yungui left excitedly. Jiang Xinyu went inside, and Shi Xian, who had heard her voice, was calling eagerly from inside.

”Xinyu, how did it go? Was it smooth?”

”Not bad, the public grain is essentially handed over. We can get the money the day after tomorrow.”

”That smooth?”

”Pretty much, probably because Yang Zhongyi was around. So I feel it went okay.”

Jiang Xinyu picked up Shi Xian and put him seated on the car, where the little guy immediately stood up, waving his arms and legs.

Jiang Xinyu lightly tapped his forehead, ”Sit nicely, and I’ll get your sister.”

The family was too busy, so they couldn’t let the two kids walk on their own. There really was no other way.

Jiang Feifei saw her mom carrying her sister out, she got down, seeing watching Shi Xian was more exhausting than gathering wheat ears.

Du Fengying was approaching five months pregnant, so Jiang Xinyu wouldn’t let her bend over too often, making Zhang Qiu’e the main cook.

”Teacher Jiang, what are we having for dinner today? I’ve already leavened the dough.”

”Meat buns, perhaps. We’re all quite tired and something solid would do.”

”Mom, you don’t have to go to the fields, do you?”

Jiang Xinyu patted her daughter’s shoulder, ”Mom will stay home, so you can go play.”

She knew how naughty her young son was, and her daughter must be quite tired of watching him every day now.

”Alright, I’ll go check on the brothers.” Spending a whole day with the little Demon King was exhausting enough.

Jiang Xinyu returned early today, so she helped Zhang Qiu’e with chores.

Zhang Qiu’e wasn’t good at mixing the meat filling, so Jiang Xinyu took over.

”Sister Zhang, let’s cook porridge under the steamer, sorghum porridge.”

”Okay.”

Jiang Xinyu made carrot and bacon filling for the kids. Jianbin used to suffer from mouth ulcers frequently, but ever since living with Jiang Xinyu, he never had that issue again. So Jiang Xinyu made sure they had a meal of it daily.

Ah Bao was already three months old and reaching his hundredth day, so Jiang Xinyu, along with Du Fengying and Zhang Qiu’e, planned to make longevity peaches for the child. Not the kind meant for the elderly, but to steam a hundred sugar buns the size of infant fists to share with everyone in the village.

”Xiao Jiang, there are more than three hundred people in our village.”

”Then let’s steam four hundred. According to tradition, our Ah Bao has been raised by a hundred families.

I forgot when Shi Xian was born, so we’ll celebrate for Ah Bao.”

”I think since we’re about to get the wheat, we should go to the township to use the electric mill, the flour it produces is really white.”

”Alright, let’s go to the township once we’ve distributed the wheat.”

Jiang Feifei came out from home, and knowing the brothers were gathering wheat ears in the last field, she headed there.

She walked along the edge of the fields and saw everyone working tirelessly; it made her marvel. They were not afraid of hard work or fatigue, as long as they could harvest abundantly, have some surplus grain, and make some money, they would be content.

It was already evening, but the temperature was still very high, yet nobody was slacking off.

Before she reached the field’s edge, Shi Jing and Jianbin came over carrying baskets.

”Feifei, why are you here?”

”Mom came home early today, so I came out for a walk.”

”Feifei, do you want to come with us to deliver the wheat ears? We’ve arranged with Hu Zi to pick some wild vegetables together.”

”Brother, mom doesn’t want you two to go up the mountain.”

”We’re not going up; we’ll just pick some at the edge of the field.”

”Alright then, I’ll join you.”

They finally stopped work at 7 in the evening, and by then it was already dark.

Guodong and Jing Chu, the siblings, were utterly exhausted.

”You two go take a bath, we’ll eat once you’re done.”

Jiang Xinyu felt a pang of heartache seeing the listless Jing Chu. This girl hadn’t even worn a headscarf and was getting sunburned directly. She really didn’t take care of her appearance.

At night, the family sat in the courtyard having dinner. After a day of hard labor, it was so nice to eat something tasty. Guodong had regained some energy, but Jing Chu remained sluggish.

She only ate one meat bun and had half a bowl of porridge.

”Aunt Jiang, I’m going to rest now.”

”Okay, go ahead. I’ll bring you a bowl of milk in a bit.”

Jing Chu nodded and returned to her room.

”Xinyu, I’m heading to Jin Family Village tomorrow. Ding Zhiqing’s daughter is having her full moon celebration. I’m going to visit.”

”Have Sister Du come over early tomorrow to help you look after Ah Bao.”

”I’ll take him with me.”

Jiang Xinyu thought it over. Ah Bao was about to be a hundred days old and was taken out to the courtyard to sunbathe every day now. The couple taking him out shouldn’t be a problem.

Jiang Xinyu brought a bowl of milk to Jing Chu, ”Tired?”

”Yeah, so tired I can’t even sleep.”

”Have some milk and take a good rest.” Right now, they had no choice but to work hard.

”Aunt Jiang, you should rest too. I can take the bowl out myself.”
