Chapter 1445: Chapter 1445: Meeting Tan Cheng

Shu Yu lowered her gaze in deep thought. Everyone was dead, yet the Tan Family only traced it back to that kitchen steward?

Who exactly wanted to harm Young Master Tan? And why?

The poison he suffered from was the same as that of the Xiao Family’s. The poison in the Xiao Family came from the Second Prince; so, was it a coincidence that Young Master Tan was poisoned, or did it have something to do with the Second Prince as well?

After thinking it over, Shu Yu decided that when she sent Ah Ning back to the Tan Family tomorrow, she would meet this Young Master Tan. Perhaps it concerned the Second Prince, so she was somewhat concerned.

Ah Ning had already fallen asleep. Shu Yu tucked her in with a thin quilt, then closed her eyes.

Early the next day, Shu Yu led Ah Ning to the Tan Family.

Ah Ning was a familiar face at the Tan Family, and they didn’t need to report their arrival. The gatekeeper recognized Shu Yu and let the sisters in directly.

Old Master Tan was not home. Upon hearing that Shu Yu had come, Mrs. Tan hurried out to greet her.

Perhaps because things were looking up, Mrs. Tan’s spirits were clearly much better than before, even the wrinkles between her eyebrows had smoothed out considerably.

She was delighted to see Shu Yu, “I heard from Ah Ning that Young Master Meng, Village Chief Lu Xiang’s fiancé, has already passed the Scholar exam. My congratulations to you, Village Chief Lu Xiang.”

“Mrs. Tan, you’re too kind. With your son recovering well, I must congratulate you too, Mrs. Tan, that after enduring hardship comes blessings.”

Mrs. Tan laughed happily, “Likewise, likewise.”

As they talked, they slowly made their way to the room where Young Master Tan was staying.

Old Doctor Zhao was there at the time. Every morning, he would come to check Young Master Tan’s pulse and condition, then adjust the medicinal diet accordingly. If there were no major issues, he would leave to attend to his own matters and return in the evening.

At that moment, he was writing a prescription, with Young Master Tan seated opposite him.

The last time they had seen him, Young Master Tan’s cheeks were sunken, he was taking more breaths than he was receiving, and he was in a daze. Forget about getting out of bed and moving around, even opening his eyes was an effort.

Now he was still very thin, yet that lingering aura of death had disappeared.

Mrs. Tan introduced him, “Ah Cheng, this is the Village Chief Lu Xiang that I told you about, Ah Ning’s elder sister.”

Tan Cheng immediately stood up and bowed, “So, this is Village Chief Lu Xiang. Pardon my lack of manners. My mother told me that if it weren’t for Village Chief Lu Xiang’s explanation and assurance that day, my parents would have misunderstood Doctor Zhao, and I would’ve missed this life-saving opportunity. Here, my deepest gratitude to Village Chief Lu Xiang for your help.”

“Young Master Tan, there’s no need for this. The one who saved you was our family’s Elder. Back then, I just wanted to clear his name, that’s all.”

Shu Yu returned the courtesy and naturally sat down to the side.

Tan Cheng was somewhat puzzled. It’s one thing for Village Chief Lu Xiang to come to his courtyard, but now she seemed like she intended to stay longer?

Tan Cheng was a man, Shu Yu was an unmarried woman, and she wasn’t a doctor, so it was odd for her to come to a man’s quarters. He couldn’t quite grasp the situation, so he looked to Mrs. Tan.

The latter quickly said, “Village Chief Lu Xiang has a few things she wants to ask you.”

Tan Cheng understood, “Village Chief Lu Xiang, please ask anything you wish. I will answer whatever I can.”

Shu Yu pursed her lips, “It’s like this. I want to know if Young Master Tan has any suspects in mind for the one who poisoned you.”

Tan Cheng was taken aback.

Shu Yu then explained, “To be honest, yesterday my younger sister was out and encountered a few thugs. Although those thugs were meant for Doctor Xie, I can’t shake the feeling that they might be after my younger sister too.”
