She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

”The affairs of the Dai Family were something we learned about in advance, and then we found someone to slightly guide them, and the matter could be accomplished.”

”Of course, even if some things change, it won’t be a problem for our plan. You’ve probably seen the barrage complaining about the director changing the plot, right?”

”Rong Yu’s appearance was something we didn’t foresee at all, nor did we expect him to be so important to you—important enough to ruin our plan, forcing us to terminate it.” Meng Yan’s gaze was filled with regret, but soon she smiled again, her interest in Ah Chen even stronger, ”But you also gave us a surprise.”

But what that surprise was, Meng Yan did not continue to say.

Qiao Chen is not a fool; if she knew they could hear her thoughts, it would cause trouble for their research.

”Such beautiful eyes, but unfortunately our chip still has defects. In the future, your vision will gradually decline, even become blind, and even if you’re not entirely blind, your eyesight won’t be good.”

”Of course, there’s no need to worry too much now, as this time span is quite long—it’ll take three to five years.”

Seeing Qiao Chen, whose face was devoid of color, Meng Yan stood up contentedly.

”If you behave and cooperate with us in everything, the rest of your days can be somewhat comfortable.”

”But we can’t let you out,” Shen Mulan said. ”Knowing so much, you should understand that you can never get out now. You won’t even be able to have any news; don’t even think about trading wealth for freedom. Not a single bit of information can appear about you. Otherwise, it won’t be friendly to us.”

”If you behave a bit more and don’t cause so much trouble, once our plan succeeds, we’ll let you live well too. Unfortunately...” Shen Muzhi said casually, with an attitude of charity.

”So that’s how it is...” Ah Chen bowed her head, seemingly having given up the struggle.

”If that old Qiao family man hadn’t made so many arrangements and you were willing to hand over the assets, maybe you could live more comfortably. But because of his arrangements, if you have any more news, we won’t get a single penny of the Qiao Family’s assets, and may even bring trouble upon ourselves.” Shen Zhenxiong said, somewhat angrily.

Old Sir Qiao’s arrangements were cunning, yet they made many retreat, afraid to take risks lightly, lest they bring trouble upon themselves without gaining anything.

Under normal circumstances, Qiao Chen should have lived well.

Only he couldn’t foresee that the Shen Family had a secret project continually underway.

”So, am I your first test subject?” Ah Chen asked, raising her head again.

”Of course not.”

”But you are the first uninformed test subject.” Meng Yan spoke, her tone somewhat proud, ”But your personality deviates greatly from what we anticipated, causing an unexpected event.”

”With such a powerful thing, you aren’t planning to steal state secrets, are you?” Ah Chen instinctively asked.

Meng Yan laughed and shook her head slightly: ”We wouldn’t dare take risks now. You are merely a Qiao Family heir and don’t undergo various tests usually. Hospital examination instruments can’t detect our chip, but those places with important secrets may not be the same.”

”But on a future day, it might actually be possible.” There was a gleam of excitement in Meng Yan’s eyes, as if she already envisioned that day.

”Although it’s currently impossible to steal crucial secrets, by drawing more people into this technology, over time, more and more people will participate, making everything easier.” Meng Yan asked with interest, ”Can you guess what I’m saying?”

Ah Chen looked at her with a steady gaze: ”Is it exams?”

”Hahaha, Qiao Chen, you really are smart. If I didn’t understand your temperament a bit, I’d truly want to recruit you, but I’m just not willing to take that risk with someone so hard to control.” Meng Yan said regretfully, ”Yes, our chip has already helped many people achieve good results in exams. Nowadays some are in good positions, some in prestigious universities, and every year we just need to select some suitable individuals. As the years pass, do you think, won’t more and more people in this country be ours? Although losing sight in one eye, gaining so much advantage, many people are still very willing.”

As Meng Yan said this, the Shen Family members had a slightly crazed look on their faces.

Most questions had been asked. Although the ambition of the Shen Family and Meng Yan was expected, and there was some understanding of what they were doing, hearing them confess firsthand still made Ah Chen ponder about the Commissioner’s lifetime and what their ultimate fate might be.

If things really turn out the way they thought, and if nobody stops them in time, there might be great chaos one day in the future.

”Are you wondering why with this technology, we don’t directly steal trade secrets to strengthen the Shen Family?” Shen Muzhi suddenly asked.

Ah Chen paused; she hadn’t indeed.

This wasn’t something obvious?

If the Shen Family stole business secrets from various companies, no one is foolish; it’s easy to detect unless it’s from a small enterprise with no background. Otherwise, even if it’s stolen, once the number is too high and draws attention, offending people they shouldn’t, only breeds enemies.

Really, there’s no necessity for that.

Getting noticed too early would be detrimental to their research.

Besides, even if trade secrets are acquired, it doesn’t necessarily lead to great profit.

Perhaps they had stolen before, but among thousands of enterprises, what they stole was not enough to draw attention.

As for targeting Qiao’s assets, it’s because the Commissioner was an orphan girl. They probably felt she was a perfect test subject.

Seeing Ah Chen silent, Shen Muzhi thought he had hit the mark.

”Aren’t the Shen Family and the Qiao Family lifelong friends?” Ah Chen asked again.

Shen Zhenxiong sneered coldly: ”What if we are lifelong friends? Different paths, different goals. Since there’s no one left from your Qiao Family, it would be better for everything to be inherited by my Shen Family. You’re an orphan girl; even with that old man’s arrangements, can you really meet a good end? If that old thing really trusted us, why not entrust everything to us?”

If that had been the case, it would have been easier for them to acquire the Qiao Family’s assets.

Actually, what Shen Zhenxiong coveted most were the Qiao Family’s overseas foundations.

Ah Chen didn’t particularly care about the relationships between the two families. The fact that the Commissioner’s grandfather didn’t entrust the Shen Family with care showed the old man had good judgment–thinking that once he passed, the Shen Family likely couldn’t be relied upon.

Of course, over the years, the Shen Family hadn’t done anything openly, being even friendly.

Old Sir Qiao simply didn’t trust them, so he made arrangements himself, never imagining that after he passed away, the Shen Family would turn his granddaughter into a test subject.

”You care about Rong Yu a lot, don’t you?” Shen Muyang suddenly asked.

Ah Chen raised her head: ”What are you planning to do?”
