NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

”I promise to use my words,” Kane vowed, kissing her forehead.

”I will be the perfect, respectful diplomat. I won’t start any fights, I won’t insult any holy relics, and I will only punch someone if they try to punch me first.”

”Mostly?” Misha raised an eyebrow.

”Mostly,” Kane agreed, refusing to make any ironclad promises.

”Now, lie down and get some sleep. I am going to figure out how to get us some actual food.”

Misha curled up under the furs, already drifting off as Kane’s residual heat surrounded her.

Watching her sleep, Kane felt his easy smile fade into a calculated expression.

He stood over Misha for a long moment after her breathing settled into the deep, even rhythm of true sleep.

The residual heat of his body still clung to the furs around her, and the sight of her small form curled trustingly beneath them stirred something in his chest even as the sharper part of his mind began to turn. He brushed one last light kiss against her temple, then rose without a sound.

Thora and Sira waited just beyond the chamber threshold, both of them upright and alert despite the late hour.

Thora’s dark braids were still tight from the day’s travel; Sira’s pale eyes tracked him the moment he appeared.

Kane stepped close, first to Thora. He cupped the back of her neck and kissed her, slow, deliberate, the kind of claim that needed no words.

When he released her, he turned to Sira and did the same, feeling the slight catch of her breath against his mouth.

”Watch the perimeter,” he said, voice low.

”No one comes near this door without my knowing. Rest in shifts if you must, but stay sharp. I won’t be long.”

Thora inclined her head.

Sira’s fingers brushed the hilt of the knife at her belt in silent acknowledgment.

Kane left them there and walked the cold stone corridors alone.

The Queen’s personal study lay deeper in the keep than the guest wings, past tapestries stiff with age and guards who straightened when the red-haired barbarian passed.

The door was heavy oak banded in iron. He did not knock.

Slovia looked up from the wide desk of dark wood the moment he entered.

Dark hair threaded with silver at the temples was swept back from a face that had never needed softness to command attention.

Her posture was straight, shoulders set with the quiet certainty of someone who had ruled an empire of powerful women long enough that authority no longer needed performance; it had simply become structural.

The eyes that met his were assessing, cool, the same measuring weight Seraphine’s sword had carried during the duel.

Mature in the specific way of powerful women who had spent decades becoming more rather than less.

Presence that made the word mature feel insufficient.

She didn’t rise at once. She simply watched him cross the threshold and close the door behind him.

”You look surprised,” Kane said.

”I am.” Her voice was low, controlled.

”I was told the girl would not survive the journey. That the north would finish what the southern courts began.”

Kane’s mouth curved without humor.

”You traded her with a barbarian.”

”Yes.” Slovia rose then, the movement fluid, unhurried.

”I expected her to die.”

”Too bad she didn’t.”

Something flickered across the queen’s face, calculation, perhaps, or the first crack in an assumption she had lived with for months.

She came around the desk.

The gown she wore was dark red, cut high at the throat yet fitted close enough to make the fullness of her figure impossible to ignore.

Heavy breasts, the weight of a body that had carried power and children and still refused to yield either. The silver at her temples only sharpened the impression.

”She is alive,” Slovia said, almost to herself.

”And you are here. In my study. Uninvited.”

Kane did not move as she approached.

The air between them carried the faint scent of old paper, ink, and something warmer, her skin, her perfume, the quiet heat of a woman who had never learned to apologize for either.

She stopped close enough that the velvet of her skirts brushed the leather of his boots.

Her gaze traveled over the breadth of his shoulders, the red hair still damp from earlier washing, the scars that marked a life lived with steel rather than parchment.

”Did you fuck her with a weak heart?” she asked softly.

”Is that your power? Kindness dressed as strength?”

Kane’s jaw tightened.

”I’m your daughter’s husband.”

Slovia’s mouth curved.

She stepped closer still.

One elegant hand rose, not to his chest, but lower, sliding with deliberate intent across the front of his trousers until her palm rested fully against the shape of him.

She did not squeeze. She simply held, feeling the heat, the size, the involuntary twitch that answered her touch even as his face remained set.

”Husband,” she repeated, tasting the word.

”And yet here you stand, letting a queen put her hand on your cock while your little wife sleeps under my roof.”

Kane caught her wrist.

His grip was firm, not cruel, but absolute. He lifted her hand away and held it between them.

”I’m your daughter’s husband,” he said again, voice lower, rougher.

”That is not a title I take lightly. Nor one I intend to dishonor while she breathes.”

Slovia did not pull free.

She studied his face with those assessing eyes, reading the tension in the line of his mouth, the controlled rise and fall of his chest.

Then she smiled, slow, knowing, the smile of a woman who had watched stronger men than him decide that resistance was only the first step toward yielding.

”You are a barbarian,” she said.

”Red-haired, scarred, built like something the gods forgot to finish civilizing. And you expect me to believe that after months of taking what you wanted from my daughter, after claiming her body and her name, you will now stand in this room and refuse what I offer?”
