NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

Kane’s elite fighters were scattered on the ground.

Thora sat unbuckling her greaves with a sigh, Brak lay flat on his back staring up at the sky, Sira playfully tossed handfuls of torn turf at Kessa, and Griselda perched gracefully on the top wooden railing, preening her black-and-gold wings with a dramatic pout.

Standing squarely in the center of the ring, Kane leaned against his practice sword and laughed at the tangled pile of his most dangerous commanders.

Facing six of them simultaneously had been a gamble, yet his breath came easily, and his posture remained steady, which only made his fallen vanguard groan louder from the lawn.

”You move like a beast, Chief,” Brak complained from the grass, his voice rumbling from deep inside his chest.

”A man your size shouldn’t be able to pivot around a shield wall twice in five minutes.”

”You are just moving slower because you ate three bowls of stew for breakfast, Brak,” Kane laughed, tapping the flat of his wooden blade against his boot.

”Stop blaming my speed on your appetite.”

While Kane remained distracted by the giant’s excuses, a subtle ripple in the air signaled an ambush from the sidelines.

Using her gentle magic to silence her footsteps completely, Misha crept forward with a blunt wooden training dagger gripped in her fingers, hoping to claim the single touch of victory her vanguard had failed to achieve all morning.

Before the practice blade could reach his ribs, Kane caught her wrist effortlessly without even turning around, spinning her into his chest while laughter still shook his shoulders.

”An oracle trying to play assassin?” Kane teased, looking down into her eyes while keeping her wrist trapped securely against his collarbone.

”Sira is bad enough at sneaking, Misha, but you literally smell like herbal tea and roses.”

”I would have had you if the wind hadn’t betrayed me!” Misha protested playfully, refusing to drop the wooden dagger as she leaned her weight into his hold.

”My approach was silent until you turned!”

”You forgot that I bought the heightened perception upgrade last week,” Kane smiled, raising an eyebrow at her attempt.

”Your footsteps were silent, but the scent of chamomile gives your position away from twenty yards out.”

Instead of pulling back or admitting defeat, Misha simply dropped the wooden blade onto the turf, rose onto her tiptoes, and planted a sudden, deep kiss right on his lips in front of the entire ring.

Blinking in surprise as the kiss lasted several seconds longer than expected, Kane felt a smile break across his face when she finally stepped back onto her heels.

”That is definitely cheating,” Kane noted.

”No, it is not,” Misha answered smoothly, smoothing the front of his linen shirt with a look of utter innocence.

”I have a weak heart, Kane, so the body allows me to take shortcuts.”

”So that’s how it is?”

”Yes,” Misha replied, her eyes dancing with victory.

”It causes me severe emotional distress, so I am simply claiming my compensation.”

”Get a room, you two, or let us try round two so I can actually hit him!”

’Even after all the battles and system upgrades, she still knows exactly how to disarm me without swinging a single blade,’ Kane thought, his thumb brushing gently against Misha’s waist as the rest of the team chuckled around them.

’My empire is formidable, but my weaknesses are domestic.’

”We can do round two right now,” Kane offered, turning his head toward Thora with a challenge in his eyes.

”Unless your arms are too tired from swinging that halberd?”

”My arms are fine, Chief!” Thora grunted, pushing herself up from the lawn just as a prolonged, vibrating note shuddered through the stone foundations of the fortress.

It was not the high, piercing wail of an Elven warning chime, nor was it the crisp trumpet of a merchant caravan reaching the checkpoints.

The sound that rolled over the high walls was a deep, guttural roar from a mountain horn, vibrating in their chest cavities with raw, ancient power.

Playfulness vanished from the training ring in a heartbeat.

Thora snatched her halberd from the grass, her playful exhaustion replaced by immediate warrior focus.

Over by the perimeter ropes, Seraphine melted smoothly backward into the shadow of the guard tower without making a sound, while Kessa’s tufted ears twitched sharply toward the southern gatehouse.

”That isn’t an Elven horn,” Thora noted, her jaw tightening as she stepped up to Kane’s right flank and lowered her blade.

”That sounds like the deep-vale warhorns from the northern ridges.”

”Scouts reported movement three days ago, but I thought it was just migrating mountain elk,” Brak rumbled, grabbing his iron tower shields off the turf and hauling himself upright.

”Should I form the wall, Commander?”

”No,” Kane answered, a wide smile returning to his face as he recognized the specific cadence of three short blasts followed by a long, echoing drawl.

”That isn’t a herd of elk. Put your weapons down, everybody. We have guests.”

’Only one tribe in the entire northern ridge blows a horn with that specific rhythm,’ Kane realized, his heart beating a little faster as he sheathed his practice sword.

’He actually came.’

”Who is blowing mountain horns at my gates before midday?” Thora demanded, though she lowered her halberd tip slightly at Kane’s command.

”An old friend who hates knocking,” Kane laughed, gesturing for Misha and his commanders to follow him as he walked out of the training ring and headed straight toward the outer courtyard gates.

By the time they reached the main courtyard, Firlia’s tax collectors had already cleared the cobblestones, standing nervously on the wooden walkways as the iron-reinforced oak gates began to swing inward.

Through the rising dust marched a massive war band of northern barbarians, their boots stomping in unison as they entered the fortress.

Clad in thick mountain fur, hammered iron plates, and dragon-scaled leather, the warriors carried long spears and axes that had seen plenty of real combat.

At the very front of the column strode Rutheus, a towering, scarred barbarian warlord who made even Brak look average in height.

A massive two-handed greatsword rested casually on his broad shoulder, while silver rings gleamed throughout his braided black beard.

Behind him, standard-bearers carried the worn, battle-torn banners of a hundred different mountain camps, fluttering proudly in the southern breeze.
